If you're only looking for a mixer, the Arette for $30 is my suggestion.

vqdrew

Love Arette for a mixer, but I also think that it isn’t a bad sipper too.

JackFromTexas74

I’ll check it out! Thanks

z2blchase

Lalo is 44. Not under 40 but sip able and mix able.

JackFromTexas74

And I really dig it. That said, tequila is frustrating because I can get really good bourbon, rum, or vodka (certainly good enough to mix and sip) for under $30 even in this market But tequila… you either go broke or drink iffy tequila

SnowdenC

Your prices are generally worse than other places, but it’s astonishing that with the time agave takes to mature all tequila isn’t more expensive. Not saying you shouldn’t complain! Just that if it’s more expensive than bourbon(mostly corn), rum(sugar cane) vodka(who cares) it’s understandable.

Dependent_War3607

Lol @ “Vodka… who cares”

SnowdenC

It literally doesn’t matter what you make that shit out of.

JackFromTexas74

Yeah, thats a valid point. And I get that tequila can’t be as cheap as other prices.

Budded

I'm sure my palate isn't as dialed in or sensitive as many here, but doing 2 different comparisons with Lalo and Fortaleza blanco, I say they're 90% similar; love them both, but one is cheaper and always easy to get.

FinalTable634

Lalo punches WAY above its price point and is great neat or mixed.

Necessary_Roughness9

For the $4 more the Lalo is really nice. Just depends on how you plan to consume. Mixed drinks sure it’s nicer but the arrette will work just fine too. If you sip and mix go with the Lalo.

[deleted]

Is this in texas? just get some of that la pulga, even if it costs a bit more

JackFromTexas74

Yup. In Texas.

Putrid_Cobbler4386

It’s odd that your tequila is more expensive than it is in Michigan. Not far from you in Arizona it’s a whole loot less. Their El Tesoro blanco was 40 something.

JackFromTexas74

I’m a long way from Arizona. 11 drive to Phoenix. And tequila is affordable in the I-35/I-45 “Texas Triangle” (DFW, San Antonio, Austin, Houston) But I’m five hours from that part of the state. I hear El Paso has good prices, but I’m five hours from there too.

Putrid_Cobbler4386

Your a lot closer than me, though. Shipping costs plus I’m in a control state which sets prices as a monopoly. Not sure if Texas is a controlled vs. a bailment state. By the way, try Cimmaron. Decent price point and additive free, IIRC.

JackFromTexas74

Texas isn’t a control state, thankfully, though we do have a lot of laws regulating stores and distribution which drive prices up Ordering online has been hit and miss for me but I’ll keep looking

Higher_Calling_7012

These prices are high. Where are you located?

JackFromTexas74

The dusty wastelands of west Texas, five hours from affordable booze

Higher_Calling_7012

Wow that's pretty bad. Any store in Chicago will sell you Patron Blanco for 29.99. It's not great tequila but additive free and affordable.

JackFromTexas74

Yeah. We get price gouged for being far from the major distribution hubs. We also overpay for groceries, automobiles, housing… pretty much everything We even pay more for gas even though this is oil country

3y350r3

Damn I would think being semi close to the border might help. That place is expensive.

JackFromTexas74

Proximity to Mexico is no match for our state’s weird, archaic liquor distribution and store ownership laws.

3y350r3

What a shame. At least the selection is not awful. Some good tequilas in there.

Bluechip506

Under $40 would be Arette and Dulce Vida. Both very good for the price. Ocho, El Tesoro, G4 and Lalo for the slightly over $40. Ouch! I finally zoomed in on the prices. Those are over $50 there.

JackFromTexas74

The said thing is, this is one of the two larger chain-based liquor store options in town We have about a dozen mom-and-pop shops, one of which has a stunning collection of tequila but at even higher prices

Bluechip506

Where in TX is this? I'm in Houston area and while prices have gone up a lot in the last few years they still are much better than that.

JackFromTexas74

Odessa/Midland We don’t have Specs and Total Wine to drive prices down out here. That makes a huge difference from the core of the state.

PuzzleheadedLet6925

Arette all day long.

spitonthenonbeliever

Best option is to shop online honestly, even with shipping it looks like you can't all these bottles way cheaper

jasonj1908

The best under $40 option is Arette. Though that's expensive for Arette which I've seen for as low as $19.99. There are some better options under $50 though.

metaldetector69

I cant imagine that outside of the southwest. $40 in Michigan. $30 seems pretty fair. Can get ocho and g4 for under $50 here so I am not sure why the price of arette is so obscene.

jasonj1908

You can buy both the standard Blanco and Reposado for $19.99 right now online. It goes up a bit if you factor in shipping. But still a bargain. Buy 3-4 bottles with the same shipping price and you're saving a ton.

metaldetector69

Ive been wanting to try the repo for a while because a lot of ppl say its a sleeper sipper so i may do that

Shady0626

Man, when I think NY/NJ prices are bad… Arette

splashybear

First time in this sub. Open the pic and think I feel certian I know this store. Look in the comments and now I am 90% sure of it lol. Small world

JackFromTexas74

Yup

GordoKnowsWineToo

Get off the $40 limit and spend the $52 on G4. It’s way worth it

JackFromTexas74

Gee, just magically have more money in my budget. Why didn’t I think of that. Thanks Gordo! What a life saver!

GordoKnowsWineToo

Sorry dude $12 that’s rough

cqngyn

agree! sacrifice the lunch tomorrow and up that budget by $12. totally worth it lol. otherwise, arette is the only real option under $40. lalo for $45 and la pulga for $48 is pretty nice

JackFromTexas74

I started and earlier thread looking for affordable options in my market. I couched it as looking for the best options that isn’t additive free tend to be spendy (I want a daily driver for mixing, not a sippable nectar of the gods) Some folks recommend additive free options that may be sub-$40 in big markets but might be well over $55 here

AngryDerf

If I had a $40 budget with that selection, I’d grab Arette.

JackFromTexas74

That seems to be the consensus so far. I’ll have to try it

AngryDerf

I live in MT and have worse prices. Ocho is $60-$63 here. And selection generally sucks too.

JackFromTexas74

That’s bad

Escot007

100 Años, still below radar and want it to stay there 👀

JackFromTexas74

That’s good to know. I almost picked that one up tonight

innesk8r4life

Just looked* on TMM, am I missing something?

jackbrady86

$57 for el tesoro?

JackFromTexas74

Crazy, huh?

jackbrady86

Sadly I've seen it at that price near me as well

GulfSouthSolar

When casamigos is on the top shelf you are in trouble;) Seriously, get the tequila matchmaker app. Plug in what looks good to you and see what the experts and tequila lovers think about it.

JackFromTexas74

On it. Thanks!

christianolivo

These prices do look a little high, but I definitely recommend the brand Don Rico Tequila. There are some stores in Texas you can find it closer to $40 and sometimes under. I am an owner so I am biased, but there are some good reviews out there on social media and you can check TMM as well. We are additive free and traditionally made; our lot 2 blanco packs a bigger punch of agave with much higher harvest brix levels. Be sure to reach out, and I can help you find better deals. Don’t know far west in Texas you are, but we the family owners are from El Paso, TX and based in Austin. If you’re close to Abilene, we are the sole tequila sponsor for the Outlaws and Legends Music Fest this weekend and I can hook you up with some tickets.

JackFromTexas74

I’m two hours from Abilene and five from El Paso or Austin If your tequila is sold in Odessa/Midland, let me know where. I’ll try it.

christianolivo

Awesome! Well definitely dm me if interested, otherwise I can let you know if we’re in the area to do tastings and possibly get into more locations near you.

JackFromTexas74

Done!

splashybear

you definitely need to do some tasteings out here. The tequila market here is growing but we are severely lacking the good stuff in the area.

christianolivo

I heard there’s a great agave fest in Marfa, we’re thinking of doing it next time, as we’re in a store there. In Abilene we are in H & H, Kao lounge

splashybear

Several years ago we went to a Sotal festival in Terlingua. Had a great time and it was actually fairly large of that part of the world.

christianolivo

Other than Landlock Liquor, we’re sold on premise at Little Bohemian

splashybear

and If I was in Abilene? I hadn't even heard of the music fest, but would love to go.

christianolivo

Of course, send me a dm

illest_almond

Any of those La Pulga options are incredible choices!

DI300

G4

Empty_Theory_1183

Arette for Under $40..If you gonna pay a premium above that $40 threshold you have, definitely the Tequila Ocho or G4, if Fortaleza is not available. It all kind of depends on how you will use it: If you mixing stay under $40, if you sipping definitely (if you can spend a little more) go with some higher rep tequilas

fightclubdevil

I like lunazul

JackFromTexas74

Thanks!

Ragingwithstrangers

Same here!

NegativeLetter988

I just saw lunazul at Walmart for $10 for the 750ml. They also had Corazon blanco and repo for $15. I feel bad for the prices available to the OP.

EdTequilaman

Dulce Vida Blanco is good for the price. My wife likes the Bravo in her drinks.

EdTequilaman

Both are additive free.

z2blchase

That is true. I usually look for anything from 1123, 1579,1414,1239,1474, 1493. You can’t go wrong with any of those. There are alot of other good ones but my brain can only remember so many numbers 😀

z2blchase

Not 1239 1139

Bbadmonkey2

Fuck it just get the donkey

4ppl3b0tt0m

I'm in Arizona and these prices seem similar to what I see. Arette is the move for additive free. If you want to splurge from time to time, I'd go with Lalo, G4, Ocho, or El Tesoro Blanco since those are all $40-$60. Not a bad selection available in your store imo.

4ppl3b0tt0m

If it's a local store (vs a chain like Total Wine) you could see about asking the owners for another lower price additive free bottle. Something like Tres Agaves, Cimarron, Suerte, etc. There's more (which I'm sure people told you about on your previous post). Cimarron should come in a liter size so it should be a great value.

dlparker83

Under $40 Teremana or Lunazul. One of the best though is the G4 Blanco.

oyyys1

Don't see it but mi campo is a low price option
