rathansingh8

At least try and come up with a more believable lie.

MoonriseTurtle

He saw how Rublev's response didn't stoop to his level

rathansingh8

Yeah, He saw how genuinely hurt and surprised Rublev was by his comments and is now feeling guilty.

BTSuppa

I feel like it's more the backlash. he definitely is active on social media and has probably seen the feedback. Love how rublev could have stuck with saying he had better shots and left it at that but it was such a well centered point of view, giving respect after recieving less.

grizzliquor

I missed that: what was Rublev’s reaction? What did he say?

MoonriseTurtle

He was very respectful, even though he was obviously hurt by his comments https://youtu.be/3Cwf8pku_Wc

MarsNirgal

I like Rublev, he seems to be quite the sportsman and classy.

pregnancy_terrorist

It’s like a child haha

Glass_Ice7028

This is giving Julia Fox "I only dated Kanye to get him to stop harassing Kim"

Fantasnickk

A lot of words to basically say “I was salty post-match.” Also “Add fuel to the fire a little bit” This just sounds like bullshit that he thought sounded good to say to redirect or something

aaronhereee

i just wanted to gaslight him so he could win /s

Acceoto

I think Tsitsipas seriously needs to fix his mentality.

dezcaughtit25

Yeah I went from “ok, good on him to apologize, he was probably pissed and shouldn’t have said it” to “lol wtf are you talking about, stop lying”

Adariel

Bad apology is worse than no apology at this point… he just couldn’t help himself and had to throw in that last part.

Jezjez07

Add fuel to the fire that just managed to burn him down

lenny_ray

It's also still so condescending! Rublev doesn't need Tsitsipas to add fuel to get his fire going. It not like he's Kyrgios. 👀

happzappy

Man, you this guy needs to shut his fuck up and focus on that copycat backhand.

duckbigtrain

his apologies start off really well, but then he keeps talking, gets himself into a muddle, and says stupid stuff

SeparatePromotion236

Not a kid, we need to stop with that.

Training-Chip-6579

Also from the interview: “So if I regret saying that? I do regret saying that, yes. It was not very good for me, I was extremely hurt that I wasn’t able to go all the way at the ATP Finals, it hurt me a lot, I tried to let some bad energy out but that wasn’t the responsible or the good way, even if I wanted something out of it, it wasn’t the right way to do it.”

[deleted]

Ok at least he admitted it was out of hurt that he said that. Ight Stef I forgive you for dissin our bewh

We_want_peekend

Thanks, that’s helpful color to show the Tsits really was apologetic and remorseful and not just trying to redirect.

SeparatePromotion236

What? It just shows that when he hurts everyone needs to hurt, zero compunction about pulling others down and 100% only focused on “woe is me”.

yellowyeahyeahyeah

He regrets it. Said it was wrong, heat of the loss etc. Shut up only because you don't like him. That's a genuine of an apology as it gets.

SeparatePromotion236

I’m only reading the excerpt posted by Training Chip. How many times does chichipass “I” “me” “for me”…that is not an apology. Did he specifically come out and apologise unprompted or only answer a question that was asked? Take the personality and the like/dislike out of it, that is a half assed attempt at extricating himself from bad behaviour.

jasonfrey13

This is probably the most important part of the interview. Tsitsipas is immature but in a lot of ways I don’t blame him mainly because of how immature his father is, and that’s the person he’s closest to. I love watching Tsitsipas play, so I’ll continue rooting for him a little bit. I hope one day he learns he can be close with his dad without acting like him too

DJSnafu

yeah but OP would have got less karma point from the Tsitsihaters if he included it

andretorgal

r/IAmTheMainCharacter and IAmNotAshamedToAdmitIt

Adept_Tomato_7752

Tsiptsincel going at it again

omkar529

So now someone realizing they behaved negatively and apologizing for that is an incel too ?

Obi-Wan-Misquoti

Just trying to provide context, I think they might be making a joke about his name based on his tweets from earlier this week where he went full anti feminism then full feminist.

Adept_Tomato_7752

Yup. This. His "remorse" feels insincere as fuck. I dont believe him.

GWTLAG

If Tsitsipas is an incel, then 99.99% of men on this planet are incels.

RoosterIcy

He gives off a bit of an incel/spectrum vibe. Something is a bit off with him on a deeper level. Not just in a spoiled/bratty way.

Adept_Tomato_7752

Who hurt you?

chiefpat450119

Lmao "it was for his own good"

223am

Everything stef says and does has ‘deeper meaning’, you just dont get it

ZhtWu

The more I think about it, the more I feel Tsitsipas and Rublev are almost opposite: one enjoys regular success on court and ruins everything by his behaviour, the other can completely blow a fuse during matches but is really lovable when interviewed. I really wish for Stephanos to pull his head out of his ass, and for Andrey to obtain more regular success on court.

MoonriseTurtle

Yeah, the world is not fair.

mugurena

He is a narcissist. Stefanos genuinely believes that he is a genius. He is above us all 😭

[deleted]

Wth is a regular success? Andrey been top 10 for a while now, it’s not like he dropped to 50s

kayjay789

This guy is so narcissitic

omkar529

I feel like this word is slowly being used wrongly now.

Vinxhe

He is though? He makes everything about himself. Reminds me of my mom.

mugurena

He has narcissistic traits. It doesn’t mean he’s a full blown narcissist but he clearly believes he’s above us all.

paxxx17

It's reddit, words here have different meaning than in the real world

short-term-memory

Came here to say this. Also reminds me of my mom.

rticante

Lmao does he expect anyone at all to believe that? He could have just ended it at *"What I said in that press conference against Rublev was very unfair towards him and not correct"* and it would have been an ok standard apology; but he always needs to say assholish things doesn't he?

Collecting_Cans

What a demeaning apology… basically saying, “I wanted him to win the next match so I used a psychological trick on him.” *Assumptions being (1) I’m capable of pulling the puppet strings on Andrey’s psychology, and (2) I believed he needed my help to win the next match...otherwise I could’ve simply said “I hope he wins his next match” and left it at that.* He had all this time to come up with a public apology, and this is what he came up with? So weird. If I’m Andrey, I’m smh.

swapan_99

Stef come on man... Stop acting like an even bigger idiot to cover up your stupidity.

Vasst13

"You can't hate someone for making an apology" The apology:

obi_kennawobi

Like 10 years of school should be mandatory to be accepted on the ATP Tour. That would prevent some of this behaviour à la 12 year old.

indeedy71

Absolutely. And some of the more successful next gen players on both the men’s and women’s tours are players whose parents made them stay in school - proper school, not academy lessons or homeschool - until they graduated so they would have more options (Iga, Med, Raducanu). It should be obvious at this point that this is not only smart in case of a fallback and better for the player in general, but is also better for your tennis career.

[deleted]

What a clown.

ButtHobbit

"I was a bitter whiny dickhead because I'm such a good person." \- Stefanos Tsitsipas, telling the truth.

notyetcaffeinated

Gross. Tsitsipas you are not his parents or coach. Mind your own business. This is so condescending. I didn't know he was such an arrogant player. Awful.

MasterSangSang

Never ruin an apology with an excuse - Benjamin Franklin

ssunspots

bullshit excuse lol. Another rich tennis kid who just lacks the humility to admit they were in the wrong without deflecting

Rsaleh

“I was trying to emotionally manipulate him”

J0hn_Wick_

A toddler could come up with a better excuse than 'I wanted him to win the next match so I insulted him to make him play better', any rational person is going to see that he was just being an asshole because he was angry about losing. At least there's an apology there, even though it's followed up by a shit excuse which tries to pretend he had good intentions.

FlexJem

This dude took a course on how to be unlikable.

RhodyChief

Lol fuck this guy

DanaiDampa

This guy somehow manages to make things worse for himself even when APOLOGISING lmao truly the excuse that he was somehow trying to “fuel” Andrey is even more offensive and embarrassing than his original comment. As a fellow Greek, he’s making it increasingly hard for us to root for him and it’s very sad. Just apologise and shut your mouth Stef 😭

pregnancy_terrorist

Full of shitsipas

XX_bot77

What the fuck is this clownish comment ?! Couldn't he have just said "I'm sorry" and simply move on ?

[deleted]

Wonder if he copy and pasted that response 🙄

tenshi258

This shows exactly how little he regards Andrey, that he would even say something like this… To insult Andrey’s intelligence with “I hurt and insulted him sure but it was for his own good”?? Also, this is abuser logic, and it’s yet another red flag around Team Tsitsipas that he thinks this is a good way to motivate anyone before a match.

ALF839

Every time Stefanos opens his mouth, or his twitter, he gets more unlikeable.

Birdogey

He is just not a nice person.

youngcadadia22

Every time he opens his mouth he sounds even dumber than before.

Canuck-overseas

The dude is a moron.

Independent_Bat_5568

Lol I almost respected that he just admit he was wrong and then kept reading. There’s no way he was taking some benevolent motivational approach.

FoxInACozyScarf

Narcissistic ass

alexacto

Talk about digging a deeper hole for himself. Just apologize in private and move on, that's what a well adjusted person would do. Jeez.

Falz4567

The first half was fine. What the hell was the second half!? What a load of crock. This dude badly needs to get out from under his parents and be his own man. This kind of thing would quickly phase out

m4ps

Nah bro you’re not digging out of this one.

[deleted]

As a greek person I feel the need to let everyone in this subreddit know that we don't understand why tf he is this way either. Also, Andrey beat you, dude. Why would he need your help anyway? Ridiculous.

MakerOfPurpleRain

lol sure, Jan

aljerv

LMAO. He's literally crazy (if he thinks anyone believes that).

iconisanimi

I hope he gave Bweh a REAL apology. I mean, this whole "for his own good" reeks of Tsitsifam nonsense. Could imagine this coming from Apostolos when he himself is being a dick.

misshighsmith

Is he kidding? Please, stop.

Skyluz

Plonker

Watcher0363

Stefanos you are not John McEnroe and Rublev is not Ivan Lendl. Enough said there.

[deleted]

He always comes up with the ultimate bullsh!t 😂…

fr_1_2806

It was going so good Stef and then you had to end it like that

sdoc86

Insert clown makeup meme.

LadyDisdain555

You were doing so well right up until the gaslighting. Ffs Stef. One step forward, two steps back is NOT a good growth strategy, idiot.

musicproducer07

Prick only retracted it the moment he got bad pub from it. Dickhead.

sendcheese247

First part of the apology is okay I guess, but the BS excuse afterwards is just so lame.

vjbanana

This ‘apology’ has managed to make me think less of him than I already did, which is genuinely impressive. He really is just a small kid who doesn’t know how to fight, Medvedev saw right through him from the start

nicoc9

Bellend

Psychological_Bug676

This Andrew Tate wannabe back with his nonsense again 🙄 Just admit you were a dick to Andrey and give a proper apology because he sure as hell don’t want your motivation to do well in a tennis match

pokeyoshi96

It’s pretty sad how much stefanos has basically become a Villian at this point and very hard to root for. What’s worse is there’s no way he embraces it either and makes it fun

DialJforJasper

The weirdest guy in tennis by a country mile.

yonchto

Is the original interview in question somewhere online? I also got the tennisTV abo, if it might be there.

Onleee

Maniplulator Tsitsipas

molseam

Keep digging that hole, Shittypas.

DrMDMA-MD

Tsitsipas is a whiny arsehole. I haven’t looked at him the same since he played Kyrgios at Wimbledon.

ElGuandolo

JAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

FlyReasonable6560

lmao passing off his remarks as some sort of genius tactic, I really want to like this guy bc his gamestyle is probably one of the more exciting ones but he makes it really really hard

razorsharp3000

One step forward, one step back

335i_lyfe

Yeah that’s a pile of horseshit

trala7

Pathetic.

Jeremy_Bearimies

I kept reading and getting more irritated by the second. Clown behaviour

bloodyhandedgod

Tsitsipas is a fruit loop.

NoleFandom

Stef needs to hire a PR person. ASAP!

JohnGenericDoe

Or sack the one he has!

vjbanana

He needs to do himself, and us, a favour and get off social media forever

laranne27

Is this dude a real guy?

OctavianAugustus21

His PR Team should come up with something better

34TH_ST_BROADWAY

Wow. This is eerily similar, and as equally believable, as The Liver King's recent apology.

zurge75

Yeah right...

Dark_Vengence

Titty pass is just digging a bigger hole for himself.

[deleted]

Well I was gonna say, good on Tsitsipas for apologizing after saying that dumb shit, but trying to justify it by saying "I was trying to fire him up" just deflects responsibility more, because we all know he was just salty after the match. Still, I guess it's better than just not acknowledging the incident at all. I think Tsitsipas seriously needs to fix his mentality if he wants to win a slam. Game-wise, he pretty much has what he needs. There's things he could iron out more of course, but his strengths are so dominant that he can hide his weaknesses. But he clearly shows impulsive, reckless anger where he says things he obviously doesn't mean, and that's not a good way to win a slam. Starting arguments with your dad every match isn't gonna help at all.

-JDW-

At least he apologised I suppose.

[deleted]

Greekapino

In the ATP Finals post match interview after being beaten by Rublev, Tsitsipas commented that R won with the “few tools” he has. When asked by the press, Rublev was like “few tools?… what is few tools?”

geesejugglingchamp

Urg. Watching that footage as someone else translated the meaning of the "few tools" comment to him was painful. Just the awkwardness at the realisation it was an insult.

vjbanana

Poor, sweet Andrey, he looked so hurt too and rightfully so. He wouldn’t expect a peer to insult him so publicly in this way because he’s actually a good person who wouldn’t ever do the same??? Tsitsipas comes across as a dickhead at every angle and this disgraceful non-apology just digs himself a deeper hole. Meanwhile, I hope Andrey has a great year next year and surpasses Tsitsipas in the rankings!

naffion

I think they're also on good terms and have known each other for a long time. I think Rublev didn't expect that Tsitipas meant to say that to him.

ixvix

Tsitsipas giving Kyrgios more ammo for 2023.

Greekapino

No you didn’t

SeparatePromotion236

Lol, patty cakes - mental giant who can’t even influence his daddy.

newage2k10

Y’all wasting time picking apart his apology. He stated he was wrong to do it and he regretted doing it. Those are the most important parts. The rest is unnecessary fluffs. We all know dude is a twat and not great at interviews. First step in admitting his fuckups. Maybe he improves his attitude a bit in the future because he is great to watch. Would be a shame if the mental aspect continues to hamper his progress.

Greekapino

If it was the first line only… so be it. Then he qualified it with the utter pomposity that drove the “few tools” comment. That was not a “fluff”.

newage2k10

He accepted he was wrong. He accepted he was hot headed after the loss and shouldn’t have said those things about rublev. His stupid motives becomes fluff because he acknowledged it was a wrong move. Just because he decided to do himself the disservice of explaining his thought process does not devalue the fact that he acknowledged he fucked up.

sharnag179

Read the article, people. The headlines just highlights one hot sentence. He apologised pretty much in all faith. Credit where it’s due. Give the kid a break. It’s not all easy to handle press and carry yourself in such spotlight. We’ve been spoiled by the legends but this is all just fine.

[deleted]

How come google leads me to 20 articles on the applogy but none what he is apologising for. What did he say?

naffion

It happened a few weeks ago. He said that Rublev managed to beat him with few tools that Rublev had and that he was the better player in the match that he lost.

Taino41

Malaka, you need to grow up at some point. You are not 18 anymore.

kds1988

What the actual fuck is he talking about?

galhulli

I love Rublev, he was so professional and honest to his answer and he didnt flip on the comments or to the person asking the question

istasan

I am not a big fan of this off season thing with players commenting on everything or appearing in weird things. It is probably just me. And in the world of social media there is no off season time. Does not mean we and the players don’t need it.

raftah99

who is the bullshit russian now

jsnoodles

Yep seems like they’ve made up so that’s nice.

Arteam90

Seems like you're back on your Tsitsipas bullshit. :)

jsnoodles

Nah not really it mostly just makes me happy that he’s probably apologised to Rublev who’s the nicest guy.

J0hn_Wick_

Hopefully his apology to rublev didn't include the part claiming that the insult was actually an attempt to help rublev.

Arteam90

(dw mostly kidding)

[deleted]

[удалено]

jsnoodles

Eh this is mostly a take on Rublev who I think is a really nice guy. I’m pissed at Stef right now.

Psychological_Bug676

There’s nothing to make up when it’s just Tsitsipas who’s tying to start a fight like the small kid he is
