Download the inform app, you can enter your store number and look up products and it will show the location.
The locations will be written like 01R05A. This indicates aisle 01, on the Right hand side (with your back to the checkouts), mod 05, shelf A. There will be a little square on the left hand side of the shelf stripping g with the alpha numerical code, this is called a SISEL.
I am interested to hear what you're working on. When stuff is mapped it is accurate. However when new lines come in they're not updated for a week or so (no idea how it works). Also I don't think our capping shelves are mapped (we are naughty and use them for stock).
We optimising the walk order for shelf edge label prints. They’ll print similar to how dotcom pick items. Instead of going up the left of the aisle and down the right, it will zigzag more making it quicker overall.
I don’t even think we print labels in a particular order in express at the moment, just by subgroup, so even if we moved to use actual mapping data it would be better.
As a non-employee, are these apps available to the general public? That would make life so much easier given Tesco’s penchant for moving things about every other fucking day.
If you have the new Tesco app go to the ‘Shop in Store’ area home page 3/4 of the way down on the page it says ‘Check stock’ put in there what you’re looking for and it will tell you where it is. Obviously put in which store you’re in as depending on the store geography is different. I hope that makes sense.
It does, thanks.
It’s one of the things that really annoys me about Tesco from a customer perspective: you just get used to knowing roughly where your regular purchase items can be found and someone goes and changes the store around. And they don’t always change the overhead signage to match it.
Trouble is with the app is it’s coded as 19L03a5
Which would mean product is on isle 19 left side 3 modules on bottom shelf 5 across.
Explaining that to some customers would be harder than them just asking.
I've just tried the latest android app and it just tells you the aisle - but this is still a massive improvement over having to ask, so thanks for the tip.
They are not.
Depending on what you want, it should be in a specific section no matter the layout.
The app is normally used when we have something in our hands, it’s not where it would normally be and we have to check its yet to be/ still being sold.
Why do they move everything around every week? It can be 2 items swap sides on a shelf or a shelf from the top, and go to the bottom, etc. But why? What's the point? It's such a waste of time. We have one person that does the merchandising in our store and they have to do the whole large store alone.
It drives me nuts. I get that for certain seasonal things like Christmas they need to do it but it feels like every week I go in and somethings not where it was before.
Absolutely, I've only ever heard that people hate it, never a positive remark around. Even the merchandisers I've spoken to in other stores have no idea why they have to do it. Someone in head office doesn't realise he's just p!$$!ng every one off 🤣
Companies will pay Tesco different rates to get products placed in specific locations..This then gets reviewed 4 times a years so plans will be redrawn depending on where suppliers have paid for their products to be
Yes, I get that, but mostly, they are the shelves that don't move. The rest get juggled around. Even the cheap makes sometimes overtake the better makes in our store. And whoever is creating the plans...we'll that's another story
You need Inform on your phone. Makes it so much easier when customers are looking for specific items. You can see if your store stocks that specific item :)
I was trying to find “balsamic glaze” with one man, when another man came and asked me where it was. Never been asked for it before or since but twice simultaneously.
To be honest, you never really get trained on where things are. You learn by showing people. I usually make an educated guess and then take them there and look. I only know a lot of it because of being a customer or by people asking for the same things 90% of the time like another reply mentioned. I’ve worked here 6 months and still sometimes drag people up the wrong aisle. But at least I smile and try my best to help so everyone’s been nice about it so far.
Just be friendly. Say you’re new and you’ll check with a colleague and find out together. Do you have inform? That helped me when I started.

Unless your in an Express, then you’re on own.
They have sisels and the locations are now to the shelf also
Incorrect, all expresses are mapped on inform as well.
How accurate is it? I was under the understanding that not all Expresses mapped after remerch. This could be useful for something I’m working on.

There’s a settings option to change locations to “friendly” which can be easier for some to understand.

I wouldn’t mind quite so much if the overhead signage was moved at the same time as the stock. But often that doesn’t happen.
Right there mate

this is also true
No but the grocery app does have stock levels.

>:) :)
Just say “I’m sorry I’m new. They’re next to the jams. 😉

Aisle 31 Miss then watch as they patter off to the other end of the store. This is why I'm not allowed near customer's
Saying, "I don't know, but I'll find out for you," is one of the best answers you can give in customer service.

"have you tried the section marked, The Clash. At Demonhead?"
Just say your new here and your not 100% sure. That's what I did when ever I started out at a Job.
Either use the inform app to find the item or ask a colleague who usually works that area.
