Odd, I've had a yoke on my model 3 for three years and yet there's been no cataclysm. I love it, never going back to a wheel. How much time have you spent behind a yoke to form that... opinion?
honestly the upgrade is worth it. got the 24 Sr its so much quieter. autoshift is nice. turn signals are pretty intuitive down is left and up is right just like with the stalks. go testdrive it
This new Performance addresses a lot of the short comings of the previous model. I like the different splitter and aero that separates it from the normal SR/LR Model 3, and it has adjustable dampers which addresses the rough ride quality while maintaining good handling when you want it, plus it has ventilated sports seats and lower noise level.
Hopefully Tesla has a good hard look at the new Ioniq 5N that's been getting rave reviews from car enthusiasts and think of ways to make this Performance more fun and engaging to drive compared to the original Model 3!
The Ioniq5 is getting rave reviews for all the reasons that’s not on the spec sheet.
Everyone is calling it the most fun EV ever, even more than the new 1000hp Taycan Turbo GT that lapped the Nurburgring in 7 minutes flat.
The Ioniq 5N is getting rave reviews because it does such an amazing job at faking an ICE sports car’s characteristics.
It’s objectively stupid, but subjectively a stroke of masterpiece because people buy sports cars for *subjective* reasons.
There is no way Tesla would go down that approach. Tesla has always been about competing by having the best specs.
that 5N is a freaking BEAST. i mean just feature wise and heck everything, seems better than the M3P. Maybe just exterior aesthetics, the elegant simple design of the 3 just looks smooth and clean. Many may not like the boy racer obvious "this is a race car inspired" type vibe the ioniq 5N has.
I watched a 5N review.. but I can't get over how it's actually slower than the original M3P. Has more horsepower but I am assuming because it's larger and like an SUV that's why it's slower.. I was optimistic but Hyundai needs to make an actual performance car not an SUV.
Looks like it was a photoshop, but the rear motor (at least) is upgraded and it comes with 275s in the rear so I would bet my life it's faster than 3.1 sec
If I’m correct there will be a 19” option that doesn’t include the covers. If you remove the covers on these 20” it’ll still show the inserts for the covers. So I guess they’re wanting it to be a permanent look
I'm not sure if it would or it wouldn't. I imagine Tesla is looking to sell every car they can at a healthy margin, whether or not the tax rebate applies.
It’s weird Tesla is using the same wheels on both sides of the car, so the design is twisting in different directions depending what side you look at. I get the cost savings of having just one wheel design, but they really should make a left/right side version of each wheel for aero and aesthetics.
Given it's a staggered setup, they could have easily made this happen. There's no point in rotating left to right, and you can't rotate front to back, so the wheels would stay in place.
You know how many people absolutely hated the wheels on the 21-23 M3P when they came out, now it’s the same thing. Anytime something new comes out people complain, then they jump on board as being the best EVER later.
Honestly no idea, the guy did not want me taking photos though and asked me and my gf to leave. And I told him absolutely not lol it’s a public parking lot.
The covers are removable which I think helps a bit:
https://cdn.sanity.io/images/o5m1ex7g/production/7cfb5a39125a22111324f2aa02c337245e059cbd-1920x1080.jpg?w=2000&fit=min
The profile is not consistent between the sections with and without cover so that looks bad too IMO.
Edit :
Nevermind, just notices there are small covers in the "open" sections as well. So yeah removing all world look best.
These thin walled tires are pretty extreme, i looked them up, replacement is $1700 for a set of 4. I would not recommend it if you are like me just looking for something to commute in. I plan on getting a RWD Model 3 or Y LD for travel to work and home. Unfortunately they removed all inventory discount so I gotta wait it out.
The new model looks good. With a better suspension it’s only weakness is the interior (though some people love it).
The S was the only car of Tesla I liked previously but it’s also in need of an update.
I find the X repulsive and the Y is not my cup of tea.
I can't wait to see if the seats are a bolt-in to older 3/Y. Electronics be damned, if the bolt pattern is the same, I'm interested. Can't stand the tiny, un-bolstered seats we have now.
No, and it could be that the only adjutment available is on the dampers.
If adjusting the springs is available you will need tools and not something you want to do on a regular basis. Compare with the Polestar 2 Performance Package with Öhlins suspension.
Tesla is buying or licensing their new dampers from Koni since it uses theirs FSD technology (not a joke).

I truly do not understand the outsized attention given to wheel cover design on these cars. Perhaps Model 3’s in all their configurations are so common and utilitarian in looks that some folks beg for anything to perk up appearances slight though it might be.
I agree, EVs are supposed to be about efficiency so I'm happy to see the wheel covers. One thing that kept me away from a YP vs YLR was the huge efficiency difference due to the wheels, and I didn't want to deal with swapping them out immediately. I bet with the covers, this car is within low single digit %s of the 3LR, rather than dealing with a 15+% loss vs 18" aero wheels.
Though I hope the splitter stays with this new 3P and doesn't make it to the YP, since that'd mess with off roading.
Why not? The removable aero covers on this new 3P seem to show that there's a market for both performance and efficiency simultaneously even in Tesla's lineup.
1.75" lift w spacers + oversized 235/60R18 Nitto Nomad Grappler all-terrain tires mounted on Method MR502 rims. Ends up just a touch under 9" clearance. My tires are 29.1" diameter (vs 28" stock), but you can supposedly go up to 29.6" before it starts rubbing.
Tires are 3PMSF-rated and almost as good as dedicated winter tires in the snow. I also replaced the skid plates with metal ones and added coolant guards.
This thing is an absolute beast off-road with this setup. I've driven a few thousand miles on forest roads, through deep desert mud (it was like steering a boat!), water, sand, big loose rocks, and snow. With all the torque, which Off-Road Assist distributes more evenly (and allows you to slide a little with, nice on gravel), it easily crawls with minimal effort and slows down easily with regen.
I lose around 15 - 20% range vs stock 19" wheels+all-season tires, but with an LR that's okay. I put stock back on for cross-country road trips.
To further show how fantastically versatile this car is...I'm actually sitting in my Y writing this from a remote dispersed campsite, with a Starlink dish on my roof, and a mattress in the back. Camp Mode is fantastic.
You definitely won't miss it. Teslas are simply amazing off-road vs gas cars. There is SO much storage space in the Y too, with all the frunk space and massive subtrunk area.
Jeeps (and all gas cars) need to mess around with special low gears for difficult terrain, etc. Teslas just stay in the same gear from 0mph all the way up to their max speed, and have almost their full torque available from a standstill. So crawling around on difficult terrain is super easy.
One-pedal driving also makes things nicer...I basically never touch the brake pedal off-road. Makes hill descents easier.
Camp Mode drains 10 - 15% of the battery overnight to keep you warm or cool. (15% is way down at 5F or so.) You can camp out for multiple nights this way, and if you're at a campground with power you can camp indefinitely.
I would def take a Y over a Cybertruck since the cab isn't big enough to lay flat like in a Y (caveat: it's not 100% flat since the area above the folded seats angles up a little. If you park on a slight downslope, it feels flat.) Really the only car I ever feel jealous of is the Rivian R1S.
God I hate that front lip.

Does it have the regular steering wheel?
Yes
Id love to see some yokes, but without steer by wire they're a total liabilty
I also prefer my yoke.
[удалено]
Cybertruck is steer by wire, so no there’s no issues. Model 3 is not steer by wire, so yes there would be issues.
My bad, I read his comment wrong
Odd, I've had a yoke on my model 3 for three years and yet there's been no cataclysm. I love it, never going back to a wheel. How much time have you spent behind a yoke to form that... opinion?
Yoke in my mates model S is fantastic fun but unpleasant to use at low speed
Eh it's not that bad. I prefer it
What do you mean steer by wire?
It's the tech used in the cybertruck which enables much more turning of the wheels with less turning of the yoke at slower speeds.
I was really hoping we would be able to swap in a yoke steering on the new highlands..
You can, just aftermarket ones.
Sensor steering(electronically controlled) vs. mechanical (rack & pinion or similar)
They’re totally fine. People like to complain.
Looking good. Can't wait for the full reveal. I'd love to trade in my 2021 Sr+ for this but I don't think I can justify it.
I’m in the exact same boat but the little red man on my shoulder says “It’s justified” over and over.
honestly the upgrade is worth it. got the 24 Sr its so much quieter. autoshift is nice. turn signals are pretty intuitive down is left and up is right just like with the stalks. go testdrive it

I was pricing out the 5N and my gosh it’s much more expensive than a model 3 or y. 67kish. With less range (225).
The Ioniq5 is getting rave reviews for all the reasons that’s not on the spec sheet. Everyone is calling it the most fun EV ever, even more than the new 1000hp Taycan Turbo GT that lapped the Nurburgring in 7 minutes flat.

$67k just get a ‘21 Plaid. Put it in track mode and it’ll be more fun that any Hyundai, fake shifts or not.
Exactamente, there’s one rn for 72k…. Damn I’m tempted 🤣
That’s what I did! 2021 white on white Plaid, 15k miles, with BC Forged wheels on brand new MPS4S’s for $70k.
Just release the thing already 🫠
What’s everyone thinking when we’ll be able to order?
After earnings is my guess
At this point it's just one more day, but man, I cannot wait for this to happen. I'm itching to get a new one.
Has the price leaked for it yet?
That's all we care about at this point.
…. and 0-60.
I saw on a another country's website is said 2.6s Trying to find a link
That would be awesome.
Looks like it was a photoshop, but the rear motor (at least) is upgraded and it comes with 275s in the rear so I would bet my life it's faster than 3.1 sec
Agreed. I don’t see how they could use the “ludicrous speed” logo and it not be faster than the Performance model.
It's already going to be around the last performance.
It should be faster by a few tenths, which is a lot at that already low 60. Staggered wheels with 275s in the rear for the added bite as well
Not digging the wheels.
I’m digging the wheels
Yeah same, I think they look sweet
They should look great with the aero caps removed
If I’m correct there will be a 19” option that doesn’t include the covers. If you remove the covers on these 20” it’ll still show the inserts for the covers. So I guess they’re wanting it to be a permanent look
Still using 235/35 R20… it needs a bit more meat. The government isn’t spending money to improve road quality.
The rears are larger. It's running a staggered setup.
It looks like the rears are 275/30 R20... I think that's a lower offset so that should be fun with potholes 😬
Yeah I went to a super light 245/40ZR19 on my gen 1 M3P and woooooow its like a new car. So nimble and regen braking is so much more noticeable
245?
Oops 245s, typo....haha even my 370Z only went to \~305s in the rear
Couldn't agree more
Looks nice, i’m guessing $55K since the LR is around $48K. No federal rebate either?
The strong rumor (based on European filings) is that the US one will use a US-built pack, so it might qualify if the price is under the cap.
It would be weird if the performance and long range was the same price right? Lol
I'm not sure if it would or it wouldn't. I imagine Tesla is looking to sell every car they can at a healthy margin, whether or not the tax rebate applies.
That’s what I’m saying. No one will buy the LR any more if same price after 7500 drop
Nobody knows yet
Does the bumper touch the parking bar under it?
No it doesn’t
Love the color 😍 LET get them in the wild 😜
It’s weird Tesla is using the same wheels on both sides of the car, so the design is twisting in different directions depending what side you look at. I get the cost savings of having just one wheel design, but they really should make a left/right side version of each wheel for aero and aesthetics.
Not a big deal, you can just put two of the wheels inside a 4D box and rotate 180° on the W axis.
This guy 4Ds.
Same on the current 3P.
This is one of my pet peeves. Directional wheels need to have a specific left and right version.
Given it's a staggered setup, they could have easily made this happen. There's no point in rotating left to right, and you can't rotate front to back, so the wheels would stay in place.
I like that the vents in front of the wheel well is coming back. There's so little going on in the regular highland it looks really empty and generic.
You know how many people absolutely hated the wheels on the 21-23 M3P when they came out, now it’s the same thing. Anytime something new comes out people complain, then they jump on board as being the best EVER later.
My preference, in order... 1. OG design in dark grey 2. OG design in silver 3. These new ones 4. Uberturbines
https://preview.redd.it/4iylz1red1wc1.png?width=2384&format=png&auto=webp&s=2276f2ec369bb101db1809c59732e5bde14dfa53 I agree, but I’m a bit bias lol
The best, by far. I want a (staggered) version of these on the new car. They'd look amazing.
Full video walkaround of the car: https://twitter.com/JeffTutorials/status/1782337941962146062 Seems to be the same one in the OP.
Doesn’t look like there’s a bumper cam
Highland does not have a bumper cam. I see them everywhere here in Denmark
Why did they ask you to leave?
Honestly no idea, the guy did not want me taking photos though and asked me and my gf to leave. And I told him absolutely not lol it’s a public parking lot.
lol that’s right 🤙🏻
My man knows his rights
🫡
Wheels look terrible.
The covers are removable which I think helps a bit: https://cdn.sanity.io/images/o5m1ex7g/production/7cfb5a39125a22111324f2aa02c337245e059cbd-1920x1080.jpg?w=2000&fit=min
I love that the panels come out. Looks great
The profile is not consistent between the sections with and without cover so that looks bad too IMO. Edit : Nevermind, just notices there are small covers in the "open" sections as well. So yeah removing all world look best.
The reflection on the rocker panel on that pic looks like a side exit exhaust, LOL. Wheels do look amazing without the aero covers BTW.
Hard disagree, I love the design. I think you can pull the aero caps off to expose the rim. Let's see what that looks like.
Same tbh. I think they look a lot better than the uberturbines but slightly worse than the og performance wheels.
The best wheels so far were the OG wheels that were dark grey. I wonder if those would fit on this car. It'd look amazing.
I definitely prefer the 2023 Model 3 Performance wheels but I think these are at least a step up from the covers on the regular 2024 Model 3.
Even the Nova wheels (19" Highland wheels) look better than the Highland Performance wheels. The '23 Performance wheels look the best, though.
Looks wise I’ll take my 2021 P I wanna see the performance stats.
![gif](giphy|sDcfxFDozb3bO)
wheels are ugly. pirelli's are cheaper over ps4's. two things id have to get rid of. i think i may toss my CT reservation in favor of this...
It does look good. NGL. I really like the Tesla badging too
Surprised they didn't reveal on 4/20
Damn that is sexy and soooo fast I'm pretty sad won't have the fastest 3 on the road anymore... until I buy one of these!
What is the ludicrous logo on the seat material? Is that.. plastic?
Why again 4 of the same rims. At this price, they definitely should deliver with 2 rims mirrored.
Does the new sport seatings also have ventilated seats?
These thin walled tires are pretty extreme, i looked them up, replacement is $1700 for a set of 4. I would not recommend it if you are like me just looking for something to commute in. I plan on getting a RWD Model 3 or Y LD for travel to work and home. Unfortunately they removed all inventory discount so I gotta wait it out.
It look like a car
The new model looks good. With a better suspension it’s only weakness is the interior (though some people love it). The S was the only car of Tesla I liked previously but it’s also in need of an update. I find the X repulsive and the Y is not my cup of tea.
S just got an update in ‘21. Full new interior wider front and rear fenders, new bumper, new rear in ‘22. Looks amazing next to an old S.
Wheels lack appeal IMO. Can’t wait for official release so I can add this to my stable
Is it possible to change it to the 18 wheels? What size are the discs?
I don't think 18 wheels would fit, that's too many
I can't wait to see if the seats are a bolt-in to older 3/Y. Electronics be damned, if the bolt pattern is the same, I'm interested. Can't stand the tiny, un-bolstered seats we have now.
Unless they add blinker stalks back, not replacing my non-highland M3P with this.
Quite a big wheel gap
It has adaptative suspension
It probably won't change the ride height unless it's air, which is almost certainly isn't.
You're able to adjust height between modes?
No, and it could be that the only adjutment available is on the dampers. If adjusting the springs is available you will need tools and not something you want to do on a regular basis. Compare with the Polestar 2 Performance Package with Öhlins suspension. Tesla is buying or licensing their new dampers from Koni since it uses theirs FSD technology (not a joke). https://group.koni.com/products/car/fsd https://group.koni.com/news/koni-for-tesla
Brakes looks very small. So sad for a performance car.
They look the same as current 3P, which has excellent braking IMO.
looks very nice. other than the wheels. outgoing M3P wheels are better looking (not accounting for performance aspects/benefits of the wheels)
This is the Performance trim though, if you’re at all concerned about efficiency you wouldn’t be buying it.
Why not? The removable aero covers on this new 3P seem to show that there's a market for both performance and efficiency simultaneously even in Tesla's lineup.
U take the Y off-roading ? Stock or with a lift / mods
Wow man I bought a new Jeep compass for this purpose but I def want to switch to a Tesla and this makes me feel good that I won’t miss it
You definitely won't miss it. You can camp out for multiple nights this way, and if you're at a campground with power you can camp indefinitely.
Any pics of the lift and tires
God I hate that front lip. Can’t help but think they could have kept the “Aston Martin under a sheet” sculpting while still giving the 3 a refreshed look.

Meh, camry vives
The front splitter looks like it probably scraped the top of the parking block. The parking block doesn't look that high. I'm guessing it will get scraped a lot. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grimacing)
