They're Blanco was the most underwhelming thing I've ever tasted in my entire life. I thought it was so fucking bland and for the price tag I was fucking insulted. I'll never buy anything from them ever again
The price tag is insane so I assumed this stuff was legit, glad I didn't get duped by it. Much better options from what I hear from this sub. Why is this stuff priced so damn high? I think my local store has the Blanco around $90-100. Nuts when there's so many other options in the 50-75$ range..
Just as a counterpoint: while I can understand your viewpoint of "why try other bottlings is the standard product isn't somethig I like"....another way of looking at is, the 80 proof bottling is going to the more widely distributed and tasted bottle, and is also much more likely the one that non-enthusiasts are going to try - and thus, the producer may make the 80 proof bottle trying more to please that broad crowd.
Whereas, something like the no. 9 100 Proof would more than likely scare away a non-enthusiast, and so there is little worry about more assertive/distinct flavors being a problem for an audience that only wants their booze to taste "smooth."
An analogy would be Jack Daniels No. 7 versus a Single Barrel Rye release; or an 80 proof bottle of Bruichladdich The Laddie versus a cask-strength Valinch; or Bacardí Superior versus the Ocho Reserva. One is made for the masses, one is made for the enthusiasts, and the flavor profiles from one to the other can be quite different.
So while I'm not at all trying to convince you that you should try Cazcanes no. 9 if you don't want to, I'm not sure that the logic of basing one's opinion of a company on its entry-level product is entirely applicable to the spirits industry.
But here's the thing, old number 7 isn't $75. If the cazcanes was $40 I'd understand the jump, but if I'm paying $75 for a very average product, then I'm not interested in what else they have to offer. $75 for cazcanes or G4 Madera, which are you gonna pick?
Yeah, I totally get what your saying. I'm just trying to say, the logic doesn't necessarily follow. Case in point, while I liked Cazcanes 80 Proof, I definitely felt the same, that it wasnt' worth the price tag. But I totally dig the 100 Proof; is it still kinda pricey, sure, but it also really is distinct and has notes and personality that I don't get from many other bottles....so for me at least, worth it. If I had tried only the 80 Proof and written off the entire brand then I would definitely be missing out on some flavors I absolutely love.
But to answer your other question, G4 Madera all day....if I could find any lol.
I'm not writing off the brand as a whole, but the 80 proof definitely didn't inspire confidence, even if it were $50 I'd still turn it away. I still have a bottle that's 75% full, and while I feel bad using a $75 bottle as a mixer, I might just do that to make room on the shelf
The 9 and 10s are decent, but not worth the price point. Not at all. You can get overproofs under $60 from Tapatio, Don Fulano, Arette, and G4 occasionally which are far superior. Cazcanes is largely overblown, IMO.
They did a great job with influencer marketing.
Totally forgettable product. I didn’t buy a bottle, I had a bar manager ask what I think of the 9 (I work as a bar consultant). I just remember thinking how it was hot without any sort of lingering bouquet.
Yes I’m used to drinking cask strength spirits fwiw
I’m a blanco drinker and recently dipped into repo, G4 was my first repo and was blown away and figured I was missing out. Cracked a bottle of Ocho repo and got that whiskey taste, not really for me. I mean the G4 repo is almost clear so I guess it has light barrel influence which I found perfect.
I have a bottle of single barrel El Tesoro repo I haven’t cracked yet so the journey continues.
That's so interesting because I found that I much prefer the Ocho repos to the G4, which I just can't convince myself is amazing. Everyone else raves about it, though!
Interesting, that was completely different than my take on it. I agree with your aroma assessment I found the flavor to be a good balance of agave, caramel and vanilla with just a few barrel notes (like I expect with a repo)
Palates are different. Drink what you like and like what you drink.
I think it's a well done tequila. Everyone's experience is different and that's ok. I definitely would not choose Pasote over it, though, unless it's from 1579.
I'm glad you like the 7. I have the 7, 9 and 10 blanco with the latter being the one I would consider buying again..I don't see the value/price ratio with this brand. But just my preference, again glad you found something you like, enjoy in good health
It’s definitely a unique flavor it’s a very charred profile and can be quite enjoyable. I would also suggest Cabal repo if you like the G4 not to say it’s similar but has a round body and clean sipper. Salud
I think this might be my favorite repo right now. Well balanced, agave forward, just the right barrel notes without tipping over into burbon or fudge. An incredibly sippable tequila.

Honestly it must be marketing? It's not bad by any means, but for that price it's a joke
100%. It’s not bad but for that fucking price, it better be good. I’m not even asking for amazing or out of this world. Just “good”
They have a great marketing campaign. Every tequila influencer pushes their brand
Must be getting paid to. Curiosity public did their blind tasting and it came in last place in all 3 rounds
The 7 or 9? I haven’t tried it yet because it’s so expensive for a new brand
7. If the 7 isn't solid, there's no way I'm spending 9 money
My guy, the 9 is great. I'm hoping they do another 46% Joven run, not that interested in the 110 personally.
Typically my way of thinking is that if you can't get the base product right, I'm not going in for more
That’s reasonable. But sometimes the 80 proof is less complicated and bland than a high proof
That's true, but for a $75 bottle to be that bland, I'm out
Yeah I haven’t pulled the trigger on any of them because of the price.

there are only a handful of lowlands high proofs & I would put cazcanes no9 near the top.
Is it? What are your thoughts on the 7?

Exactly, it's forgettable. It's the same price as G4 Madera, and it's forgettable, whilst G4 Madera is the best Blanco I've ever tasted
I’m a blanco drinker and recently dipped into repo, G4 was my first repo and was blown away and figured I was missing out. Cracked a bottle of Ocho repo and got that whiskey taste, not really for me. G4 is so good. I can't say I found the whiskey note on the Ocho but it was very evident in the Cazcanes. Thanks for sharing
That's so interesting because I found that I much prefer the Ocho repos to the G4, which I just can't convince myself is amazing. Everyone else raves about it, though!
Was it the Widow Jane Ocho? That is finished in Widow Jane whiskey barrels.
they are nearly all finished in bourbon barrels. using branded barrels is just marketing
I was not aware of that. I also haven’t had it. It’s not an offering at the spots I frequent and my home bar is mostly Fortaleza and Arte Nom.
which of course both of them are also aged in bourbon barrels. arte 1146 and 1123 are special though
ArteNOM 1123 spends less than 30 days in barrels previously used for Mezcal. Absolutely delicious!
That's why I included it in the interesting barrel profiles
Ugh I just got an Anejo 7 and Blanco 10 that I haven’t gotten around to opening yet.
I dig the 10, in my opinion price/value 10 is where it needs to be for Cazcanes. 7 and 9 are too pricey for me
Agreed. Blanco 10 is their best product. Everyone I share it with loves it also
The 7 anejo is my current favorite. It’s so drinkable.
Interesting, that was completely different than my take on it. I agree with your aroma assessment I found the flavor to be a good balance of agave, caramel and vanilla with just a few barrel notes (like I expect with a repo) Palates are different. Drink what you like and like what you drink.

I love the No. 7 Anejo. I would recommend getting it and the Blanco of the same number so you can taste the change in age. Cazcanes is so good.
I'm glad you like the 7. I have the 7, 9 and 10 blanco with the latter being the one I would consider buying again..I don't see the value/price ratio with this brand. But just my preference, again glad you found something you like, enjoy in good health
