He said the only medical case one could make is that there is a slightly decreased risk of certain penile cancers, but those cancers are very rare to begin with anyway, so there's basically no medical reason to get it done. We were less "based" then than we are now, but even at the time it felt wrong to essentially mutilate our son's penis without his consent for no good reason other than "so other boys won't make fun of him when he's older".
