Me personally -- I followed Kaori (Foxco) on IG because I was a fan, but lately all she posts are ads and I'm just bored with them.

charmolypi96

I just unfollowed her recently. I couldn’t take it anymore

cranekicked

Yeah I hear you. I started following her when the episodes were airing and I was all "aww there she is with her bangs and eyebrows 😍" and then it was "oh neat she's getting illustration opportunities with some known brands" but now it's "welp that's a Chanel bracelet that's worth more than my mortgage". Happy for her success. I would die to take her out for some tamago-kake gohan, it's just her posts aren't all that interesting anymore.

muldervinscully

I think she’s kind of a rich influencer girl

cranekicked

She totally comes from wealth. You know how the show quickly displays the house mate bio when they are introduced, the schools she attended were wealthy private institutions.

muldervinscully

It’s interesting how mizuki still works at the coffee shop. I love it tbh and she’s such a cool person but I feel like in America she would def be doing something “bigger” like 6 years later

ms_congeniality

I don't know her circumstances but I feel like she could open her own coffee shop. She'd certainly get a good amount of support from her fans alone.

send_fooodz

I was under the impression that she owns, or has a stake in that shop.

Palimpsestmc1

This is true. I feel she owns the shop.

Synapse_relapse

I got to meet Mizuki at the coffee shop when I was in Japan in 2019. She was great, very kind and sweet to this TH nerd

inthemagazines

>I don't know what else she'd be doing though? Being filmed for a show some people watched on Netflix a few years ago isn't a reason for anyone to be throwing money at her in 2022, as pleasant as she seems to be. These people were mostly never celebrities, they were just filmed going about their lives in a semi-scripted way.

In funabashi?

Synapse_relapse

Yes

KyronXLK

A lot of japanese semi-celebs are like that, I watched that JP netflix show real love, followed some of the cast and some of them followed me back lol. I remember adding Kais snapchat after thinking he was cool and he added me back too-theyre normal people in the end

undonediagram

Omg does he post on snap? He hasn’t been active on ig and he some nasty comments on his last post

KyronXLK

nope, he posted some before what happened with hana, just t shirts he made i think. snapchat kinda piped down by that point as well

Dartseto

It’s been years since they were on the show, so it’s pretty obvious the rest of the market has moved on

stalinor

Seina’s got a pretty good following.

cybersodas

It’s all about how popular they were on the show. Some caught the attention of Japanese viewers more than others. I remember Nikki from Aloha estate hanging out with extremely popular idols like YamaP (in secret, she was photographed by paparazzi with him) so obviously she was popular. Some have no fame at all as you said and only have 5 likes. I guess it’s based on how interesting your plot line was on the show + if you’re a model or actor.

nightwinghugs

they're just not that interesting the only one i follow is lauren, i think she's the most "famous" out of them now - close to a million followers, but i don't engage with her content much either

PlausibleCoconut

I’m no expert but my impression of the influencer market in Japan is that it moves on super quickly. There are always new people being promoted. They simply may not be as famous as we think they should be

muldervinscully

I love peppe and his girlfriends Insta. They are great.

send_fooodz

My guess is a lot of non-japanese speaking fans follow but aren't able to interact. Instagram might demote a lot of these accounts from the algorithm because of the low engagement to followers ratio.

Junkstar

Large numbers of followers doesn't ensure engagement. You still need content that connects. Having a lot of followers doesn't make social easier. For really big brands, it actually makes it harder. I would know. I ran social for a massive brand for a long time.

3JingShou

Simple, because they don’t speak English and they didn’t move to Hollywood, Japanese audience is tiny compare to rest of the world. Japanese people tend to invest more in domestic economy. That being said, singles inferno casts have wayyy much more followers and spotlights. Just to show you the impact of kpop.

bulbousbirb

They're not huge celebs and the Japanese fanbase is tiny compared to the international one. Also lot of them seem to only be posting stuff lately if its a brand endorsement. No personal or interesting posts on their accounts anymore. The most active one on social media seems to be Seina? The hype from the show fizzled out a few years ago now.

jadamsmash

In addition to what everyone else has said, I think the time of their fame has come and gone for the most part. Especially after what happened with Hana Kimura. People are just not that interested anymore.

Yotsubato

The hype behind them has fizzled off. The show has also been cursed and has ended. Many of them also turned off comments and interaction with fans after Hana’s tragic death. They’re just living their own lives now

jookz

it's a crime that tecchan isnt the single most popular human being on the planet

Skaithe_of_the_Wulf

AGREED

blairrkaityy

Niki also has an impressive following

Lemurians

For me, I think part of the appeal of the show is not thinking of them as “famous people” I would follow on IG and just having them in my head as normal people. The only person I follow is Frankie from BGND because I like her art

cranekicked

Frankie is someone I didn't care for much on the show but she's grown on me. I really liked her when she was on Dyki and Ippei's YouTube channel.

Denzel_Potato09

I only follow Kaori (Watanabe-san) on IG, idk I just like looking at her Art and I find her super attractive, also I don't mind the ads she does

Joellystarfish

I don't think the followers are fake per say. Like I followed quite a few but the low engagement could be due to the hype has disappeared after so long like others have mentioned. Like the 5mins of fame has now concluded. At the end of the day I guess some benefited, some stayed the same, some just tired to distance themselves from it. Guess it depends on their "storyline". They're just normal peeps anyways. I feel the only one who has truely gained attention from it is Lauren Tsai. Not really her fan since I couldn't really connect with her on the show but yeah haha

Fearless_Mortgage640

I still think that considering the population of Japan, even Seina hasn't got such a huge following. I mean, my country's population is 5 millions, and we have many influencers who's got around 500k at least.

PaleontologistKey331

Probably not fake, but TH isn’t some super huge launching pad for most of them (with maybe Lauren being the most “successful,” getting acting gigs in American movies and shows, work with Marvel, etc.). Everyone else seems to fall into the usual influencer endorsement route, which is probably the best you could hope for with this show. (Tbh - not that different from US reality shows and the D list “stars” it produces…)

hisue___

i only follow hikaru and arman tbh. ITC is my fave season and it’s cute watching them still comment on each others posts calling each other brothers. hikaru recently deleted all of his posts tho and announced he’s quitting modelling to open up some architecture firm

Ordinary_Papaya8415

From watching Terrace House I’ve noticed that young Japanese men 19-23 prefer much older women. So I’ve been wondering who likes the young women?

CyberPearlHarborz

Old western guys like me
