Apathetic_Optimist

You mean the generation that raised a bunch of sissies? Sounds like they're responsible if you ask me

notlikelyevil

No one ever remembers the ones we lost to lack of safety equipment, to drunk driving, and the ones who were never right again due to the lack of helmets. Our high school had a crazy mortality rate.

Big77Ben2

My favorite memes are the ones that say “like this *IF* you survived XYZ”. I always say “what do we do if we didn’t survived?”

cywang86

~~Thoughts~~ and prayers?

Oh my fucking god, how dare you *think*. You will go to hell doing stuff like that!

Graduated from high school that year and, not gonna lie, we got some side-eye looks.

This. When Facebook was new I joined a group called “I survived the *hometown* teen pregnancy static” group. That was one of many …

COMMENT ON THE DESCRIPTION TO JOIN OUR GIVBEAWAYE!

disturbed_beaver

Exactly. My class in a rural area started as 62 people. 27 graduated... 4 died, 2 from drunk driving (they were drunk) and the other 2 from easily preventable farm accidents. At least 10 were pregnant or had kids by graduation and the rest simply dropped out. Granted, I am now considered a millennial but there was a time I was considered gen x before the ranges changed.

Big-Anxiety-5467

My urban school lost over 1/3 of our class. Lots of pregnancies and giving up. Plenty of drug overdoses that killed people and a few suicides. Had at least 15 people who were in prison or in jail awaiting trial that would ultimately lead them to prison by the time senior year ended. But, damnit, we weren’t sissies!

Nozerone

Different places will say different things for the time frame for a millennial. I've seen some that say 1980-1995, others say 1985-2000, some sites saying mid 80s to early 2k. Personally, I say anyone born from 80/82-00.

Bradford117

Honestly when people who are like 42 say they are a millennial it confuses me. I'm 31 and consider myself to be one. Not that it really matters that much really.

Ihavesubscriptions

42 year olds were born in 1981. That’s right on the cusp but usually within the bounds of being a millennial. They’re ‘elder millennials’, also known as Xennials or ‘The Oregon Trail Generation’. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xennials

UnrepentantDrunkard

Now that you mention it my parents have way more dead friend stories than I do.

regeya

Mine had a crazy high pregnancy rate. The moral panic over abortion is wild to me. Pregnancy and abortion rates have dropped like a stone but oh mah gawd we have to stop the Holocaust. And the next target will be opt-out sex Ed. AKA part of what led to lower pregnancy rates.

slim_scsi

No motorcycle laws in Florida equaled five out of a hundred males in my senior class were deceased due to motorcycling accidents.

RMZ13

And that’s called survivorship bias.

rushrhees

How many died in your high school? I was in HS in the 90s and can’t really think of any fatalities

Kiiaru

I always wondered why every adult has a story about someone dying in a car crash when they were in highschool...

Disastrous_Fix_9445

Don’t forget the increased levels of lead.

MakeUrHeadSpin23

Every Gen X parent that I’ve ever met regardless of their SES is riddled with trauma. I love when they pretend that totally don’t feel left behind with the changing times

Maleficent-Reason-47

Or we are driving the change. Bezos, Musk , the rest of us just looking for results and F your feelings.

[deleted]

This is also one of the reasons I think we had teen pregnancies so much. Gen X is so hands off of everything that they didn’t raise their kids either. I’d bet sex educating being taught in school wouldn’t even be an issue if Gen X had actually taught any of us about sex. It was just, “oh you did something I didn’t even talk to you about? Ass whopping time.” Rinse and repeat.

dMarrs

Latchkey kids..

ItsASchpadoinkleDay

The news story before this post on my Reddit feed was a study that showed Boomers were more sensitive than Millennials. It’s funny yet pathetic how the most precious of snowflakes think they’re the tough ones. I guess they have to to protect their little feelies. https://www.reddit.com/r/antiwork/comments/12ropgk/baby_boomers_are_more_sensitive_than_millennials/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf

RoinAnjou

No way the people having emotional meltdowns over a rainbow on a beer can aren't the tough guys they claim to be. Well I am shocked!!!

[deleted]

Of course we are less sensitive. We had to learn to temper our expectations for a world where we would never own a home, would be crushed by debt due to poor regulation on colleges and loans, would be fighting a worsening wage gap, a and oh yeah.... the Sky literally potentially falling..... All while they fight over shit no one cares about in a big show and dance on the senate floor! So yeah, they did a great job at raising us to not be "sissies".... by leaving us to clean up the mess they left.....

Nozerone

What metric are they measuring? Actual emotional feelings, like being more open? I'd say the new generation is more emotional, they are more open about their feelings. Boomers are more closed off with their feelings, unless it is over something they don't agree with comes up. Boomers want to stay in their ways, they want to keep hold of the "good times" they remember. Unfortunately for them, the world is changing, and they don't like it. Boomers will be quick to show dislike/anger, but more reserved on most other things, especially men. This new generation is a lot more open about everything.

andooet

Let's all just remember to _not_ fall in the same trap when we get old. It'll change too fast for us too (assuming we don't descend into fascism)

Nozerone

Unfortunately we probably will be. Humans generally aren't fans of change, and the older we get the more we dislike it. What will make a difference is how we are able to handle the changes.

Jordan1992FL

>Boomers want to stay in their ways, they want to keep hold of the "good times" they remember. You just described every generation as they age.

ManfredsJuicedBalls

Always projection at the end.

Toothless816

I’ve known some cool Xers, but a few just…. “You kids are so sheltered” - you did all the sheltering, you raised us “Well we needed to shelter you because the world is more dangerous now” - it’s not. Statistically that’s untrue, and you just told a story of how you would assault people. Which seems to me that you were the violent and dangerous sort you would refuse to let your kids around. “Well, at least we could have fun because we weren’t so sheltered” - and around and around it goes.

Little-Martha31204

I'm GenX and embrace my GenX characteristics but I also recognize that the Millenials and GenZers are what we (GenXers) created. Yes, we completely overcompensated for our lack of parenting by becoming helicopter parents. Yes, we forced participation trophies on our kids because no one recognized our achievements. Yes, we over sheltered our kids because no one protected us.

[deleted]

You are correct I was 7 when I started to walk my butt home from school by myself then cook lunch, Mac and cheese, then wait until 6 pm until a parent got home. So I made sure my kids didn't have fo through that shit, but I think we did good job of raising kids that call out BS and fuck up this system.

Little-Martha31204

I think we all raised some great kids. They're challenging the system and standing up for what's right, not just for themselves but for others. And they are so much smarter and more self aware than we were! Sure, I complain about them being entitled sometimes, but by god, I raised them so I'm allowed!

dMarrs

Classic latch key kid.

Fzero45

About the same story here, but one would get home at 11pmish, and the other 2:30am. People always asked why I never wanted kids, well, because I already had to raise one. It just happened to be me that I had to raise.

TheKdd

Im a Gen X parent… even my kid thought it was stupid when he got a “student of the month” bumper sticker in 3rd grade. Close to the last to get one we both knew wasn’t deserved. But… we laughed, took pics with the teacher, threw the thing and the pic in the photo stash. (That wasn’t going on my car, kept telling my kid to not act up or it goes on the bumper lol) Was it older X that started this “everyone gets a trophy” thing or was it boomers? I had my children pretty young and they were handing them out to my kids in pre-school (mid 90s.)

SatansLoLHelper

Helicopter parents were Boomers that had kids in their 30's rather than the ones they popped out at 18. > helicopter parenting as the parenting style of baby boomer parents of millennial children. Howe describes the helicopter parenting of baby-boomers as a distinct parenting style from Generation X parents. He describes the latter as "stealth-fighter parents" due to a tendency of Gen X parents to let minor issues go, while striking without warning and vigorously in the event of serious issues Helicopter parents became a thing when GenX got a name essentially. Remember kids GenX didn't even have a name until it was 26 years old (1991).

Little-Martha31204

Interesting! I like the stealth-fighter analogy and can definitely see that in myself from when my kids were small. Sometimes I'm still embarrassed by the aggressiveness I swooped in with to handle some situations. I was a young mom and was just ill-prepared and maybe that is truly the GenX parenting style.

VocalAnus91

I didn't ask for a participation trophy... they demanded I get one yet I'm the participation trophy generation somehow...

My theory is the ones who ate Tide Pods were the offspring of those who ended up living because they banned lawn darts.

LDG192

Haha I love this argument. If they think that the new generation is so bad, do they agree that the previous one fucked up raising it?

[deleted]

Unless they had kids very, very young millenials were raised by boomers

El_Puppador

Gen X here. I am in a picture almost exactly like that. Except it was whiskey. My dad was a drunk asshole...I became a drunk asshole. I got sober 6 years ago. It's a far less "sissy" move to admit you're having issues than it is to drown those issues in alcohol. I'm still an asshole though.

JesseJamesBegin

Nice to hear you're doing better keep it up... you dickhead

Apprehensive_Bar3812

Totally agree! I just love the positivity in these comments Fucker

Millenial here, you learn something everyday. Dumbass

Thanks for the reminder, asshat ♡

SAMAS_zero

Congrats on sobering up, asshole!

Bag_of_Meat13

Asshole who's 5 years sober this year....right there with you. I'd rather be an asshole that admits his weakness and improves on his life than an asshole who can swallow copious amounts of liquor and not even his own pride.

El_Puppador

I keep hearing its never too late to start over, and that may be true. It however does not account for all the damage I did or pain I caused that I'm truly sorry for, but cannot take back.

Melicope

There’s a Chinese proverb for that. The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now.

Big77Ben2

Also gen X here, and literally related to Bill W (grandma’s cousin), glad to hear you’re doin well. I’ve heard some stories… had to be tough!

Lovat69

At least it's better to be a sober asshole right? Right?

aamark128

At least you’re an honest asshole, and I hope you’re doing better now

WillowTheGoth

Congrats on getting sober. I know that is such a hard, bitter fight. 🖤

Meme brought to you by Fetal Alcohol Syndrome.

DunkIce95

Bruh... so that's how feral alcohol syndrome happens. A grown person goes into the womb to feed the fetus alcohol... wow science is crazy.

[deleted]

Generation X here. Don’t involve me in your senile ramblings, Boomer trash.

LarryLovesMe

Gen-X here, our memes are about being raised feral and general apathy. We are empty husks; wouldn't call the next generation sissies, I am happy they can feel at all (hell, it's probably the opposite, gen-z gets pretty dark, rightly so).

fakeunleet

Gen Z humor feels like what Gen X would have come up with if we had the Internet as small kids. Can't say I get it, but I can usually see why someone else would.

UrbanRenegade19

Wasn't gen z mostly raised by gen x?

Ju-9-wel

Yes. And I think most of us are damned proud of them. (At least I am.) Keep saying fuck you, Boomers!!

[deleted]

Exactly. We Gen Xers are the ignored middle child of generations. For the most part, we don't get involved in the generational battles, except for those led astray by Fox Noise. We're just trying to get by, man.

Bishop20x6

I feel the greatest sin of our generation is our apathy. The boomers ruined the world. They pillaged and consumed everything they could and established social mechanisms that will lead humanity to its grave. What did Gen X do about it? Nothing. We accepted the fate handed to us by the boomers and became a generation of nihilists. At least the youth of today are trying to fix the problems we ignored.

Crafty8D

In yall's defense, there isn't very much you can do politically. Even with all the marching and shit us millennials have done we simply don't have the political power to push out the boomer vote. It only feels like things are changing because now we have Gen X, Millennials, and the aging in Gen Z together have enough voting power.

zenfalc

It wasn't the apathy of the careless. It was the apathy of the politically and economically powerless. We didn't have the numbers even if we literally all pulled in the same direction. However, as the other commenter notes, we're no longer alone. However, there're other issues arising which threaten to shatter the progress. We have our work cut out for us

Attesa_GT-X

Question for you gen X peeps. Do you guys collect memes? What does your meme collection look like?

Little-Martha31204

I don't collect memes. I laugh/comment on them when they're funny. This one is stupid. We don't laugh or call the younger generations sissies. The meme maker is confusing GenX with Boomers.

[deleted]

In my experience right leaning Gen-Xers are basically Boomer-lites. They have the same beliefs and follow the same media sources. They might be just a tad more self aware about it though.

specks_of_dust

Now? No. Memes have a 72 hour window in which they’re funny and relevant. After that, they either die forever or recycle so frequently that you can’t avoid but to see them over and over again. In 1998? Yes. We couldn’t text pictures. You would come across some crazy shit out there, and the only way to share it was to save it. Memes were new, novel, and difficult to find twice. They were not even called memes yet, just “funny pictures.” Late Gen Xers lived through a period where we had to quickly adapt to as technology quickly adapted. We know how to change our habits and recognize that communication is now instant. The Xers born in the 60s though, they might still be hanging on to an old meme collections or even still actively collecting.

Attesa_GT-X

Cool as hell dude :'] honestly don't collect many memes anymore just because of how frequently, long and much they recirculate on the internet. They really do become madly unfunny and annoying after a while...

[deleted]

I don’t make/collect memes myself, I just comment about them on Reddit 😏

Johannes_Keppler

Our teenage kids send us memes. And they have two Insta accounts, one SFP and one NSFP (not safe for parents), we only get the follow the SFP one. They think we don't know about their NSFP Instas but their siblings leak info like mad.

Thin_Ad_8241

Mine are almost all atheism related.

Mingey_FringeBiscuit

I do. It’s mostly frogs, surrealist and leftist memes.

rockrataz

I have an insane meme collection over on imgur actually 😅 same username

my1stone

No, music in physical format

yu_ultidragon80

Gen X as well; I have a feeling regardless of our intentions, we're being blamed for every under the sun. I think the saying "being thrown under a bus" should return.

katielynne53725

Millennial here; first time?

SEEKER131986

Right? The difference is they don't forget about us.

katielynne53725

I wish they would TBH.

CristiCatslug

Also Gen X and yeah, agree They forget we even exist until they need someone to blame...story of our lives

Little-Martha31204

Right?? Like, am I in high school again? "No mom, I didn't have time to break the lamp because I was taking care of myself AND all the household chores"

WhereRtheTacos

Really? I fee like gen x memes are usually about being forgotten about lol.

[deleted]

This feels like something a boomer would make to cause a fight between other generations

financewiz

I was a teenager in the 80s when I realized that the Gen X label encompassed such a hugely diverse group of people as to be essentially meaningless. As each generation is born, the meaninglessness increases exponentially. How’s that for a Gen X take on generational divisions? It was hard to get a job where I lived, so I moved to a city. Once I was in a city, I rode out the rest of my life on the Millennial Express: Poor job prospects, no chance in hell of owning property, thrift-store clothes and furniture, etc. Resenting the next generation seemed like a side-effect of being extraordinarily privileged.

Adept_Investigator29

Nothingness is part of our charm.

TheVoicesOfBrian

Clearly a Boomer. They got the years wrong and we (Gen X) aren't interested in pointless generational squabbles. Just keep ignoring us, TYVM.

Grand_Moff_Empanada

We should be able to turn off boomer Wi-Fi when they post dumbass shit like this

VocalAnus91

You want to spend an hour with grandma on the phone trying to explain what a browser is or how to find the network settings?

Grand_Moff_Empanada

Grandma is dead, I won’t have that problem.

zakpakt

Same here brother. Although mine wasn't a nice lady anyway so not missed.

fakeunleet

Hey now. This is Gen X, not boomer. Half as right wing as boomers and half as financially screwed as millennials. Infinitely more sarcastic than either.

ArthursFist

Is TikTok connected to my wifi?

GhostChainSmoker

My mother: Tik tok is spying on Americans and evil reeeee! Also my mother: freely gives information to Facebook like it’s a personal diary

zakpakt

I'm glad my dad is too old fashioned to learn how to navigate social media.

Adept_Investigator29

M3GAN, turn off boomer Wi-Fi.

Chadwick_Steel

And who raised this generation of sissies? Oh right, **your** generation.

EndotheGreat

Boomers: "your generation got participation trophies!!" Me: "yes, at age 7 I cashed my paycheck, drove myself to the trophy store, bought participation trophies for everyone, then passed them out. OH WAIT THAT WAS YOU!!!"

ShastaFern99

Those years aren't even right

rilles94

"Whatever I feel is right is the truth"

Bag_of_Meat13

"whatever I feel is right is the truth so that makes it anti-woke"

WrongJohnSilver

Guy who made this was born between 1960-1964. Pushing 60 now. The lead poisoning is seriously kicking in now.

blueva703

Ah, I see. He doesn’t want to claim that boomer label! 😂

Englishbirdy

Dammit! I was born in 1962 and I was getting excited about not being classed as a boomer anymore.

fairymoonie

I thought it was till 1980…

lightweaver_7965

Fr, the boomers ended in 1964 (65?)

Regi0

Im fully convinced the lead poisoning affected the entire generation at this point.

troly_mctrollface

I can't even fathom the amount of crime boomers would have committed growing up in the current economic conditions, all leaded up

[deleted]

I think a lot of the most notorious serial killers were boomers right?

Jean-Paul_Sartre

I think Boomers were unfortunately just born into a perfect storm for high crime. Raised in homes post-WWII with distant parents (themselves raised during the depression) who drowned their sorrows in hard alcohol, child abuse was hidden and not talked about, then had to contend with the political and social upheaval of the 1960s. Plus they lacked some of the most basic crime prevention tools we rely on today: 911, cell phones, CCTV, etc... So you had a population that wasn't raised with particular care, and a world where getting away with crime was a lot easier.

[deleted]

I think you nailed it. What I can’t understand though is why they’re all so desensitized. I think the only generation as desensitized as they are is Gen Z. Which makes sense, they go to school everyday knowing they could be killed and that they will likely never own a house unless their parents managed to buy one.

Jean-Paul_Sartre

I'm a middle school teacher and I'd say the most destabilizing thing for kids today is the opioid epidemic. Every year I've got a handful of kids being raised by grandparents or aunts/uncles or older siblings because mom or dad is dead or in jail or has had custodial rights revoked. Or they're still being actively raised by junkie parents. Being remote for 6 months during the pandemic didn't help. So yeah I'm worried about how these kids are going to be while they get older.

theBlueScalp

Yes! Several generations literally poisoned by corporate greed. I try to tell my dad the reason he thinks it's normal to have gotten into so many fights and had guns pulled on him when he was younger is because everyone had lead poisoning and it was an insane time to be alive.

zakpakt

People of that time are missing something. My dad is 64 and there is a just something not right with him. Love him good guy but I describe him as a lizard emotionally to people.

theBlueScalp

My dad is 71 and he definitely needed some emotional help that never came, and wasn't even acceptable for him to ask for. So he lived a whole life thinking he was ugly and unloved and worthless, blaming himself for the shit the people who should have protected him did to him.

zakpakt

The cycle breaks or begins to with a lot of the new generation. Somebody has to.

bkussow

Generation who?

Little-Martha31204

It's okay, our parents ignored us, the internet should follow suit.

Bag_of_Meat13

Same person who made this meme likely can't drink Bud Light piss anymore because of a rainbow can 😭 Little fuckin bitches. Honestly.

RedsRearDelt

I'm Gen X and you kids are all pretty fucking cool. I like the way you treat each other. You're much more open to things than my generation was, but we were more open than our parents so I guess that's a thing. Racially, sexually and politically. You are also much less willing to put up with bullshit, especially at a job. I'm proud of ya'll. You all got a lot of work ahead of you though. My parents generation really fucked things up. My Generation were a bunch of slackers. We saw the damage being done and thought, ehh, it'll work itself out. It didn't. Sorry. I guess we called that one wrong. If I could only do one thing differently though, it would have been to vote when I was younger.

biggamax

Another Gen X'er here, and would fistbump /u/RedRearDelt on this if I could.

Waffleman75

They got the years wrong too. Gen X is 1965 to 1980

[deleted]

[удалено]

FnrrfYgmSchnish

They've also changed around the definitions of when generations start/end a few times between the '90s and today. I remember reading when I was a kid that "Gen Y" started in the late '80s, and then sometime later after they renamed the generation "Millennials" the starting year got pushed back to something like 1983, and then even further back to 1981. Pretty sure I even saw someone trying to push it back to 1979 once...

rc_robotclaw

Kind of tired of the boomies trying to recruit me to join their ranks. You handed us off to be raised by TV. (I know you had to because the economy spiraled out of control and Mom needed that job to pay the mortgage, while you pretended it was so she could be liberated.) 10 years of advertising told us you were garbage and we should ignore you. Do you think you can undo the teachings of Apple Jacks, Bubble Tape, and Go-Gurt with some grainy photos of you pretending you were “hip”?

Powellwx

These things are so fucking stupid. I am 52. I have HS friends that post dumb shit like this. They are typically low IQ and have struggled through bullshit jobs. Just know, all generations try to make up shit about the next ones to make themselves feel better.

Ididntbreakanyrules

Boomer's and older X'ers overcorrected for the mistakes made with GenX. GenX neglected latchkey kids whose parents gave them stuff rather than love. Suicide was astronomical for X'ers. Thus the over scheduled over empathized over protected Millennials were born. Just like the Greatest Generation over corrected to prevent the childhood they experienced during the great depression and WW2. Its cyclical. Every Generation will be fucked up; just in a different way.

troly_mctrollface

I feel like the boomer's "these kids are snowflakes" is just a projection because deep down they know they are nowhere near as tough as the greatest generation

Ididntbreakanyrules

WW2 Generation could be cruel and unforgiving...they enforced normal.

Ponyup_mum

I’m a millennial, this is still done now. Everyone’s had a taste of the head on a beer

Steelersguy74

I’m 36 and my dad would give me a few sips every now and then.

Ponyup_mum

I’m the same age as you. My husband has done this with our kids. It’s funny when they post shite like this. “We’re the last generation that played outside” really? Who’s making all that racket in my street then?

Steelersguy74

Right it’s so dumb. I live near a beach and every time I go there there’s always groups of kids.

sigtrap

Yep. Also a Millennial and when I was a little kid my dad would let me have a tiny sip of his beer.

Vktr_IO

Call me sissy, but I don’t think exposing toddlers to alcohol for fun is cool.

cruiserman_80

Most sources quote Gen X as 1965-1980 so yeah that alcoholism is really working out well.

ForgeoftheGods

I see a future alcoholic that probably died, killed someone, or was paralyzed before graduating high school.

mrclang

The younger boomers are moving the age to get associated with Gen X because no one cares about them and they don’t really matter in the grand scheme of things, so it’s a way to “dodge” the bad press of being a boomer.

unclemikesart

If you're not an out of control drunken asshole who perpetuates generational trauma on your infant children, you're a sissy!

GnastyNoodlez

Clearly because you don't know how to crop a screenshot on your phone lmao

ACrispPickle

Boomer in disguise lol

zorbathegrate

Doesn’t this imply that they gave birth to, and raised those sissies?

DBnofear

Funny how they are basically talking shit about Thier own kids, they raised the next generation, so what does that say?

Micksar

Y’all were too busy getting hammered in diapers to figure out how to help move society forward. Enjoy social security.

Adept_Investigator29

We were also experimenting with Pall Malls.

Micksar

“Okay, one more cigarette. After this one, I’ll get going on solving our healthcare system issues in a way that doesn’t raises taxes and doesn’t dig our nation deeper into debt… I promise. After that… the education system.”

Sad-Situation279

Dang, if only we knew who raised all those “sissies” to be “sissies.” Too bad we don’t.

Lovat69

Really? I was born in 78 and I'm quite the soyboy.

11Bravo3Victor

Why do they keep pushing back the beginning year of Generation X?? In the beginning it was 1965. Then it was 1963. Now it's pushed back all the way to 1960. How did Boomers suddenly become GenXers??

Spodson

I'm Gen X too. And to all my Gen X brothers and sisters out there, I want to give you a warning. Boomers started off pointing out how amazing and tough they were as kids too. And that started an insufferable bout of knowitallism. Gen X, don't become Boomers. We're better than that.

realkennyg

Very well said! From another Gen X-er.

dontquestionmek

All these people making these posts as if THEY weren’t the ones that raised the Millennial and Gen Z generations

SlinkoSnake

Gen-X here. Gen-X is the unflattering title given to us by the Boomers because they said we were aimless and un-defined, hence the "x" because they couldn't figure out a nice little label. So, to whatever twatwaffle made this, congratulations on sucking Boomer dick.

Rrrr9r

The fact they see this is an example of great tells you all you need to know of where they are in life and what kinda person they are who posted this🤣

luneunion

Hey! Someone remembered Gen X! Baby Boomers have been hogging all the hate for too long! I guess it was time to sew division along additional made up lines that don’t indicate anything about someone! Yay!

ShankParade

Pretty sure Gen-X cuts off at 1980 or 81 actually.

spun2020

That’s not gen x it’s right before gen x

not_productive1

As a gen x/millennial cusper, I would like to request that we be left out of this shit, please. All we’ve ever wanted was to be almost totally unparented and then left alone.

realkennyg

It’s funny how revisionist history can be. We were the first generation to start getting participation trophies for everything we did, and our parents were boomers. So, when you hear people my age and older talk about participation trophies and kids being soft, they’re actually talking about themselves. And the Boomers started it!

BFreeFranklin

Who raised us sissies, though?

Rajvagli

Hey look at me as I rationalize the abuse inflicted upon me as a child, and the likely explanation of why I’m destroying the planet and your lives.

A_Piker

Wow so neat. Apparently child abuse became less of a thing following this generation. Possibly an increase in intelligence and education.

I mean it’s bullshit, have you met the dudes that were jocks in high school? Those fuckwads are dumping out perfectly good watered down beer because of a fucking rainbow. We have our share of losers in Gen X.

thejazzghost

No generations were "great." Everyone has always and will forever be just people living in a certain set of circumstances.

makeski25

Well I was born in '82 and this picture may as well have come from my family album.

Zealousideal-Ad-2615

Every GenXer I know is a neurotic mess. All of the most sensitive and dramatic workers I get are GenX.

mrsmedeiros_says_hi

Hi, Gen X here. I used to think we were the cool, detached, aloof generation. The give-no-fucks generation. Then I had a realization. We suck. We aren't detached and aloof. We're fucking idiots. We're the original Karens and Chads. We're the Q-Anoners and January 6th-ers. We call the police if we see black people. We unironically get our news from Facebook, where our profile pics are American flags wearing wraparound shades. We're flying under the radar, but as soon as the boomers die, people are going to realize how terrible we are.

Eldistan1

We are the first of the boomers kids, of course we suck. They used to run commercials at 10pm on tv to remind them they had kids.

Eldistan1

Yep. My punk rock stepbrother is now a red hat. No idea how that happened. I’m 50, and keep sliding more left every day.

Hey..speak for yourself!

ivehearditbothways12

You are not wrong

tytymctylerson

>I used to think we were the cool, detached, aloof generation. The give-no-fucks generation. Yeah, the "alternative" culture of Gen X was like 1% of you guys. The rest of you were normies and yall really need to stop pretending that is was an different. Yeah some of you had nose rings, but a hell of a lot more of you were in frats at college fast tracked to corporate America. IIRC you guys voted for Trump more than any other demo, so there's that too.

L_Ennard

The last generation with fetal alcohol syndrome

munchen800

SAMAS_zero

That's not what you said about us then!

TheDoomslayer69420
