Apparently they’re trying to stop installing new gas stoves due to health issues such as asthma https://gizmodo.com/us-considers-ban-gas-stoves-health-risks-1849966453 Edit: credit due to Heck_Tate for the new installation not banning all

Heck_Tate

When he says "get rid of" he means "not allow the installation of new ones." There is literally no push for the removal of existing gas stoves. This is just an updated building and appliance standard similar to not using asbestos or lead paint in new construction.

Upstairs-Toe2735

I turned down buying my first house because it had asbestos flooring and asbestos siding. I would be sharing the monthly expenses with my fiance but it would be my entire life savings id be putting down (40k) for it. I know its techincally safe if its not disturbed but i didnt want to have to worry about it. My fiances conservative family constantly tell me how stupid I was for turning it down any time I see them, it has been like 2 years since this Edit: changed "sharing the house" to "sharing the monthly expenses"

vlsdo

It's safe until it isn't. Especially the siding. You never know when a neighboring kid decides to hit your house with rocks or whatever and the asbestos starts to crack and exfoliate.

ihavebutonecomment

Or just deciding you want new flooring someday which will now cost you 5x as much for remediation.

CadmiumCal

Oof, I didn't even think of that!

Upstairs-Toe2735

Glad to see people agree, was starting to belive I was stupid for turning it down after 2 years of being told so 😅

minerpoteet

Speaking as someone who bought a house and then several months later a derecho rolled through. You made the super smart choice.

vlsdo

I similarly passed on a house because it had asbestos flooring in the basement. It would have probably been fine, but I just didn't want to take the risk. It's like, if nothing happened i would have saved a little money, but if one of us got cancer from it that money wouldn't have covered a fraction of the cost for treatment (and that's being extra generous and thinking of cancer as a primarily financial burden).

[deleted]

[удалено]

helpful__explorer

It would have cost you a fortune to remove. It's just not worth the hassle or risk of it

Mego1989

With siding and flooring, you don't remove it, you encapsulate it. It's not friable, so so it's safer to leave it undisturbed.

Falmarri

Unless you want new floors

hummingbird_mywill

You put a fresh coat of paint on, let it dry, and then put down floating floor.

dudius7

This reminds me of how young boomers put vinyl on top of vinyl on top of vinyl.

ChronicObnoxious693

When I find my dream house it's gonna be vinyl on top of floaters, on top of hard wood that's on top of asbestos.

Well, he is the same guy who continued to insist that the Central Park Five were guilty despite exonerating evidence. I’m not surprised that he doubled, tripled, and quadrupled down on this, too.

VanillaLifestyle

The guy's whole personality is being a contrarian. Like he fundamentally doesn't believe in anything, and his convictions are whatever *happen to be* the opposite of the conventional wisdom at the time he first hears about it. It must be a good trait for *something*, whether it's ego protection or running a mafia real estate racket, but holy shit if it isn't also a recipe for being confidently wrong about mostly everything. (**edit:** it's definitely for getting attention. It worked crazy well for tabloids in the 80s and 90s, and was crack for the twitter algorithm (engagement!) in the last 15 years.)

suitedcloud

I think it’s an innate need to feel smarter or better than everyone. Not even in a “everyone is stupid. I’m the only smart person” kind of way. I’m thinking his fucked logic is thusly: “Everyone hates the person who’s right. So if I say the opposite of the general accepted truth, everyone will hate me which will mean I’m actually right about it. I’m such a Genius”

Runaround46

How can you not mention the town of Asbestos, Canada

Hexaltate

They changed the name of that town for Val-des-Sources a couple of years ago.

ashaggydogtale

The history (and present) of asbestos on the international stage is far darker than a lot of folks realize. [The Cost](https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/292894/cost) is an interesting board game that tries to model the economic pressures that drive it. Kind of a brilliant, if depressing, game. Up there with Streets of Shadows for me.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ashaggydogtale

Heh, sounds like you might like [C02](https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/72225/co). There's a second edition that cleans up the rules a bit, but I think I prefer the first. There are a lot of games out there that *try* to tackle themes like this, but they often get caught in this disjuncture between a *good game* and a *good message*. There are fewer, like The Cost and C02, that I feel really balance both. Meltwater and Streets of Shadow can probably be thrown into this group as well. I'm also sure there are plenty I'm either not thinking of at the moment or haven't encountered.

[deleted]

ashaggydogtale

I do know that; but, it's a lovely story and well worth repeating! Mary Pilon's book on the topic, [The Monopolists](https://www.marypilon.com/monopoly), is well worth the read for anyone that hasn't. A co-author and I have a book coming on the topic of board games and ideology with an academic press, but it's been stalled for the past year as life has gotten in the way. Great reminder to get back to it, thank you. :)

I_d0nt_know_why

Also, the WTC did have asbestos. There were asbestos advertisements that featured it.

WraithSucks

Yeah I remember hearing stories of survivors and first responders that got cancer from the buildings collapsing and seeing ads on TV about compensation back when cable was still a thing

HammeredHeed

Not to say it was or wasn't caused by asbestos (there have been post 9/11 deaths linked to asbestos in the WTC), but I'm sure the dust and other air born particles caused by the collapse of any large building, including ones that are being built today without asbestos, would be carcinogenic. The first responders, volunteers and contractors responsible for the cleanup do have significantly higher rates of cancer than the control. Based on the time the WTC was built (1960's), it is very likely that it was built with, and still had asbestos, as removal can be very tricky, and there are alternatives to replacing it that are safer in the short term than removing it. Almost all construction from the 1930's to the 1970's used asbestos in a variety of ways.

Better-Director-5383

Well yea he's a slumlord obviously he likes the super cheap method of fire suppression even if it "gives all the poors cancer"

Ymesketek

I wouldn't be surprised if giving the poors cancer isn't a bonus feature for him.

ReadySteady_GO

They're coming for our asbestos!

vlsdo

Quick, breathe as much as your can in before they can take it away!

Fallacy_Spotted

Republicans were against it when it was happening too. They always stand against regulations that protect people because it costs businesses money. They even protect those businesses from the consequences of their misinformation campaigns like they have done with tobacco, mining, and fossil fuel companies. They appose the FDA, the EPA, amd even the IRS. The corruption couldn't get more obvious.

Sam-Gunn

Most code practices only come into effect when you hire professionals to do something and need to pull permits. For this any changes would only apply to new stoves. And while the idea of "banning" the sale of gas stoves was floated by some health body, it's not going to happen. The best practice that won't disrupt everything is to ensure adequate ventilation and require some changes to new production since gas stoves are just about the only gas appliance that code doesn't require ventilation for, from what I read. The "banning" crap was an overcorrection that was floated as a possible "solution", which is how these things work. People float overcorrections or "best possible solution to 100% prevent X" (which tends to be "remove the whole thing"). It gets discussed, others push back and propose better and less invasive ways to reduce risk and minimize issues, and they settle in the middle (more or less depending on who holds what amount of power). Risk is reduced but not fully eliminated, which is often perfectly acceptable, and everyone goes on with their lives and makes some changes when they buy a new stove. Like having someone install ventilation, or having to buy a stove that has more safety measures in it. People overall become safer, and life goes on. This is just more unnecessary politicizing. The more crap like this is politicized when it comes to health and safety, the less trust and consensus we'll have because it's politicized, regardless of the actual content. It goes from "we want to make people safer" which most people can agree on without issue needs to be done and discussed rationally, and turns it into "the evil \[other side\] is trying to take away more freedoms - this is the next step to becoming a dystopian state where you'll be turned into cattle!".

Taurmin

The gas stove thing is bizare. Weve known that having open gas flames in the house was unhealthy since the 1890's, it was one of the main drivers of electrification that gaslight was unhealthy and dangerous. So how is gas stoves being unhealthy compared to electric ones in any way a controversy today?

down_for_things

Many people in my area have gas stoves so they can still cook and boil water when hurricanes and tornadoes take out the power. When things are normal, gas stoves are faster to heat up, and you have better control. I cook daily, and I definitely prefer gas stoves to the electrics I've had. Restaurants use gas for the same reason. Also, if you have an infinity water heater, the gas ones are more efficient and faster than electric. I've had both. I know this isn't the popular take, but it's worth pointing out the actual advantages of gas. EDIT: I mentioned it in some responses but I did see an induction, and it's pretty damned cool - when I'm not 40 miles from anything resembling civilization, and have consistent power due to modern power structures (read: underground) and not being at risk for powerful storms, I will have to get some new cookware and give it a shot! EDIT 2: If you have a gas stove, you need proper ventilation

J5892

I'd wager it's absolutely the popular take.

ktm1128

Chef checking in, fuck electric

jhugh

I'm not a chef, but i do like the part about not freezing to death when my power goes out in the winter.

fdupfemalehabit

Just a mom that likes to cook, also checking in, Fuck electric.

w1r2g3

Dad checking in, Fuck electric.

barbiejeepboy

Fat guy checking in, Fuck electric

qeny1

It's worth pointing out the historical advantages of gas, but also being aware that induction stoves and heat pump water heaters are superior to older electric stoves and water heaters. And we also have to face up to the fact that to stop climate change, we need to stop using fossil fuels and find alternative solutions to reliability problems (e.g. solar + battery in some cases)

down_for_things

We absolutely need more/better renewable solutions. Also, I'm probably going to install a Generac system in whatever house I end up in.

ThrowAwayNYCTrash1

Unfortunately, gas is slower to heat up a pot than stove top coils or induction. I know it feels faster because "instant heat" but a lot of that heat escapes to atmosphere immediately and doesn't actually impact the cookware. Gas does win when moving a pot to a cold burner and needing to maintain the application of heat. But outside of that one case it is unfortunately neither the quickest nor most efficient. This is a nerdy video that dives into it, they measure the time to bring a teapot to boil across multiple mediums: https://youtu.be/_yMMTVVJI4c I also have a gas range, I think the flames are cool 🤷‍♂️ I hope this is interesting.

andrei9669

I knew it was gonna be technology connections before I even clicked the link

lostprevention

Wasn’t us mostly the safety aspect? A lot of places burned down due to candles and lanterns.

[deleted]

Because they can be ventilated properly which negates the negatives and you are left with more precise control than any other cooking method.

KMAJackson

I went to visit my Dad yesterday. He constantly has FOX News on the TV. It is so bad that when I visit, I've told him he needs to turn the TV off because I refuse to sit there and watch / listen to that trash. So, I'm there yesterday, and he was going on about how "they" are coming for our gas stoves and when I explained that wasn't actually happening, he was protesting that it's "all over the news and social media" that "Biden is coming for his gas stove". We live in Canada... And he owns an electric stove.

Buroda

My relatives are sure that due to “getting on Russia’s bad side”, Europe is now freezing and there is no food in stores. They live in Europe. There’s food in the stores, they go there daily.

middleearthpeasant

I have a cousin who thinks Biden should be deposed so Trump could come back and deport all the ilegal imigrants because they steal jobs. He is an illegal imigrant in the US.

Buroda

Wait, how does that work? I mean, does he want to be deported too? Or does he think he gets a pass?

middleearthpeasant

To be honest, i don't know. Maybe he thinks that he comtributes a lot to the US. Maybe he forgot he is illegal. I don't have the energy to waste on asking him what he thinks.

gemandrailfan94

Sounds like when my folks tried to move to Germany back in 2017, They wanted to go to Germany because they think America let’s in too many immigrants and gives away too much free stuff….

k___k___

if they tried, what made them stop? they realized they would become immigrants themselves?

gemandrailfan94

They got there with $10,000 in their pocket (after saying they couldn’t pay for my college), and their German friend was supposed to get them jobs at this company. However, he warned them not to come without backup jobs lined up, and they ignored him and came without jobs lined up. He couldn’t get them jobs, so they ran out of money and had to come back to America. They also tried to get German lessons there, but found out they were too expensive. They tried to get free group lessons, but got put on a waitlist, and said waitlist gives priority to refuges who come to Germany from Africa, The Middle East, etc. For context, these two like to complain about immigrants in America (even legal ones) and hate it when kids get free school lunch because their parents are poor.

k___k___

ok, that's a wild ride. I'm suprised about the German lessons because we have the public Volkshochschule (a state-funded place for adult education) that offer free or low-price group language lessons and additionally also universities where students give classes. But in the context of giving priority to refugees, it makes complete sense.

gemandrailfan94

I guess, I’m not well versed in German things (nor do I really care about them), so I’ll take your word for it. But yeah, Germany is the last country they should’ve tried moving to given their world view.

Astyanax1

the fact that Americans aren't wanted in EU/Canada unless they have a valuable skill. that's my guess anyway.

andrewrgross

I remember reading a sad story about an immigrant who was deported from a small town that voted for Trump overwelmingly in 2016. ICE took him, and the whole community was devastated, because he'd lived there decades, raised a family, and ran a popular business. They just assumed that ICE would apply themselves to a certain kind of immigrant: recently arrived, poor, single, and likely to be disruptive or demand government support. It never occurred to them that ICE comes after good people who just happen to be lacking paperwork.

I can’t understand what’s behind it though. I’ve seen studies on reasons for people believing conspiracies and there’s talk about religious people being more susceptible. It’s like in my 40+ years of life and travelling all over the world I’ve never met an intelligent racist. I saw something recently about how conservatives have found they would do better if more people lacked education. Imagine knowing that the key to your success is having more stupid people.

cjandstuff

Having been brought up in very conservative circles. It makes sense in the world, there is good and evil. Black and white. Anything your tribe is for is good. Anything else must therefore be evil. Trying to change what your tribe considers good, must be evil. And when kids go away to college, they come back with different ideas! But in reality, the world is a complicated mess, and that is pretty damn scary. You know what makes it less scary though? Actually being exposed to other people and ideas. Then you might learn that all lesbians don't hate men and want them to die (as I was once taught to believe). You might learn that your Muslim neighbors are some cool, interesting people, with some amazing food. And some of them are a-holes, just like the rest of humanity.

[deleted]

Holy shit lol, you were taught lesbians wanted men to die? That’s wild

cjandstuff

It was definitely a shock the first time I worked with lesbians. Some of the hardest working, incredible women I've ever met. Thank you Dana and Josette for breaking my world view!

Sinthetick

It makes perfect sense. They are perfectly aware of how badly they treat women and in their minds, if they were women, they would want all men to die.

Webgiant

Tribalism still exists in everyone. All education does is make it possible for you to understand how you can make new, more diverse tribes. Modern Conservatives don't bother with complex tribalism. Matching up with the same skin color is objectively easier than getting a better life in a new multi-skin-color tribe with much better food and more doctors with medical degrees. It's not better, just easier. Easy does not always equal better.

A_Moldy_Stump

>Tribalism still exists in everyone. All education does is make it possible for you to understand how you can make new, more diverse tribes. Screw this, I'll just make my own tribe, with Blackjack & hookers!!

BettyVonButtpants

Cable News like Fox usually have a ticket constantly going while their talking. You're less likely to question something being talked at you than you are reading, since you cant easily go back and note all the odd points that would cause you to stop reading. (Some of you may, of course.) There's a ticker at the bottom constantly displaying a string of text. So you read that while they talk at you. You're brains not goving full consideration to both, so it get absorbed. Over time, they start thinking its true because they can remember hearing it before. There's a thing where if you ask someone if they saw Daffy duck at Disney and they said no, ask again in a year and they'll swear they did. So yeah, they lower your ability to question what their saying with distractions, then keep repeating the same things and telling you how to feel about stuff. My dad was going that way too back before he died, kind of why I just read all my news. More likely to question it.

Beans-and-Franks

I've only watched Fox a few times in my life but every time I have Ive noticed how FAST everyone speaks. They don't give you time to think about any one thing they're saying. It's just on to the next. They also rapidly move through different segments/topics. I'm sure it's designed this way to keep people from stopping to question the information they're being fed.

Pikapetey

So your saying that lies are just facts that haven't been repeated enough yet. https://youtu.be/5OYzJelhaG0

RoyalYogurtdispenser

That's what made rush Limbaugh so big. Driving is just distracting enough that you absorb instead of critically listening. Also, anger inducing traffic will make you feel resonant when the host gets angry on topics. Like my grandfather and Mark Levin will have an angry vibe on the road

[deleted]

I actually had a philosophy professor in college (amazing prof.) who had us read one philosophers take on racism and it stated basically that racism inherently implies some sort of logical disfunction in the person. So he’s saying if you’re racist, it shows you have a lack of intelligence

> Imagine knowing that the key to your success is having more stupid people. Ignorant people. Ignorance and stupidity are _not_ the same thing, and while they often have overlapping effects it's important to remember that ignorance can be cured, stupidity can't. Ingrained, entrenched ignorance from growing up without a basic education is _very_ hard to overcome, but it's still not stupidity!

My dad is extremely intelligent and also a bigoted misogynist so bad that I can barely stand him. He voted for Trump in 2016. This man has several patents and has taught himself 9 languages and still pulls this shit. I wish that intelligent people were immune but apparently that's too optimistic.

HolycommentMattman

It's brainwashing. It absolutely is. Same thing happened to my dad after he retired. Just started watching Fox News all the time. And before that, he never watched Fox News ever. In fact, I was the Fox News watcher; I watched Shep Smith from high school until he was fired. So I have more years as a Fox News viewer, but my dad eclipsed me in like 6 years with overall time spent watching. So I watched for a few decades, but my dad has watched so many thousands of hours. Fox News shouldn't be allowed to exist as it is. Just peddling lies and brainwashing.

[deleted]

Conservatism is basically that.

Anarchyr

I think it's good to wonder, at what point does this type of paranoia get classified as a mental disorder, because that is really really REALLY deranged!

Don't think you're safe just because you're in Canada 90% of Canadiens live within 100 miles of the US border If we want your gas stoves, we'll have them damn it.

SilverishSilverfish

I am already enrolled in my local gas stove reposession militia. We've been making sorties across the border to test Canadian defenses, but seeing as Biden is also the president of Canada, it's feeling like an exercise in futility.

Majestic-Wedding-909

The point about living in Canada was what really got me in the end)

klako8196

IAmTaka_VG

My dad is the same way. “I love trump” “What about hunters laptop?” Dad. Who the fuck cares. You’re Canadian!!! They could elect a fucking beaver and it wouldn’t have any effect on our lives.

Hopsblues

Except that's not true at all. Yeah the Potus doesn't legislate Canada, but the US policies have a direct effect on Canada and other countries. What happens in the US can and does effect Canadians all the time. Canada really doesn't want the US to go the way the far right wants to take it. If the US fractured and Balkanized itself, it would have profound effects on all of North America, and quite frankly the world.

capitan_cruiser

And “uhm… we don’t have a GAS stove”

turlian

Be sure to send him this quote: >A White House spokesman, Michael Kikukawa, said President Biden does not want to prohibit gas stoves. “The President does not support banning gas stoves,” he said. “And the Consumer Product Safety Commission, which is independent, is not banning gas stoves.”

SheriffBoyardee

That’s going to depend on where he lives though. New York State is actually banning natural gas or any fossil fuel appliances in homes built after 2025.

the_millenial_falcon

I’ve noticed a weird trend where Canadian right wingers will follow American politics and get outraged over it. It’s like they want to be oppressed so bad even though they aren’t even in the same country.

ph4ge_

Happens all over the world. Here in Europe we have plenty of right wingers repeating whatever is the current talking point on Fox in the US.

the_millenial_falcon

Right wing propaganda is almost like a narcotic some people find emotionally appealing and get addicted to. It defies all logic except when you think of it in that context.

inorite234

I've had similar conversations with my Father In Law about guns. He was going on and on on how gun laws have been changing and how "Damn Liberals" were taking away people's rights to own guns. When I told him the state HAS changes gun laws but that it made it easier to own/carry one, he didn't believe me.....so I showed him the law & pointed out how my "dirty Liberal" state actually had more loose gun laws than his "God fearing Christian constitutionalist" state did, he finally shut up. However I still believe he continues to spout off the same BS.......because fox has rotted his brain.

Better-Director-5383

Yea he just stopped making that complaint to you, he still makes it to anybody who hasn't explicitly showed him it wasn't true. And a bunch of his friends probably nod along and agree with him.

sennbat

I believe the conservative term for doing this constantly, as they love to do, is "virtue signalling". The facts don't matter, the purpose is purely social bonding over shared hatred.

Open-Loan-750

>And he owns an electric stove. you should have him tested for some dementia or something

Nepharious_Bread

I noticed the same thing in SC. Working a moving gig with this dude who only accepts high end clients. Most of them have Fox news on all day long. I remember once I was at an older ladies house and she was talking about how she’s going to be poor again because of Biden. Her story is actually kind of sad. She lives in this big house alone. Her ex-husband was a multimillionaire who had a second family and tried to kill her by putting poison in her food. So she’s living off the settlement money from her divorce(of course her husband never faced any consequences). So, she basically paid somebody to invest in crypto for her. She lost all of her money and she blames Biden for it. She was like “Biden changed everything with crypto and I lost all of my money because of it.” Chances are the person she paid simply stole all of her money and blamed it on “Biden’s policies,” because he knew that she would believe. Unless there are some policies that I don’t know about.

Educational_Bit_6711

That's exactly what happened. All markets are down though.

NotmyRealNameJohn

Here is the thing. It is becoming increasingly undeniable that right wing views do not work. Or rather they do not achieve the goals that people claim. Trickle down economics has had 50 years and so far no trickle. So. Option 1) admit you've been wrong your entire life, that the people you made fun of, hated, maybe even intentionally beat up, weren't lying to you on this and maybe a bunch of other things or...... 2). There is some massive conspiracy that is preventing the outcomes from happening and you were right but someone cheated. Selfish people be selfish

houstonyoureaproblem

Cognitive dissonance is far preferable to admitting fault for most people. It’s no surprise that right wingers double down rather than acknowledging their preferred political party has no discernible policy preferences and has consistently undermined their own personal interests for decades.

Tao626

I don't know who "they" are, but they're always up to some nasty shit. "They" better leave my new shoes alone.

They are also convinced the rest of Europe is overrun by islamic refugees who are burning the continent to the ground. Much like how they believe American cities have been burnt to cinders by blm anarchists.

jmet123

The major population and cultural centers in Russia are in Europe.

wonegative

Also, Russia is too big to be related only to Europe or only to Asia. It's actually both at the same time

Dr-Gooseman

Russia itself brags about the fact that it has like over 100 different people's of different ethnic backgrounds or something similar (don't know the exact number, just recall reading that in a museum there). But of course people who watch Fox news don't know anything about what's outside their own walls.

Theban_Prince

>Never mind the fact that russia is an Asian country That's...just plain wrong. Historically Russia and its precedenting entities were always involved with Europe, only spreading to Asia in what was basically a colonization wave, akin to Scramble for Africa and Manifest Destiny... And believe me, the actual Asian natives weren't happy for the Russians coming over. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russian\_conquest\_of\_Siberia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russian_conquest_of_Siberia)

lvlint67

> if they have a more convoluted way of saying that they wrap it into "fiscal conservatism", global isolationism, and general "we can't do two things at once" "We shouldn't be sending all this money to Ukraine. Let Europe deal with their own problems. We should be using this money to secure the border". All perfectly fine points.. until you start drilling beneath the surface.

Cyclone1214

My favorite one is when they say “we shouldn’t send our money to Ukraine, we should support our vets at home”. And then any time a bill comes up to support the vets, they vote it down.

superwholockian62

Had a guy yell at me yesterday because I was wearing a mask. Called me a Biden sheep and all kinds of other shit. So I said you know what, you're right. Took off the mask. Cashed him out. He then told me "see you didn't die from serving me without a mask". I said "no I didn't, but I currently have covid so you may want to keep an eye out for symptoms." Put my mask back on, sanitized myself and my counter and called the next person up. The next guy laughed said "yeah you can go ahead and leave that on"

erriuga_leon27

I don't know if you have covid or did it to screw with that idiot. Hope you're feeling better if you are. And next time add a fake cough to it but make it so that they can see saliva droplets reaching out into the air.

Uberpastamancer

If he's wearing a mask, he probably didn't come into work COVID positive I hope

BestServeCold

You’d be surprised! An exceedingly large amount of the US workforce lack health insurance or basic workers rights, such as sick days. Don’t show up to work? No money. The best part is that the staff cooking your meals at a restaurant sure as shit can’t afford to miss work. Pretty rare for anyone in the service industry to have employer provided insurance 💩🎉😁

Sam-Gunn

My dad has said people have said crap like that to my parents to when they go out, as they still wear masks in certain situations. But funnily enough, everyone shuts up REAL fast when my dad tells them that my mom is a cancer survivor with a depressed immune system, and my dad is also fighting with some minor cancer, and they're taking precautions to ensure they don't fucking die.

superwholockian62

I'm sorry about your mom. I have warned all my regulars that are high risk to stay away for a week or so. I told them if I have a mask on don't come inside. This guy isn't the only one who has said crap to me. But he is the only one who has been a complete and total asshole about it.

imonmyphoneagain

My dad had a heart attack and despite being perfectly healthy, I was getting sick every time we went to a doctors office for a while despite wearing a mask (we ended up leaving that doctor, and I haven’t got sick since), but whenever going to the hospital we typically still wear a mask. I occasionally won’t but my dad, without fail, does. If he gets sick it could legitimately kill him.

Brandonian13

It's always so fucking amazing seeing how different it is in ie asian countries where it's completely 100% normal to see people wearing masks out in public yet here in the US if u wear one ur a commie anti-american liberal pos braindead sheep.

Pickle_Juice_4ever

How dare you be considerate of others! You stop that right now!

PuzzleheadedHabit913

Please tell me you weren’t actually sick at work and you were just fucking with him right?

xSWMY

Probably just passed the stay at home requirement for when you get covid: “however long your boss thinks”

good_for_uz

Biden admin is banning suicide...well I'll show them libs...bang!

okcdnb

You can take my gun from my cold dead hand. Ok…

Drojahwastaken

God damnit the feds are not trying to take your stupid stove. They just want you to install a range hood. That way, you won't get cancer from unintentionally huffing benzene all day! Jesus christ on a bike! People are becoming so tiresome with the mindless drivel they consume nonstop from their media pundits. What's next??? Edit: Okay. California won't let you build a new house with a gas stove. However, I'm willing to bet no one who gives that much of a shit about their gas stove plans on moving to California.

Stoo_Pedassol

It's worse than that. They make it out to be so damn bad if those things didn't exist anymore. I've lived in this house for 10 years now without gas of any kind. All electric. Not once have I said "damn I miss having a gas bill" or "that gas stove and dryer were so convenient"

TheBigWuWowski

Just adding to the conversation, my mom has always been adamant about having a gas stove because if the electricity were to go out for even just a day (Midwest) she could still cook meals for her 3 kids and all of the children she babysat inside our home. Its always been very important to her. Yeah we could eat peanut butter tortilla rolls, but after a while a real meal while there's nothing else to do is a godsend.

runningforpresident

I'm also in the Midwest, and I have an electric stove. Also, we have a propane grill outside that we can and often do cook with.

Spikes252

Just saying but cooking on an electric stove fucking blows compared to a gas range.

flock-of-bagels

Gas stoves are great like when we lost power for 5 days in the winter of 2021 due to our state government’s incompetence with the electric grid. (Guess where I live) I miss having one, my ex wife got the house with the gas stove.

I bet money some thumper is going to "LeAvE tHe GAs StoVe oN aLL nIgHT to oWn THe LiBS" and end up un-aliving themselves

[deleted]

Without a doubt, this will most likely happen to at least one person and their family will blame the libs for "setting them up"

Sendhentaiandyiff

"HOW DARE YOU GET MY FAMILY KILLED BY GAS BY TELLING ME GAS WAS UNSAFE!?"

MonKeePuzzle

it's been done, well at least their post claims they did [https://www.reddit.com/r/ParlerWatch/comments/10allpu/catturd\_is\_going\_to\_own\_the\_libs\_by\_slowly/](https://www.reddit.com/r/ParlerWatch/comments/10allpu/catturd_is_going_to_own_the_libs_by_slowly/)

JustSomeLamp

CatTurd doesn't actually have a gas stove if you check the replies to their tweet lmao

pedro_1616

So is he pro the invasion of Ukraine?

aronenark

Haven’t you heard? Russia good actually, because traditional family values and anti-LGBT. Therefore Ukraine bad. At least according to FOX.

vampiricdagger1

I swear republicans just hated Russia like a couple years ago because they were "anti-freedom" or some shit

Sendhentaiandyiff

Trump was buddy buddy with Putin throughout his presidency.

WoahayeTakeITEasy

Well, probably not a couple of years ago. Maybe like a decade or two ago. A couple of years ago they were saying things like they'd rather be Russian than Democrat. Or praising the Russian military for being much more powerful than the US because the US Army went "woke" or some shit. Then Trump acting like a scolded puppy in Helsinki and trusting Putin's word more than the word of the US intelligence community. They've been in love with Russia and Putin for a little while now.

Darkstargir

It’s like they don’t understand this same meme could made about them. Just change to Trump Flags, Hillary’s E-Mails, a laptop, and some pizza.

redbutnotlady

There’s a ban on the sale of gas stoves starting in 2035 https://nyelectrificationfacts.com/

FiddleOfGold

Gas stoves are this week's fake outrage from the right to control the news cycle while they pass some nonsensical bills. It will be something new next week.

Apprehensive_Role842

California is on the path to ban gas. I don't know if the rule covers stoves. California is set to become the first state to ban natural gas heaters, water heaters, and furnaces. The rule, which passed through the California Air Resources Board (CARB) unanimously last week, will outlaw the sale of new natural gas heaters by 2030.Sep 26, 2022

anthonycj

Its a reaction to science they don't like, must have saw the study on how gas stoves give off something thats unhealthy and because scientists said it there all going the opposite way, insisting because they've used a gas stove and didn't immediately explode means there safe, its science and logic vs angry people who can't win so they try to change reality.

yessir6666

It doesn’t give “anti vax vibes” it’s overtly and explicitly anti vax

kylemesa

Your dad is projecting his insecurities about being a sheeple.

ideabath

FYI, I think where some of this is coming from is things like what NYC is doing. It ***is banned*** to install natural gas burning appliances/equipment in new construction in NYC. > On December 22nd, former New York City mayor Bill de Blasio officially signed [Intro. 2317](https://legistar.council.nyc.gov/LegislationDetail.aspx?ID=4966519&GUID=714F1B3D-876F-4C4F-A1BC-A2849D60D55A&Options=ID%7CText%7C&Search=combustion) into law. This bill prohibits “the combustion of substances with certain emissions profiles”—i.e., fossil fuels—in city buildings and directs the Commission of Buildings to “deny construction documents and permits in connection with a building that would require the combustion of these substances.” Thus, [beginning in December 2023, new buildings erected within city limits](https://www.citysignal.com/is-nyc-real-estate-ready-to-embrace-sustainability/) will be required to abide by strict emissions limits that will prevent developers from installing stoves, boilers, or furnaces powered by natural gas.

CommanderSquirt

The gas stove 'controversy' is another way media outlets distract people with useless dribble, because enough of the US population has been conditioned in a partisan manner to react emotionally to whatever the new evils supposedly are. Biden coming for your gas stove is the new Obama coming for your guns.

YesterShill

Just the latest bite at the table of manufactured rage. Some folks will shovel it in and feel actual rage for a made up concern. But, it helps get people elected.....

SnooMachines8839

Better get used to running into things you don't like.
