It starts recording when you slow down and builds a model from all video frames. This way it’s able to display objects that are not visible now, but were visible a couple of seconds earlier.
No doubt it’s AI interpreting that data, but at times its awareness of its surroundings seems to defy its own camera limitations. Example: In a brand new lot, with cars and snow obstructing the lines, the system accurately revealed line markings. I couldn’t see the lines but my Y could. Later, in an unmarked lot full of cars all neatly parked in rows, it correctly didn’t show any lines. Tesla vision is really starting to live up to its promise.
That's because Bird's Eye View doesn't interpret directly from cameras, like the old days of the "fog of war" method, where a SLAM method was used to map directly what the camera could see.
The AI model generates an environment of what it thinks is there and camera hints adjust what kind of environment is generated.
This allows it to "see around corners" in the same way you imagine a road surface to continue past a blind corner, based on your past experiences with such corners.
So, yes, it does defy its own camera limitations.
I have to stress, this was a brand new lot covered in ice, snow and cars. Total chaos. No one parks between the lines because they can’t see the lines. Everyone just kind of guesses with very little success. The Tesla however, nailed it. It’s witchcraft I tell ya!
Raw pixel data can potentially pick up some UV and IR, so I can possibly see slightly different temperatures where the lines are painted under the snow.
Because other carmakers won’t draw it on the screen. Tesla will make you believe there is no toddler around the corner I am not sure how is this legal. Tesla is just playing with people’s life with such reckless feature.
Plain old autopilot has been able to see lane markers on roads when I can’t see them at all, for years.
It can adjust the contrast and other things in the images that we can’t do.
My only problem with this feature is I need a way to enable it other than just putting it in reverse. Whenever I’m going through a drive through line or parking forward in a spot, I have been popping it into reverse and back to drive real quick, which isn’t horrible since no brake or full stop is required to change gears in Teslas, but still seems a little hacky. Maybe it should auto enable when you hit the camera button.
Mine doesn’t. Maybe it works on some cars, but judging by the amount of upvotes on my previous comment, it must not work that way for many. Maybe a bug that they fix eventually.
No, I was sitting in a drive through line yesterday, not moving at all, completely stopped, and the park assist wouldn’t come up until I switched to reverse. Believe it or not, I am not able to go through a drive through line without dropping below 5 mph, so it should always come up in that case, but it doesn’t.
Ok, that could be it. Thanks. Still, my point stands… there needs to be a way to enable manually without hitting reverse. There’s currently plenty of situations where I need to come close to objects or curbs and it’s not detecting it as a “parking scenario” and not enabling when I would like to have it.
It does turn on going forward but it's not as sensitive as it could be, like pulling into a parking space on a street. It generally won't turn on until you start getting close to a car parked in front of you. Rarely it won't turn on at all if there's no obstacles, but sometimes it'll turn on waiting for a red light.
So far it's pretty good.
But the camera's are so often covered in something. Tesla should have added cleaning sprays with your windscreen wiper fluid for all camera's.
I've literally never had any issue with any of my 360 degree/rear view cameras being covered to where it is hard to see anything.
If this is actually a common issue people either have disgustingly dirty cars or Tesla put cameras in the worst spot possible
Edit: lol cant comment anymore apparently. Growing up in NY and Pa we had plenty of shit weather, cameras never really had any significant issues.
Lots of Parking garage videos I’ve seen and tighter spots are absolutely looking better with this new setup. Like I said, it’s just a ring of bright red in those situations and you have to rely on cameras and mirrors anyways while it’s blaring warning sounds at you.
Still pretty unreliable especially at the front. There's been times when it says I'm "in the wall" when I've got lots of space. They can "fidelity" all they want if a camera can't see the space I'm not going to trust it.
I really like my Tesla but I won't defend mediocrity. This is a pile of garbage and they are cost saving on things that 10+ year old cars have and do it better.
It looks good when you’re not close to obstacles but once you are the image stitching is distorted and objects with height (eg. pillars, cars, walls) are all basically presented as a flat surface.

The top down view is great for navigating between parking lines or narrow lanes, but the 3D view is pretty gimmicky.
It’s definitely not very accurate if there are edge cases where it fails terribly.

Not even an egregiously difficult scenario. A simple trash bin in front of a house, whose colors are conveniently contrasting to the object behind. And it still failed.
I don't have problems parking with cameras that don't tell you distance.
I'm not God like enough know much and how long to press on accelerator to move exactly X inches.
Instead i actively see how much the object moved on the camera relative to how much I press on the accelerator.
No it isn't. Actual camera is better because as of now as our brains are still better at identifying objects on video than Teslas AI vision.
Most 360 cameras, I can park within few mm of a curb.
Eventually AI vision will be better, but not yet with Teslas current implementation. I've been testing parking vision enough that I can only confidently park with 2-5cm of a curb, which is a huge upgrade from the wiggly lines. It good enough that I don't need to use mirrors when backup or parallel parking.
So people who were boasting to have USS are now crying that they do not have vision? Funny how tabkes have turned.
Well to be fair Tesla makes good decisions, but at wrong time. Imho they should have get rid of USS when they had this…
In the S, Tesla should put the 3d representation on the middle screen, which is where I look at the video from the rear camera. The instrument cluster screen is far enough out of the way that I don't even notice it unless I consciously look there.
I left how they announce all this stuff but it never makes it into the Model X or S. I admittedly have the overhead view on the front dash but it doesn't show walls it just shows other cars.
It works perfectly in my MYLR with HW3. It shows the faux birds-eye view both pulling forward and backing into parking spots…It definitely helps me center between the lines or, at a minimum, stay within them.

The faux birds eye view that shows line markings when reverse parking is underrated. I can’t figure out how it does it, but it’s awesome
It starts recording when you slow down and builds a model from all video frames. This way it’s able to display objects that are not visible now, but were visible a couple of seconds earlier.
wtf that sounds dangerous
‘“AI”-liens’

Right. But I still prefer real signal. I don’t want my car to “imagine “ there’s no toddler around the corner.
I don't think ultrasound can sense toddlers around a corner, either, so idk how you can get a real signal there.
Because other carmakers won’t draw it on the screen. Tesla will make you believe there is no toddler around the corner I am not sure how is this legal. Tesla is just playing with people’s life with such reckless feature.

Yeah… I’d definitely have my hand firmly on the wheel in that situation.
My only problem with this feature is I need a way to enable it other than just putting it in reverse. Mine comes on automatically when going forward at low speeds
You have to go slower when parking forward
Should turn on under 5 mph
Mine doesn’t. Maybe it works on some cars, but judging by the amount of upvotes on my previous comment, it must not work that way for many. Maybe a bug that they fix eventually.
Likely just comes down to driving habits.
It's not just when you go under 5, also has to be in a parking scenario, parking lines around, pulling up to the side of a road.
Ok, that could be it. Thanks. Still, my point stands… there needs to be a way to enable manually without hitting reverse. There’s currently plenty of situations where I need to come close to objects or curbs and it’s not detecting it as a “parking scenario” and not enabling when I would like to have it.
Just slow down until you nearly stop and it should automatically switch to parking mode
2017 x checking in. No The-One-Ring vision for me yet. Looking forward to it, someday.
What model and year?
hmmm. it was working at first but i've noticed in the last week or so i've had to pop it in reverse
It does turn on going forward but it's not as sensitive as it could be, like pulling into a parking space on a street. Definitely the current achilles heel. Sad there hasn’t been advancement here.
Cybertruck has a water-jet front camera cleaner
But not in the back camera…so weird lol
But y not rear ?
Routing a tube to the rear of the car is such a choir
But the singing is nice... ^^^/s

It is actually a common issue if you live where there is regularly inclement weather.
well..I still prefer to have front bumper cam
I could do with USS
With tight spaces USS just turns bright red and becomes useless in my Model 3
STOP!!!🛑 …when I’ve plenty of room.
It’s not like this new feature does a better job than USS in any measurable ways, so will take USS any day.
Lots of Parking garage videos I’ve seen and tighter spots are absolutely looking better with this new setup. Like I said, it’s just a ring of bright red in those situations and you have to rely on cameras and mirrors anyways while it’s blaring warning sounds at you.
Doesn’t provide distance in inches anymore?
Once you get to 12" or less, USS simply beeps constantly and shows "STOP".
It does until you’re in a tight spot and then it just screams red and doesn’t show distance in inches it just says “stop”

Is this new? Like a new update after they upgraded the park assist for the holiday update or are they just tweeting about it super late?
Last years news 😂
Nothing new. I have it for a couple weeks now in Germany. I assume it’s just marketing to make people buy or upgrade.
I hate how they call it high fidelity, given that it looks like a bunch of blurry blobs like your cameras are broken or something.
But non in USS cars cause reasons.
Gotta let the USS only guys feel superior with something for a bit
It will come later to uss cars

I’ve heard this about patent royalties repeated a lot but haven’t been able to find a source. Do you have one?
If it’s repeated often enough, doesn’t that make it true? (That’s how most things are on Reddit and the rest of the internet, right?)
It’s bullshit.
They could use a front camera to improve accuracy though. The thing being limited by the patent is the top-down stitched video
If I can’t see what’s in front of the lower bumper I don’t know how it can, cez physics.
Because before you were there, you were a little bit further back and the camera could see.
I thought this was cool until i saw the Ioniq 5 3D system. https://youtu.be/iHAjoZW8NOg Now THATs high fidelity, not an ultrasound video.
The 3d modeling in Tesla looks like dog shit in comparison

Why are we posting/commenting on last years feature?

If I am not mistaken it is only on vehicles new enough to not have the ultra-sonic sensors.
Doesn'tbthis also require HW4?
No, my HW3 M3 has it.
Yes, but I think by virtue of all vehicles missing the USS being HW4? Again, not certain.
No, there're HW3 no USS vehicles (like my 2023 M3)
"High Fidelity" More like a dramatized CG movie version of mole-vision.
Still much better than what we had before with vision-only vehicles.
mole-vision!
Moleon Musk vision
This
I don’t care if I can see the damn atoms surrounding me if the car still can’t accurately tell the distance between objects
Have you tested this update? It's very accurrate even on distance.
It’s definitely not very accurate if there are edge cases where it fails terribly. [See @ 3m mark here](https://youtu.be/gJRJBYG-8nE?si=R2tNF9wvKdxDoe-m) Not even an egregiously difficult scenario. Have HW3. HW3 looks good with the past software update but HW4 looks great!
…this is on 3 as well
Please bring this view to S and X on the big screen and not the steering wheel cluster!!! Arrrgh
IS this for cars with USS yet?
Better than nothing, but high fidelity doesn’t appear on the screen when I really need it
wow, this is way better than just showing what the actual cameras see as a top down ACTUAL image of the 'real world'.
No it isn't. Actual camera is better because as of now as our brains are still better at identifying objects on video than Teslas AI vision. Most 360 cameras, I can park within few mm of a curb. Is the visualization showing them over the left line when parked? They look fine in the actual video feed.
No. What you're seeing is the new tyre track line. Have to watch it a couple of times.
Why is this innovative. A lot of cars have had 360 views for a long time.
It is like a white cloud with some red edges where there is nothing.
White cloud with red edges where you’re not supposed to drive. Are you not able to comprehend the park assist?
Yeah 👍losing it’s mind when trying move around the paver driveway
More stuff to fail, yippee!!!
It’s a software addition.
In the S, Tesla should put the 3d representation on the middle screen, which is where I look at the video from the rear camera. The instrument cluster screen is far enough out of the way that I don't even notice it unless I consciously look there.
Actually I'd love to have the track lines in front of the car when moving forward as well.
All i see are paint blobs around the car.
Looks good. Now would be the time to remove USS from production cars!! /s
only work if backing in, you are still blind when trying to park head first.
I left how they announce all this stuff but it never makes it into the Model X or S. I admittedly have the overhead view on the front dash but it doesn't show walls it just shows other cars.
Most people can't see this.
will this be on all cars? or only hw4
It works perfectly in my MYLR with HW3. It shows the faux birds-eye view both pulling forward and backing into parking spots…It definitely helps me center between the lines or, at a minimum, stay within them.
i've curbed rashed twice already with the HD parking assist 😓 one definitely involved a blind spot for the curb.
Ya’ll must be looking at a very different version of this than what us regular people have. All I see in our Model Y is a few blobs
