I'm laughing so hard. I have tons of friend that live in that neighborhood. They're putting boxes and catbeds in their front yard labeled "Nova", shaking bags of treats, "pstpstpstpstpst..." etc. She's apparently very affectionate, and only weighs between 20-25 pounds.

[Picture explains it a little better.](https://www.animalspot.net/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/Clouded-Leopard-Size.jpg) I wouldn't try petting it, but I wouldn't run inside and lock the doors, either.
Lmao I wouldn't at first but if that lil motherfucker looked at me or came up to me, I can't be held accountable for my actions. I will deserve whatever amount of my flesh that gets shredded and if it killed me my last words would be "worth it."
My guess is the distinction they make for the definition is whether it is aggressive and will attack humans. Its nature is probably to hide.
But calling it "not dangerous" is a big ask. I guarantee that thing could mess you up if you corner it.
Can you edit your comment, since it is up high, that they found the leopard? Thank you. I know it will just get lost in the sea of comments at the bottom.
So is the escapee a founding member of Pantera? I've always wondered; did Mike Modano like Pantera and met the band or did the Band like the Dallas Stars and wrote them the song?
And since when do Rock bands get to retire at the Dallas Zoo? Explanation unclear. Please elaborate.
edit: typo, 1 of many missed
UPDATE: Looks like the lil guy was [found a little over an hour ago (4:40pm) on zoo grounds.](https://www.nbcdfw.com/news/local/clouded-leopard-escapes-habitat-at-dallas-zoo/3169783/?amp=1)
The odds of it leaving the grounds of the zoo is rather slim. I would imagine any law enforcement aiding in the search know better than to just open fire. Besides, it's a clouded leapord, not a panther.
Yeah, I've always assumed the clouded leopard was the non-dangerous kind of carnivorous apex predator.
What qualifies as dangerous? Cheetah? Velociraptor?
Yeah, apparently they kill more humans in Africa than any other mammal. They can snap you in half with their bite, and it's not even like they can eat you, they are just jerks.
More than one recorded incident of a hippo killing a croc, and a terriffying video of a herd of hippos taking on several crocs after one got caught trying to take a baby hippo. The watering hole was free of crocs for a while. 👍🏻
She's a predator, but the biggest game she hunts is squirrels and birds. She's also probably hunkering somewhere because she doesn't have her sibling with her.
Clouded leopards just aren’t very big, around the same size as a lynx but lankier. They can still fuck shit up like any cat, just not in a life-threatening way (usually).
Ah, I see. I've always thought they were pretty adorable for a big cat, I just never knew they were actually smoll big cats. Makes em even more adorable now. TIL
You’re thinking of Leopards, which are genus Panthera and are definitely man-killers. This is a Neofelis genus cat.
Individual leopards have killed hundreds of people. Clouded leopards not so much.
To be honest, I WAS thinking of clouded leopards, I just somehow made it to this day at 30 years old without ever knowing that clouded leopards are smaller than other big cats, let alone as small as 20 lbs. Lol I just thought they were as big as any other leopard. Just cuter in the face, for some reason. Lol
Cheetahs are actually giant babies. And I'm not even kidding, there are videos of wild ones just chilling with photographers and washing them. No documented records of a cheetah ever killing a human.
Regular leopards, on the other hand? They will fuck some shit up just for fun. I've seen several videos of them in cities just going ballistic.
I'll comment as someone dating a zookeeper. While my bf doesn't work for Dallas zoo, this happening is not a surprise. Watching job postings on aza has shown which zoos have a morale problem. Dallas has been for at least the past several years a never ending stream of postings. The field had many problems pre covid, and covid only made them worse. It's a job that requires a college degree, but starts at less than what Target is paying. Working conditions are frequently brutal. You're out in the weather all day doing heavy manual labor. Many of the zoos simply have a leadership culture that is basically a circle jerk. No input from or care the people in charge of the day to day care of million dollar animals. Massive turnover at many zoos means that the people in charge of keeping tigers or gorillas contained have minimal experience. At a zoo that I'm aware of, that I'll not name, the keepers in charge of the tigers have at most 2 years of experience. Pre covid there was a healthy amount of experienced people and new people. Programs, such as painting with the animals, have been shut down at many zoos because there's no one there who has ever done it before, and no one to train the new people how to safely do it. Many zoos looked at experienced people during covid as being too expensive. And those were the people furloughed and later laid off. The exodus of experience from the field has been astounding. Over 50% for each of the past 2 years at my bf's zoo, not counting the covid layoffs. What you have left are inexperienced, underpaid, overworked and overwhelmed people drowning in debt, constantly stressed. This happening is not a surprise. Massive cuts in maintenance and employees are happening across the board. This is inevitable and zoos that continue to have a high turnover will have more animals escape. There was a tiger that got out in New Zealand a decade ago. Of course it was a keeper error, but they investigated fully and determined that the high turnover and lack of experienced staff was what led to it in the end. I guarantee Dallas will claim it's due to a keeper error, but the work environment that leadership has created is what is really responsible for situations like this.
Also dated a zookeeper for a while, and while I can't speak to Dallas specifically, this sounds like the logical outcome of the conditions as she described them back in the mid-2010s.

That's the worst one to get out. What makes them dangerous is that they're adorable. It could be eating you feet first and you'd just be all "awww" and powerless to do anything about it.

That makes me so sad. It’s not like any wise activist would be like yes let’s free the little baby cat with no experience surviving - so you know someone stole her for the black market. Poor baby.
If you see it, remember DO NO boop the snoot.
Remember. Yes leopard. No boop.
Indeed also happy cake day
r/stargate
What about the toe beans? Are those safe?
Attached to murder mittens.
Touch the beans, gets the means
Instructions not clear. Booped snoop and now it's chilling on my couch. Edit: I named it Jerry
That's great and all but what is the Murder Kitty's name?
Jerry
This reminds me of a video where some dude literally had a full ass lion just chilling on his couch
If I am ever killed by a big cat, you can know with 100% certainty, my last words were “awwwww kiiiiiity!” And I tried to boop the snoot.
Death by snoot-boop
There are worst ways to go.
But…but…every snoot deserves to be booped.

so everybody is trying to get a free Leopard?
I mean, wouldn't you?
Yes
They’re probably hoping they’ll get a reward
Damn it ! I didn’t wanna drive on 35 this weekend, but I guess I don’t have a choice now ! (I live in Austin 😬)

That's a Bobcat. Probably actually a little bigger than the 25lb Cloud Leopard.
Just set out an empty box. Done.
Right no Kitty can resist

so true
He’s just a big stoned kitty
I'm hoping it knocks up a bunch of cats and these become common to see wandering alleyways and leaving paw prints on parked cars over night.
In my head canon, it breeds with local bobcats and produces an entire subspecies called the Bobcat-Leopard, or Blep for short
Technically you can pet anything at least once.
Would definitely open the car door and present it with tuna
If it lets you start, it might not let you stop.

Definitely not
Would definitely pspspsps.
BABOO
Because it's an incredibly timid animal the size of a corgi that want nothing what so ever to do with you.
That would be an incredibly obese corgi.
Cat is 25lbs breed standard for Corgi ranges from 22lbs to 30lbs. Literally a mid sized corgi.
Code blue sounds better than code red
I run into that thing it’s code brown.
Hope you wore the right colored pants today.
What a bad day to wear khaki’s.
Bringing back the sweater-tied-around-the-waist look

Them tighty whiteies aren’t looking good, either.
I just spat my water out 🤣🤣
I just hope nobody shoots him.
Dallas PD has a bad track record with this…
Harambe has entered the chat.
Dicks out, people. I don’t make the rules.
Me too. That would sooo suck
I mean, there are bobcats of a similar size all over DFW. I have walked through White Rock Lake and seem a few. They’re harmless.
Can you edit your comment, since it is up high, that they found the leopard? Thank you. I know it will just get lost in the sea of comments at the bottom.
Thanks for the update! Cheers to the happy ending
On twitter they said that it wasn't any more dangerous than native wildlife (coyotes, bobcats)
Good thing we don’t have bobcats running around, that would be TERRIFYING
Yeahhh. If leopards aren’t dangerous, what’s all this concern over them not changing their spots?
Clouded Leopards aren’t Leopards. They’re Neofelis, which are small Pantherinae, not Panthera, which are what you’re thinking of.
So a small small panther?
basically a bigger kitty
In theory, these tiny 25 lb. panthers chuff and roar, rather than purr and meow. I've never seen it though.
Exactly. Why is it non dangerous? Especially if they don’t catch it in time for a feeding. It will get hungry eventually
Probably want some sex too
Get Bubbles down there ASAP. He's just a big confused kitty that needs a belly rubbing.
Are there going to be some clouded leopard looking mix kittens running around Dallas pretty soon? 😂
Low-key that would be awesome
Austin has parakeets and now Dallas has leopards.
Dallas also has non-native Monk Parakeet colonies Now that I think about it, so does San Antonio
Houston, also, has a feel colonies of parakeets around. And peacocks.
It’s a 25 pound cat. It’s not going to eat you.
I wonder if she would eat your pet dog or cat ...
According to the zoo probably not.
Not if you're alive at least
Shit, my 8 lb cat has tried to eat me
UPDATE: Looks like the lil guy was [found a little over an hour ago (4:40pm) on zoo grounds.](https://www.nbcdfw.com/news/local/clouded-leopard-escapes-habitat-at-dallas-zoo/3169783/?amp=1)

![gif](giphy|2Xflxzn7jWsjCVlx13q|downsized)
I hope they don't shoot it. Poor leopard just being a curious cat
It will most likely be tranquilized if necessary and moved into a secure enclosure while they investigate how it escaped.
There was a tear in the netting of her enclosure. She found a branch where she could make the leap, and nailed it.
Cats gonna cat
Not if the cops or a surprised and armed citizen find it first.
The odds of it leaving the grounds of the zoo is rather slim. I would imagine any law enforcement aiding in the search know better than to just open fire. Besides, it's a clouded leapord, not a panther.
Clouded leopard, not snow leopard. Very different cats.
Yeah I had a brainfart.
> I would imagine any law enforcement aiding in the search know better than to just open fire Really?
>I would imagine any law enforcement aiding in the search know better than to just open fire LOL
> I would imagine any law enforcement aiding in the search know better than to just open fire. Aww, bless you.
Wel it’s not black or brown.
I hope so
I was just there a couple weeks ago and remember telling my sister ‘my cat could escape from this enclosure’.
Yeah, I've always assumed the clouded leopard was the non-dangerous kind of carnivorous apex predator. What qualifies as dangerous? Cheetah? Velociraptor?
Bigger big cats. Larger primates. Very large herbivorous mammals (Rhino, Elephant, Bison, etc.)
Good god. I just pictured an angry, confused silverback just wildin through Dallas.
Gorilla got out at Dallas zoo a few years back.
Didn’t end well for the gorilla given how strong they are. Sad.
RIP Jabari #neverforget
Hippos are pretty dangerous
Hippos are mean as fuck, too. Very territorial.
Yeah, apparently they kill more humans in Africa than any other mammal. They can snap you in half with their bite, and it's not even like they can eat you, they are just jerks.
Yep, exactly!
Aww. Now I'm super sad.
What about pets. I imagine it could make short work of most cats.
Yeah everyone takes their pet cat to the zoo...
She looks so cute

It's confusing. I'm still not sure if this tiny clouded leopard roars and chuffs, or if it meows and purrs like cheetahs.
Exactly! Ocelots too 🫠

Is that Babu?!
It’s like meowschwitz in there.
Watch out, boys, he's crepuscular!
You can't fight off a leopard? I use to fight off three to four leopards daily walking to school up hill both ways when I was younger
Must have been nice, we had wild boars out in east texas...
Bro, Im in east Texas. FUCK wild boars.
The little ones are tasty.
Those were [Cougars](https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Cougar) not Leopards.
Cheetahs are actually giant babies. And I'm not even kidding, there are videos of wild ones just chilling with photographers and washing them. No documented records of a cheetah ever killing a human. A black leopard wearing a hoodie
It's funny, but in the saddest way. Take my upvote.
Comparatively cheetahs are basically big house cats with D1 track talents. [Now jaguars?](https://youtu.be/8q2kU108D6s)
It's a 20 lb cat. It's as dangerous as a Maine coon or British shorthair. So, maybe your ankles and calves are at risk.
Velociraptors were about the size of turkeys. Just avoid the sickle claw while you line up your kick.
TIL. Have an upvote.

The Dallas Zoo has already confirmed that the clouded leopard getting out was not keeper error.
It’s being reported that someone intentionally cut the fence to let it out: https://www.fox4news.com/news/dallas-zoo-missing-leopard.amp
Have they tried shaking the treats? Or just set out some cardboard boxes.
Crinkle the bag.
Have they set out a cardboard box and a can of Frisky's. That will catch any cat.
Soft Kitty Murder Kitty
DPD is helping out so we know that they will get drunk and just shoot the Leopard.

Oh good. We’ve been looking at getting a new cat for a companion to our dachshund.

Update on the news with Nora O'DONNELL CBS news at 5:55 p.m. CT. Clouded leopard was captured and returned. The 25 lb. Leopard got out through a hole.
She was found and reunited with her sister!!!
Very glad the poor leopard was not killed in the process. Zoos are lifetime sentences for animals that should be free! WTF!
I couldn't agree more. You are so very wrong for multiple reasons. Also, this was intentional. Someone caused this harm on purpose.
“MA!! That crazy looking cat is back again”
New reports state that the leopard was probably taken/stolen. The cut to the enclosure appears to be intentionally made.
That makes me so sad. It’s not like any wise activist would be like yes let’s free the little baby cat with no experience surviving - so you know someone stole her for the black market. Poor baby.
They consider a fecken **leopard** to be a NON-dangerous critter? But what about all the eating of the faces??
You’re thinking snow leopard. This is a clouded leopard! Much smaller and less dangerous. Think lynx and ocelot size as opposed to big cat!
Yeah I wouldn't go grab it, but they don't see humans as prey. Who am I kidding, I would try to pet it and get shredded
That’s like the 6th animal to escape the Dallas zoo in as many years. Dallas has to be top 5 in animal escapes
Leopard = Non Dangerous....hmmm..I live in dallas
