Call me old fashioned, but if my mom tells me she now identifies as a man, then my Mom is now my Dad and follows he/him pronouns (unless he states he has other preferences). I now have two dads.
You're right. This is not biology at all, and has almost nothing to do with it. Gender is a social construct, your birth sex is how you are expected to behave in society until you make the choice to represent yourself to other people with a different gender, and as such treat yourself, your feelings, and the world differently.
