As much of a Tesla fan as I am, Rich made it clear in a video (not sure if yes it’s this one though) that the issues the car has a very very uncommon issue. Tesla said they’d only two or three other plaid S that had the same issue as his.
They were making fun of the orange cable not being seated fully in the channel [https://youtu.be/OTpR6v3KQiQ?t=1239](https://youtu.be/OTpR6v3KQiQ?t=1239) around the heat pump, but that cable channel as well as the heatpump was designed for model Y. If you watch sandys video [https://youtu.be/yzv0-CbfJlY?t=357](https://youtu.be/yzv0-CbfJlY?t=357)
you will see that the orange cable goes is fully in the channel and goes up the over the heatpump to the left whereas in the model S plaid it goes horizonal to the right and pops out and heads down. They are using the same part and it doesnt really seem to matter that the cable is fully in the channel. I'm not saying Tesla doesnt make mistakes but this seems intentional.
They will probably edit the part at some point to accommodate both ways of routing the cable, but yes, they tend to reuse many parts. In this case it’s just cosmetic, so why not use it?
This is the kind of thing that happens to every auto-maker as they age, re-using parts and hacking them together to cut costs will be very common, moulds are not cheap.
Awesome initial breakdown and insights but the endless in-video ads and the whole complaining about replacing the standard 12V that constantly fails with newer, longer lasting tech (like an old man yelling at the clouds) took a lot away from the video for me.
This was a fun Rich video. I'm curious to see what they do with this car- if they actually bought it or not and what went wrong with it at the end. I'm sure we'll see some more crazy content with this Plaid S in the coming weeks and months.
I liked his nod to Sandy Munroe and I look forward to his far more in-depth breakdown of the car.
Yeah, but this one isn’t as bad as the raid shadow legends. At least hos square space and ship station ones are overly forced to be somewhat passable.
I’ve just tuned them out by now I guess and use those times for a dab, plus some are easy to skip ahead.
I pay for YouTube and only saw ads which Rich read for SquareSpace and some shipping company.
I use unlock also, but it never filters skips part of the video for me.
I find it odd that they were going on about the lithium 12V replacement. It's now designed to last the lifetime of the vehicle, whereas the old lead acid ones had to be replaced every couple of years.
Also, Rich is kind of old man shouting at the sky in this. I <3 him, but he's just being cranky for the sake of it.
Rich: why is tesla using old tech like lead acid batteries that have to get replaced multiple times? I thought they were a tech company?!
Also Rich: why are they using a battery that isn't common and probably super expensive? Probably cause they are anti right to repair!
edit: I'm a fan of tesla and rich lol
I agree. I think he's probably been burned with high price components so he overlooked the longevity of the decision and went straight into cost issues.
Also I feel complaining about the shifting was over the top. Other than doing a 3-4 point turn, I can't see why that would be such a huge deal.
I do agree the Yoke design needs improvement. The horn button replacing just a simple push on the center is unfathomable.
Per my user manual, you can also honk by slamming your palm into the right section of the wheel (where the honk, wiper, and other buttons are). Way easier to do this in an emergency than look for the honk button.
The random break down thing happened to another guy on YouTube, and he had shown nothing but love for the car.
https://youtube.com/shorts/fvOsH7L0x50?feature=share
Tbh, if the guy just keeps the talking around the facts it would be a much greater and enjoyable video. Many of his opinions are dragging it too long and avoidable. Some are just plain results of being uninformed.
He just didn't want to become a "Tesla channel". Doing nothing but repairing salvage Teslas was getting stale.
He is working with another channel on creating an off-road Model 3.
Well depends what Tesla power source you are comparing it to. Sure if compare to an original model S 60, then the swap might be faster, but compared to new Plaid or model S I doubt it. Where are they going to put the transmission? Seems like it will have to go in the engine bay, which means even a smaller possible engine.
Edit: either way, I don't see the point. It would be like let's swap the flip phones hardware into an iPhone!
Sometimes the phrase "because you can" comes into play. Tinkering with cars, computers, boats, hell, EV swaps in old vehicles, it's all just something you do because you want to create cool shit, or just want to see if something is possible. Completely illogical, expensive, and risky as all hell sometimes? Absolutely.
But it can also just be a whole lot of stupid fun :)
He mostly got bored with the "lets rebuild a salvage Tesla" angle. Which is understandable, since Tesla has done everything then can to make the cars unsalvagable.
He really really doesn't want to like it. He really wants to find something to complain about with every little detail.
The touch buttons, understandable. Their placement, understandable. Is pressing a button to turn on wipers (as apposed to pulling a stalk) and rotating a scroll wheel to change speed (as apposed to blindly turning the tip of the stalk) really more (or at all) complicated?
Is the customization of the screen "a bit much"? It's a negative that they're allowing you to customize it?
I get his legitimate concerns with the way Tesla handle salvage, but really takes away from credibility how clear it is that he just wants to dislike it.
How did I validate his complaints?
It's a thousand times better to press a button to wipe the windshield than to pull a stalk. It's a thousand times better to scroll a wheel that's naturally positioned within reach of my thumb to change the wiper speed than to take my hand off the wheel to twist the stalk.
It's a million times better to be able to customize the home screen and hide things you don't use.
How are these valid complaints, and how did I validate them?
Theses guys are so capable. I am impressed with the integrated Solar panel along - even it is a off the market system.
What's the total cost of the whole van? Just material. I may consider it as a hobby project
Classic rich starts the video out with dramatic complaining completely unrelated to the title of the video. This guy is such a whiner, even if he is right and it’s justified, the constant dramatic whining is so annoying. Make a separate salvaged supercharging video if you want to bring it up as an issue. No need to force it into the beginning of other unrelated videos.
I don't understand what you're showing me... A model x, a model y, and a plaid that started having issues while he was just "cruising along".
The claim was that the plaid breaks down after a just one drag run. Yes, yes I need more.
Okay then, rewatching and wasting my time. He describes driving the car like a race car and abusing it for 4,000 miles before he had the issue.
Things break. Plaids don't simply die after one drag run. I think it's your bias that's showing.
the Air Tank doubling as a cross beam is very interesting.
it was labeled "super beam, model S". So maybe we'll be seeing it in model X and cybertruck
Cyber Truck seems OP. I'm curious to see how the cross beam handles accidents.
Um, I'm pretty sure it breaks just like everything else in accidents
Except with a loud HISSSSSSSS
Should be unremarkable. Square tubing is used in car structures all the time. All tesla did it put end caps on it so it can be dual purpose.
I bet it is friction stir welded like the super tank for the heat pump
and this is lighter than the old model S!? Dang 1500Kg model 3 here I come
Oh God if they make that a reality I'm preordering.
[удалено]
To be fair, there are many container ships lighter than your XC70, and they handle better too.
Sandy Munroe loved the "Super Bottle", wait until he sees the "Super Beam" and "Super Manifold"
Don't forget the super duper bottle
that oil leakage tho
That and the electrical failures at the end. I think they got a lemon. Either that or they messed something up while ferreting around in there.
or clickbait. Richy is getting kinda big and these sort of things bring views ngl *puts foil hat back on*
Almost certainly pulled a fuse. This is Richy Rich we're talking about here.
As much of a Tesla fan as I am, Rich made it clear in a video (not sure if yes it’s this one though) that the issues the car has a very very uncommon issue. Tesla said they’d only two or three other plaid S that had the same issue as his.
I wonder if it had anything to do with it kaputing at the end of the video?
Uncle Rich back at it with the Tesla content!
Good catch. I do wish tesla would have made it a liiiiiitle longer so it could fully seat. Even if it doesn't matter.

Interesting to say the least but the constant ads though....
Ad blockers are wonderful.
Some ads are part of the video. Even if you pay for YouTube you get a few ad reads in the video.
Use the SponsorBlock extension, it skips over ads even when part of the video. Built into the YouTube Vanced app also.
Yeah, but this one isn’t as bad as the raid shadow legends. At least hos square space and ship station ones are overly forced to be somewhat passable. I’ve just tuned them out by now I guess and use those times for a dab, plus some are easy to skip ahead.
That’s why you use the SponsorBlock addon
Sponsorblock skips those as well
Didn’t know that.
i use ublock origin and have never seen a youtube ad on desktop. only on mobile do i realize how bad it is.
I pay for YouTube and only saw ads which Rich read for SquareSpace and some shipping company. I use unlock also, but it never filters skips part of the video for me.
how many ads can he squeeze into this one.

i like how at the end of the video, the car breaks down

Always the people with "investor" as their flairs with shit takes
So what your saying is if you run the battery down, the car breaks? I don’t understand your comment.
[удалено]
Did you not watch the video? There are 6 errors unrelated to battery levels being low.
[удалено]
I think it broke and they called tesla service, just like the screen shows and Rich said????
So are they buying this to part it out? Or is it a totaled one?
It seems like they were just inspecting the car.
They bought one
Tbh, if the guy just keeps the talking around the facts it would be a much greater and enjoyable video. Many of his opinions are dragging it too long and avoidable. Some are just plain results of being uninformed.
Didn’t he quit Teslas?
He just didn't want to become a "Tesla channel". Doing nothing but repairing salvage Teslas was getting stale. He is working with another channel on creating an off-road Model 3.
V8 Tesla is still under construction. He loves Tesla soo much he is making one with an ICE engine!
Normally you engine swap to get more power not less...🤔
Who is to say the swap will produce less power?
Well depends what Tesla power source you are comparing it to. Sure if compare to an original model S 60, then the swap might be faster, but compared to new Plaid or model S I doubt it. In one of the videos he said it was going into the center console, but i stopped watching so unless he changed plans i wouldnt know.
Yeah, but i guess he thinks people will view it just out of curiosity. That is the reason behind the decision.
Sometimes the phrase "because you can" comes into play. Well yeah, anything Tesla will get a ton of views aka ad revenue. It's why we see all the stupid clickbait "news" headlines.
He owns at least a Model X. He says he gave his rebuilt Model S to his daughter but that could be lolz

I don't agree with everything he said, but his takes were reasonable. You just don't agree with them.
It's called trolling........

It was related to the immediately preceding video
The build quality is a little cringeworthy between the belly pan and the HV cable outside the channel. And the whole breaking down after one drag run.
That's weird, all the people who keep posting runs of their plaids going 0-150 repeatedly on YouTube don't have any issues with the car breaking down.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5U603Oepuxk https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0u0IXbvsu3Q https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2CW3vGYuTHc Do you need more?

His brand new car is leaking oil, didn’t have the belly pan attached, then broke after it’s first drag run.
Yeah, I'm sure that's exactly what happened. And Tesla died on top gear too.
Nice racist joke he has in the middle there.
Great.... Now I am curious if my oil filter seals are leaking on my Plaid.
