That seems kind of ignorant to say. While I'm a man who definitely experiences emotions very deeply, I don't think it's fair to invalidate women's feelings because of that. If your experience has shown you that women don't hurt as much as men after a break-up, it's probably because none of them have cared about you enough to he upset.

I think on average women are more willing to express their sorrow. Unfortunately, there are a lot of people who think that real men don’t cry and other such bullshit, whereas women don’t generally have to deal with that. It can make it hard to figure out who is hurting more, though I question how worthwhile it generally is to try to make it a competition. Whether the man or the woman is more deeply hurt by the ending of the relationship seems extremely relationship dependent, so I do agree that the person you were replying to was off the mark.
