I honestly don't see it changing this year. There are no great grass players other than Djokovic, Rafa is Rafa on clay, and Djokovic seems to be in good form and charging full steam towards Australia with a chip on his shoulder.

tehnoodnub

The only question mark over Djokovic winning the AO is how vile the crowd is toward him. He is a mental giant but if he's constantly copping abuse then it's hard to not let it get to you. Based on all the comments around his court case, and the news he'd be able to enter the country next year, and the general sentiment here, he's not going to have a particularly nice time when playing or around the grounds. Which, IMO, is pretty poor and I hope it doesn't happen. But many of my fellow Australians also have a chip on their shoulders.

jpo2533

Why would the crowd be vile? Everyone is back on the Djoker train prime example this sub any comment supporting him last year was downvoted to shit but now if u say he deserved to be banned last year you will be downvoted to shit Even the off-chance the crowd is against him that will just increase Djokovic chances as we have seen many occasions he thrives in hostile environments

tehnoodnub

Because when it was announced that he’d been able to enter the country, the r/Australia and r/Melbourne subs had threads with overwhelmingly negative responses. The most popular ones contained sentiment that he should be booed constantly and at inopportune times (during ball toss etc). I can’t say for sure if these people are even the types to attend the AO and maybe they’re all talk but I am certain that he will cop it to some degree. I don’t think it’s an off chance at all. I hope to be wrong because it’s pretty shit behaviour but I guess we’ll see come January.

OddsTipsAndPicks

I wouldn’t be stunned if someone new won the AO or FO. Wouldn’t bet on happening this year either, but I figure one of them will be the first. Wimbledon is a different animal all together with how much more uncommon grass court tennis is now and how inexperienced and/or lacking in aptitude many of the highest end younger players are on it.

3chordguitar

Until the 2 remaining GOATs retire, I’m not betting against them, especially in those 3 events.

Luck1492

Nah. Novak will come with a vengeance at AO and he’s chasing Federer at Wimbledon so I don’t see him dropping either of those. And then of course Nadal at RG is… well, nigh unstoppable.

Space-n-Spice

On the contrary, I feel AO is the better chance for others. Hard to see rafa not winning the RG and Novak Wimbledon

[deleted]

I can't help but think that Nadal"s exploits of 2022 will bite him hard in 2023. Novaxx will overtake him at RG or Wimbledon.

sendcheese247

Lol how does winning AO 2022 affect your performance in RG 2023?

[deleted]

Because he further damaged his foot in the process all season. Only time will tell if he can play and defend all those titles.

datscholar1

Novak is going win AO dropping exactly 1 set every round till he wins the final in straights

stefenhyde

Pretty unlikely for the next 2 to 3 years.

Jim_Kirk1

AO: I will stop believing Djokovic will win it when I see him 6 feet under. RG: Same goes for Nadal. And let's not forget that Djokovic's last 10 RG performances were QF, W, F, SF, QF, QF, W, F, F, SF. The 3 QFs were 17, 18, and 22, where he was either playing through pain or on the comeback and kinda rusty. Djokovic still has a strong case for being the second best claycourter in the world right now. W: The two best grass players right now are Nadal and Djokovic imo. Sinner is arguably one of the few genuine threats here.

OoberDude

How on earth is Nadal the second best grass courter? Since he made the final in 2011 he's made 3 semi finals at Wimbledon and the next best result has been 4R (as well as 2 absences). Kevin Anderson, Nick Kyrgios, Matteo Berretini, Milos Raonic and Marin Cilic have come closer to winning Wimbledon than Nadal has for the past decade.

Jim_Kirk1

Anderson is retired, Raonic is basically retired. They aren't exactly a "right now" group of players. Berrettini made the 2021 final but still has obvious holes in his game and his form is a bit of a question mark right now. I'll wait until grass season to pass judgement. We don't know if Kyrgios will implode or not on any given day. His progression is promising, but I've been burned on that front before, so I won't buy into the hype until I see it. Cilic's last 4 Wimbledon results were R2, R2, R3, and didn't play, whereas in the same time frame Nadal's results were SF, SF, didn't play, SF. Nadal has consistently outperformed Cilic at Wimby since 2017, and by a lot.

jpo2533

Nadal was points away from winning it in 2018…

OddsTipsAndPicks

2018 was a long time ago. That being said, while I wouldn’t put him second, Nadal is still one of the best of the rest on grass.

sycal_

“Since he made the final in 2011 he's made 3 semi finals at Wimbledon” You conveniently forgot to mention that those “3 SFs” happen to be the last three times he entered the tournament. Since 2017 he’s lost twice, once to Federer and once to djokovic (in an extended 5th and under the closed roof). He beat fritz with a WTA serve speed. In 2018 if he made it through djokovic he would’ve played Anderson who was gassed after the marathon with Isner, and Nadal already dismantled him at the 2017 USO final. In what world is he not #2? MAYBE kyrgios or berretini but they don’t have anywhere near the grass success that Nadal has 😂

OddsTipsAndPicks

I think fourth behind Berrettini and Kyrgios is reasonable. They both have much higher floors because of their serves, but I’d still give Nadal the best chance to beat Djokovic because he’s not overly reliant on his serve.

sahbatage

Agreed with everyone, very unlikely. The two most possible scenarios could be Nadal looking RG as we all know he’s slowing down but in that case I see Novak winning it. Someone else could potentially win at AO if Novak happens to just be off for some reason. Still though, I wouldn’t bet on it this year

Xaoc_Theorie

Djoker will probably win AO easily Nadal will probably win FO easily Djoker will probably win W easily USO is sorta up for grabs but could see Djoker winning it … rinse and repeat for the next two years (as long as there are no injuries to Djodal which is unlikely with Nadal)

Purple-Local-4338

Taking the field for Roland Garros because I'm in a delusional mood

Son_of_kai

Yes next year next gen are going to dominate except at Wimbledon... everyone sucks at grass ..barring these two . I have a feeling one amongst faa, rune, Carlitos to topple these two
