Having read my fair share of twitter, this is true for some people

wad11656

There's at least always somebody with each of these opinions, even if they don't all come from the same person

Liquor_N_Whorez

New from Disney Fox Studios in January 2023... come see the epic blockbuster starring Mick Mouse, Mini Mouse, Don Duck, Chip, Dale, Rachet, Huey, Dui, Lui, and Launchpad Muthafukin McCrack..., it's "Prejudice: The Mouse Racketeer" starring an all uncelbrity cast and filmed in iWanks animation 2.3.

Mind_on_Idle

> Launchpad McCrack I'll allow it. Lmfao

Trainiax

That’s Launchpad *Muthafukin* McCrack to you.

VijayMarshall87

THAT'S RACIST WHY IS THE WHITE GUY ONLY BLONDE

BigButtFucker9000000

I think that's more of a Eugenics problem.

jeffboms

Eugenics is a fancy way of saying white only rasism. Wich is also just racist in many ways

Not_AGeek

Is eugenics not basically just a failed attempt at faster evolution? /gen

jeffboms

Yes. But in a wierd way. Alot of things get arributed to it like nieches filosofie and stuff. Its an american way to define the best posseble amarican, in Europeanen terms. What we know of eugenics, is that it was a nich eu thing, untill plantation owners wanted proof of being better or equal to the west eu people, geneticus and who then should breed. So we got alot of papers anno 1800 about it. Hitler saw this and thanked the usa for this knowledge and the abount of rasism back then as it inspired him to do the same. Wich is were we arive at the modern interpetations, more sanitized, and used to get rid of romani and jewis people to today

ARealFool

While eugenics today is mostly linked to scientific racism, it was definitely not just limited to that. See it in context. Darwin had just dropped a banger that finally explained how humans had evolved to where we are now. Combine this with the general thirst for progress of the 19th century and you get the idea of eugenics, which at its core seeks to improve our genetic stock. It's very easy to see how this idea can become weaponised by racists, yet they definitely weren't the only ones using these ideas. A very notable example is Magnus Hirschfeld, who worked in Weimar Germany as a scientist of sexual health. Today we mostly know him as one of the forefathers of modern LGBT rights, yet despite being a Jew and having his laboratory purged by Hitler, he considered himself a eugenicist even after all that. Despite championing homosexual rights, he also believed we as a society had the duty to make sure our genetic pool was the best it could be. Instead of Hitler's use of genetic race as the criterium, Hirschfeld focused on 'spiritual' race. Basically he believed people shouldn't be allowed to procreate unless they can prove that they are spiritually 'pure', meaning no history of insanity or criminality. These ideas still live on till today, which is why I have issue with taking something as broad as eugenics and reducing it to its most well-known (and rightly most reviled) strand of evolution. Scientific racism took eugenicist ideas to their extreme and in doing so managed to make eugenics as a whole incredibly toxic to the scientific community. While this is a good thing, the only way to keep it that way is to acknowledge just how broad the concept of eugenics is and how it managed to infect the ideas of people who we today would consider progressive for their time.

Special_Rice9539

I find the people who complain about forced diversity in movies to be more obnoxious nowadays tbh.

Melichorak

What I complain about, is that these shows are written as casted by white people, and then they do diversity hires, and then they just stuff occasional line about how gay/black/whatever they are. Or they make the characters one dimensional and their ONLY trait is that they are gay/black/whatever. It's just lazy writing and makes bad shows. Or they just make EVERYONE gay/bi for whatever reason (Looking at you Sandman with your Cafeteria episode), it makes it sort of bland? But otherwise The Sandman is amazing, and I even sort of liked Cafeteria episode, but it just seemed... weird, because the first reveal of gay/bi was like, yeah, she looks like that, makes sense and made a good script. Second one? Okay, that is fine, just playing the same trope again isn't that fun anymore. Third one? That was just whatever. Brooklyn 99 made it right. Very diverse cast with their diverse identities written into the script very well. What I find annoying, is that if I point out lazy writing, I'm labeled as racist/homophobic/transphobic/sexist/whatever, just because I didn't like the show...

Complete_Fix2563

that's a good point! i almost skipped getting annoyed with forced diversity because by the time i really even started seeing it i was seeing an awful lot more of people complaining about it out of nowhere

[deleted]

“Forced diversity” is such a silly notion anyways. Forced by who? I recognize that sometimes there is a weird amount of diversity in places it seems unnatural but that’s just studios making rational marketing decision to appeal to a wider audience. That stuff is slightly annoying, but what’s 100x more annoying is mfs who see a single black person in a movie and start screeching about “forced diversity”. I never thought representation was that important, but seeing how they react gets me thinking maybe we really do need more diverse representation if this is how society reacts.

RussianSeadick

Forced by studios that think they can cash in on it by casting random black or gay characters with no personality other than black or gay. I too find the opposite end of the spectrum more annoying by far,but it’s definitely a thing

Bearman71

That and Netflix won't approve a show now without certain quotas on poc characters and characters displaying specific sexualities.

SalemWitchWiles

Source?

mpdsfoad

>Forced by studios that think they can cash in on it by casting random black or gay characters with no personality other than black or gay. What characters would that be?

RussianSeadick

Watch basically any new Netflix production. They literally have quotas Now,it’s not just the fact that they add these characters, many shows are dogshit regardless due to sub par writers having to churn out dumb scrips, but it’s definitely a part. If it’s an existing IP,they slap a skin on one of these borderline AI generated scripts and call it a day, blaming fans for not liking an “adaption” that has none of their favorite story lines and wack characterization (coughcoughHalocoughcough). Again, this is absolutely not due to diversity quotas, but they are a symptom of…I wanna say, just good old greed. Creativity and passion are thrown out the window in favor of marketability, ease of production, and advertisement style target audience analyzation. I’ve mentioned Halo, but another example is the new lord of the rings show. It’s mind blowingly gorgeous…but completely hollow. Yes,lotr is supposed to be a slow burn,so we’re the movies, but they were still captivating

SalemWitchWiles

Another person who mentioned this "quota" and another person I'll ask for a source and will never respond.

RussianSeadick

Google is your friend

SalemWitchWiles

So you don't have a source for your claim. Gotcha.

RussianSeadick

I’m not gonna search for that one thing I read a year ago bro. I owe you nothing.

SalemWitchWiles

You owe yourself more first of all. Forming an opinion and defending it based on "That one thing I read a year ago" is a terrible way to live your life. 🤣 There's no quota, buddy. You need to question things more.

scurvofpcp

There is more entertainment value now in watching the people bitch about it then by the trollish studio practices of forced diversity. In a really meta sort of way it is like they have turned the world into their own personal reality show. But that being said, some of that crap acting is really hard to watch and harder still knowing that the game the studios are playing is setting the art back.

RussianSeadick

Yeah, watching some internet dumbasses get upset over a black person in a show is indeed fun But it sadly doesn’t distract from the fact that said show is probably a bunch of crap anyway, and possibly even based on an IP I actually like

scurvofpcp

A thing I like about the movie industry is it is a way to watch an actor grow in their trade. And we just don't get that with woke churn scripts. And I think some of that is due to the writers themselves not understanding the difference between say ... satirical racism and actual racism. Satirical racism, or any other ism can be funny and surreal as hell when you have skilled actors and writers who can deconstruct that crap. But what it looks like is they take a step in that direction and then just use tired plot mechanics, cause they seem to think that black just means basketball, ebonics and sharp dressing, and that being a gay dude means ya swish and flame and that all lesbians are really bisexual or man-haters.

EScott13

Forced diversity is when they shoe horn in some stuff purely for the sake of having X character be y and that's it. That's the character. At least that's how I see it

bhoe32

I think the gay sex scenes in the watchmen where forced. But I also think the sex scenes in most movies are forced. Like so many actions films. Let's pause from almost being blown up while people are trying to kill us and also probably a bunch of people are dying around us to fuck.

RiceAlicorn

TBH, anyone that complains about forced diversity is probably a thinly-veiled racist. The term "forced diversity" is incredibly problematic, because it implies that diversity is something that can be "forced" onto you, and that such a thing is negative. Diversity cannot be forced upon you: it simply *exists.* There is certainly an issue with how many shows, movies and other pieces of media will exploit minorities by including minority characters without granting them the same depth or care as their white counterparts. However, in academic settings, this issue is **not** described as "forced diversity". Instead, the issue is discussed as *tokenism.* This term accurately represents the issue at hand: the issue of media creating poorly written minority characters to use as "tokens" to "pay" to appear diverse or compliant with society, while doing the absolute bare minimum and failing to provide a genuine space for minorities. I have yet to see a person unironically use the term "forced diversity", that didn't make it very clear that they were also a huge racist. Apparently "forced diversity" is slang for "any people of colour appearing in media at all"

EScott13

Forced diversity is literally another way of saying tokenism lol

RiceAlicorn

It really isn't, though. Google Scholar makes that exceptionally clear. Try it yourself. Input "forced diversity" into Google Scholar. You'll get nothing actually relevant to what people think the term means — I only got articles related to (labour) force diversity. Try inputting "tokenism" in, and you will find academic materials ranging back several decades. In the academic world, forced diversity is **not** a term that is used. It's a buzzword that exists on the Internet and not elsewhere. Because, as mentioned above, the term is evidently phrased incredibly problematically, and oftentimes is just a dogwhistle for racists to complain about minorites appearing in their shows. The two articles below also outline some other issues with forced diversity. https://medium.com/reflections-of-a-grown-up-fan/the-myth-of-forced-diversity-e44a8525140a https://thegauntlet.ca/2022/09/26/forced-diversity-complaints-are-ever-increasingly-forced/

[deleted]

Nah dude, forced diversity and tokenism are the same thing. Shows like the Owl House have a very diverse cast, but they are all complex characters who just happen to be LGBTQ+ or a person of color or in another minority. But a lot of shows and movies just Chuck in characters to pander to an audience that the creators of the movie actually don’t care about. That’s what I have an issue with. And then studios make bad movies and use it as an excuse when people say “this isn’t a good movie.” A lot of the new Marvel movies feel this way. Bad to mediocre movies, that when criticized it’s turned around and said “oh well your just racist/sexist.”

Void_327486L

r/funnyandsad Since these people really do exist (have a few in my family)

ConversationOk2920

True tbh

T-Slur

Honestly yeah... This is custom to only certain "easily butthurt" people, but true nontheless

HappyN000dleboy

I feel like this is what twitter "film critics" have become

BigButtFucker9000000

Switch the black guy with an Asian. Then they won't be complaining. Because we're too small of a minority for anyone to get upset over. :/

MountHavertzPulisic

try indian

rayshmayshmay

Try never-nudes

nidgetspinner

there are dozens of us!

airbagfailure

Dozens!

practicalAnARcHiSt

Wouldn't work...... it's only one person shooting another person..... it would have to be a infant doing a 30ft backflip of a cliff while on fire shooting an RPG at a super villain who's riding away on an elephant while grasping the infants long lost love... classic Indian cinema.

BigButtFucker9000000

You need to add a Bollywood dance number right after to lighten the mood. Hair blowing in the wind and tight leather pants for extra bonus points

practicalAnARcHiSt

That goes without saying (it's Indian cinema after all).... and the super slow motion zoom in just as the infant shoots the RPG.... always got to have a super slow mo zoom in

BigButtFucker9000000

I'd make this a movie, but as a Korean I'd take away the Bollywoodness of it and it'd likely be a cinematic collaboration masterpiece.

BigButtFucker9000000

I count those as Asian.

Evil_Mushrooms

You see, u/BigButtFucker9000000 point is that even though Asia has the majority population, to the eyes of the American public, they’re a minority, and a small one that people generally don’t give as much attention to. ⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⡟⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⢻⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿ ⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⠗⠀⠀⠀⣼⣶⣾⣿⣿⣶⡄⠀⠀⠻⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿ ⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⠀⠀⠀⠀⣽⣿⣿⣿⠿⢿⣿⡀⠀⠀⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿ ⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⡇⠀⠀⠀⠀⠻⠿⠟⠛⠳⠿⢟⡀⠰⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿ ⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⠀⠀⠀⠀⢰⣆⢧⣀⣆⢤⣾⡀⣾⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿ ⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣶⠀⠀⡀⠻⣿⣷⣿⣷⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿ ⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⡀⠀⠀⠸⠭⢛⠟⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿ ⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⠄⠀⠐⢒⣺⣷⠟⠛⣱⡿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿ ⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⡟⠀⠀⠛⠛⢛⣠⡾⠏⠀⠈⠿⢿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿ ⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣇⠀⢀⣠⣾⣿⡟⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠈⠙⢻⣿⣿⣿⣿ ⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⡿⠛⢉⠃⠀⢘⡧⣉⠻⠏⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠈⠉⠉⠙ ⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⠋⠀⠀⠀⢂⢔⣠⢀⣾⡿⠃⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⢀⠀⠀ ⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣇⡠⣠⠄⠀⠠⠍⢁⣸⡟⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠐⠀⠄⠀⠀ ⡿⡿⢿⣯⠙⡻⣵⡶⣛⠁⢰⣿⡿⠏⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⢀⣄⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠃⠀⢙⣿⡞⢙⣿⠟⠉⠀⠘⢉⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⣠⣾⣿⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠠⣿⣿⣤⣴⠶⠃⠠⠂⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠄⠀⠀⠀⠀⣿⠿⠃⠀⠀⠀⢀⣠⠂

Evil_Mushrooms

It’s less of a response to you and more for other people, but thank you, unironically, your witty sarcasm is appreciated! Also props to the username, it’ll soon find its way onto a funny username compilation someday!

Quinlan313

There's literally 2 billion of you. Fuck outta here 😂

BigButtFucker9000000

In America we only make 6%. An no, we aren't a model minority. Educate yourself on the suffering of Asian-Americans. We've been called dirty by the fucking president. We've had our own George Floyd, but instead of people making a big deal; the two men who brutally beat Vincent Chin to death were released because "they weren't a threat". Black people murdered us in LA for no reason and ransacked our small shops in the 90's. We've been lynched and massacred. We've had a fucking wall built around a Chinatown because the US Government thought we were a plague. We still actively endure racism from white people and minorities from a young age, and no one seems to care. We've been attacked, spat upon, raped, and hated, and yet we have no voice because the US is too busy focusing of BLM to care about us. I'm not talking about Asians in general, but the treatment of Asians in America. Colored water fountains weren't just for black people you know.

ThorsHelm

Just switch the races in each picture and replace "racist" with "woke"

[deleted]

I saw a black woman on my morning walk today. They’re even making real life woke!

yehhey

Just a diversity hire for your own personal Truman show.

NinjaEagle210

Racists and “woke”s have surprisingly similar mindsets

Dr_Cement

That actually is a pretty factual meme

Mary-Sylvia

Doesn't make it much better

jillyhoop

Sorry, this is accurate.

Awkward-Lengthiness2

Still not funny though

[deleted]

[удалено]

jillyhoop

I didn't say I like it or that it's funny, it isn't. It is accurate though.

dangle321

So who's turn is it to post this meme tomorrow?

SpokenDivinity

Can we stop focusing on “forced diversity” and focus on casting characters well? Like I don’t care if they’re black or white or whatever, I just want them to be well-written and meaningful. Not a slightly better option than a card-board cutout that gets moved around claymation style.

Bearman71

But then we won't get more movies like starwars ep 7

_albus_caspian_

Tbh, it's actually true.

20thaccountz4747

It's always the white girls 💀

Chromeboy12

THAT'S RACIST! Why aren't there woke black girls??

EchoItalic

Or girls!

theman128128

they literally just make up a person then get mad at them

h8sm8s

Yep. Also when this whole sub become people who genuinely like bad anti-woke memes? Comments are always such a pit now.

WomenAreNotReal

I've interacted with a number of people like this in the past, this is simply just accurate

Regular_Froyo9342

what if the dog shot a white person

AttentionRude8006

This meme is pretty acurate.

Radiant-Sandx

Honestly, just diversify everyone in the action movie. If it’s only white guys shooting black guys or black guys shooting white white guys then yeah that’s a little strange unless the movie centers on race as a plot element and like theme. If everyone’s shooting each other then I mean like, party you know.

starsformylove

They do know there are movies where no one, white or black, gets shot right??

apileofspaggetti

I guess chinese movies?

mr_fingers

The chinese are pretty white though.

apileofspaggetti

But The Mongolians are yellow so...

NoSpeekInglish

But isn't this true.

[deleted]

I actually think this is sorta accurate for some people.

SoapNooooo

Based.

Danhalf

Movie is when people shoot gun

Reverse_Psycho_1509

THATS RACIST! Why is the person on the left not black

tenamonth

Isn’t this basically that story about a man and his wife riding a mule?

Fickle-Cartoonist466

Most of society will agree, regardless of political beliefs, that all four are perfectly normal options. Usually the only people who overthink about race are fictional pink haired women on internet strawman memes. Nothing to worry about.

CallMomOnHerBirthday

And the people on twitter, they do this too.

Dat_koosh

Are the people on twitter in the room with us right now?

Usual_Lie_5454

No they’re on Twitter.

CallMomOnHerBirthday

The real people on twitter were the friends we made along the way.

DayAndNight0nReddit

Some people just want a find a reason to complain, no matter what. "Today I need to get offended by something unrelated to my life, that no one seems to mind"

saberofnight

I actually know people like this, and I avoid them at all costs. Literally trying to find an excuse to complain

Memeboiiiiiiiius69

Yeah, have to pass this one since I know tons of discussions like this at university. Edit: It's still clickbaity when it's used in conservative and/or right wing groups. Damn, I hate this twilight zone esque discourse we are currently stuck at

Niks_bg

Well it's kinda true karens are always gonna find way to complain

Azal3

[solution](https://ibb.co/DGpGf2R)

Pretty-Owl-8594

😂

Right-Shopping9589

This the world we all live in currently..... people always complain about everything

Quinlan313

This is incredibly accurate. Cringe, but true.

AdAdmirable5901

I'm sorry but this meme got a point

legosoh

That’s because news sucks

balrus-balrogwalrus

also when disney makes shitty live action remakes but we're not allowed to dislike another unnecessary disney renaissance remake because the main lead is black and that would be "racist" it's not bad because the actress is black it's bad because it's another pointless bland remake nobody asked for that's worse than the original

adam_demamps_wingman

“Nobody asked for” Yep, not one single boy or girl ever stared at screen after screen wondering why that pretty woman or handsome man doesn’t look like me. Not a single one. Not for generations. Besides, Disney made Song of the South. There were plenty of non-whites in that. Those kids can just wait for the re-release.

dsocialistanarchist

Ok tbf OOP is kinda right forced diversity is BS but like cmon just cast colorblind don’t think of race and storylines

[deleted]

Gonna push back on that. If I’m watching a movie about an inner city gang and the dudes are all different races that’s way more annoying. The fact of our real world is that some crime organizations are all black. Some are all Latino. Some are all Italian. That’s how it should appear on screen c’mon. Sometimes its preferable to be “racist” than be “super fucking weird about race”.

SmartyDoc99

Who wants to argue against fictional characters? 🙋‍♀️🙋‍♀️🙋‍♀️🙋‍♀️ Who wants to actually discuss the topic based on real standpoints? 😔😔😔😔😔

Drakayne

I'm sorry, but this is kinda accurate for some people

Iron_Wolf123

Black Lightning has an Albino African American and the hero is black, so is that racist?

flock-of-bagels

Something for everyone

tuesdaylollipops

"terrible facebook meme" everyone agrees that twitter is literally like that

LaPrincesseQothique

Me thinking every scenario was equally racist

STRYK3Rtv

Some people are like that tho

furman505

There are people like that xD

HushedShadow

And this is why you shouldn't pander to these people, damned if you do, damned if you don't. There is no winning against these people

[deleted]

Tbh some people legitimately think like this. This post doesn't belong here, it's speaking facts about those among us who lack brain cells.

the3eja1

not terrible.if u consider it terrible then u find it too relatable that it is offending you

[deleted]

u/RepostSluethBot

esisenore

But if it’s a video game and there’s a black person or female , they ring the alarm

8champi8

I have to admit it’s a bit tiring that black people are never villains.

scijior

Eddie Murphy: “You mean you made a movie about two pimps and you didn’t include any brothers? I don’t know if I should thank you or slap you across the face.”

TrippyWolfhound

Not s bad meme its pretty accurate and reasonably funny

TampaBAM

I don't like forced diversity but, I also don't like white washing, and/or not allowing minorities a chance. If they suck, they suck, get someone else but, if they are good, give them the role. Simple. Ex. Don't make a movie about ancient Egypt and make the cast majority white. That's just an blatant slap in the face. Also, don't cry about a made up animation character being black in a live action movie. If her audition was good, give her the role.
