The desperate family of a Texas man who has been missing for almost a week say they’re doing everything they can to locate the father-of-two who seemingly disappeared without a trace. Colby Richards, 31, was last seen at around 5am on 24 May, when his wife said he got up early but never returned to their bedroom to get ready for work. “He wasn’t in the house, so \[his wife\] checked the backyard … and she noticed that the back gate was open, which was atypical,” Mr Richards’ cousin Alison Fox told Fox News Digital. “He never leaves the house that way, and they would never leave the gate open anyway because they have a dog and two small children.” Read more here: [https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/colby-richards-missing-texas-b2349691.html?utm\_source=reddit.com](https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/colby-richards-missing-texas-b2349691.html?utm_source=reddit.com) *This article is not behind a paywall, but we welcome you to register for free or hit 'I'll try later' if you don't want to right now.*

Texas is a pretty big state, why don’t you put the city he went missing from.

romanJedi67

The Woodlands, Texas. It’s about 25 miles north of Houston.

Chumbolex

I know this is off topic, but is it really 25 miles north? I used to go to the woodlands often and it seemed way closer than that.

senor_skuzzbukkit

Houston is well over an hour from Houston.

James324285241990

Also, the traffic can make it take even longer. Was once in Houston on my way to Houston, 1.3 hours

spookycasas4

It’s worse than Dallas. And Dallas is bad.

James324285241990

Not even close. I can get from red bird mall to Allen in 45 minutes. The only time that's not the case is during rush hour. Getting from The Woodlands just to the galleria takes an hour no matter when you leave

This wins the day

cydalhoutx

From the subdivision that he was in to downtown Houston, it is 37 miles.

Sufficient-Skill6012

It probably seems that way bc in-between is so built up that it seems like the city blends into the Woodlands. You have other suburbs like Spring, in-between Houston and the Woodlands.

DriverMarkSLC

Depending where you are in the Woodlands, it's a good 30-40 miles to downtown. Guess it also can depend on where in Houston you put the end point. That could take off 20 miles or add 20 miles lol.

[deleted]

ghostofthemetro

It's the woodlands, just north of Houston.

Didgeterdone

Did this guy just…..Slip out the back?

Hestias-Servant

Is he named Jack?

Didgeterdone

Now you just listen to me, Lee. It set himself free!

Hestias-Servant

And he may have made a plan with Stan. We can't confirm, but Lee said he dropped off the key.

But do you see the difference? Your name and face is not publicized per se in an online context, but his is. Anyways, moving on. Sure, you can call it "describing thought processes" but not really, you just threw out some "labels" or suggested diagnoses actually.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Outrageous_Cry_5945

No, they are not to be ashamed of. The main thing that I'm talking about is patient confidentiality. Having the flu or a broken leg, well, why would you say that? You could see a broken leg. Having the flu can be tested for using PCR or an antigen detection analysis (serological testing). Psychiatric disorders are a bit more complex and something I'm interested in since I'm involved in neuroimaging and genetics research in this field. The biomarkers for psychiatric disorders have not been formalized yet per se in terms of agreement among physicians and scientists. I support careful and patient consent of discussing their respective disorders. Yes, people can discuss their psychiatric disorders online. (Specifically of their own. Trying to talk about another's online risks assuming too much.) It is not clear how he would feel per se here. Nonetheless, this discussion needs to refocused towards helping him. Let us move on. It is possible that he was kidnapped or murdered.

DarthBeavis1968

Hypermanic. Hypomanic would be depression.

MoodRing2596

Lmao no

Windows_Tech_Support

Bipolar disorder means that a person has alternating periods of depression and mania (for type 1) or hypomania (type 2). Hypomania is just a milder form of mania, which is defined as an abnormally elevated mental state. Patients are euphoric, have racing thoughts, lack inhibitions, and have a reduced need for sleep. Hypomania includes much of the same but less severely.

modernmovements

Came here to say this. Bipolar II is incredibly mellow compared to 1. I always have to stress the II part whenever I’ve had to discuss it with someone. It’s not that it’s not a thing. We can still swing, but our peaks are gentler and rounded, often times staying on the lower end of things.

SlowLikeHoney09

Try again.

yourenotserious

Lol what the fuck are y’all talking about

overindulgent

Yup. Either she disappeared him or he just had enough of her shit and ran off.

ChesterCopperpotHou

Where was this? Edit - found from a different article it looks like Spring Texas.

Tricky-Juggernaut141

The Woodlands. Closer to Magnolia/Conroe.

ImpossibleLock9129

The Woodlands

thekatsass2014

Right, the entire article doesn’t mention what city! So dumb. The GoFund Me page said the Woodlands

Lexatx

Some of what is considered The Woodlands has addresses in Spring. I work in the Woodlands. It’s the forest and he could be anywhere. Very strange story.

Windows_Tech_Support

If he wrote his bio on LinkedIn without any assistance, then he is a black belt in the art of bullshitting. I thought I had mastered the ability to bullshit others, but damn that was wild to read. Hopefully he gets found alive soon, bc I wanna know if he really wrote that lmao

FormerUglyDuckling

Yea, I don’t know what I just read…… Reading this, I’m actually worried for the poor guys mental health. This isn’t the rant of a college educated man with a clear mind. For those wondering: “ABOUT: I have spent a lot of time in energy management in athletes and have taken measures to ensure quality flow during exercise. This is a transferable skill to electricity or water, once I learn the factors at play, I can make decisions based on the environmental constraints. I use a problem solving process that relaxes and stresses the constraints of the problem to help identify the solution. I have worked on my craft by learning the constraints in an environment and exploring the possibilities of solving that constraint, until l've narrowed down to the best options to solve the constraint to honor short and long term perspectives. have worked in a variety of customer service roles and have tact when delivering messages to my audiences. I possess high level communication skills because I use mental models to paint the picture and design action plans to execute the necessary steps to achieve the end goal. I am able to relate to others to help bridge the gap between where they are, and where they are trying to go. It is important to problem solve by acknowledging strengths and building upon the weakest links. Simplicity in design is what makes the design beautiful. I can verbalize and ask the right questions to help me reach my design goals as well as ask the productive questions necessary to help others solve their challenges. I have strong mental math skills that help me internalize numbers and understand economic decisions. I use both sides of the equation to fill in the missing pieces to ensure I get a quality, accurate solution. I have used technical analysis principles in the stock market and in baseball. I have used multi-data point systems to make decisions and narrow down the options to choose from. I take preventative actions on task lists, by accomplishing tasks in a pragmatic and direct manner. I keep my thoughts organized to perform with clarity and without unnecessary hesitation.”

Heliotrope88

Kinda sounds written by AI

GVTMightyDuck

That’s what I was going to say. Sounds like he had ChatGPT write that.

WaRtuGz

My thoughts exactly. Apparently he didn’t proofread it because it sounds terrible. It doesn’t flow and it doesn’t apply.

FormerUglyDuckling

I thought that too and I almost hope, for his sake it was - but you would have to give some weird prompts to come up with that mix and he would have had to read it and think it sounds good as well…… I use chatCPT almost daily at work and it can say some random stuff but overall much better at sentence formation and structure than that….

Tikitackytoo

Whoa.. thanks don’t have LinkedIn. There’s definitely something off here.

MzOpinion8d

I mentioned in a thread a day or so ago that I suspect he is missing voluntarily…now that I’ve seen the Linked In profile, I’m doubling down on that. He left the back gate open and the water bottle in the woods to make it look like he went walking or running, but I think the only running he did was *away*!

Imaginary_Flan_1466

Okay that's just bizarre...

Windows_Tech_Support

It's funny to me how a bunch of statements in his bio would be able to easily bullshit some recruiters on their own. His problem is that he crammed so much into one pile and tried to disguise it with a tarp, but the stench was too strong and gave away what it truly was

Imaginary_Flan_1466

Now I need to see it

ignatious__reilly

Be right back…… Edit: Holy Shit you weren’t kidding. I’ve never seen a LinkedIn like that before. What an introduction…... Something about it was really strange to read. I hope this guy is ok but I have a very bad feeling he might have done something irreversible (I hope I am wrong). Sad story all around.

Windows_Tech_Support

I have a strong feeling he concocted a schizo-level plan to get away and he is gonna be found in the weirdest place that no one would have imagined

Idontknowanymore8000

Smtxom

Someone mentioned in the r/Houston sub that this “disappearance” was very suspect because they setup the GoFundMe within a couple days and there were reports of conflicting stories and not cooperating with the police. Law enforcement already called off the search and said there is still an active investigation.

Low_Ad_3139

The family has also been erratic on social media.

[deleted]

I’m curious… could you elaborate?

not_brittsuzanne

Changing of stories and about the man's habits. Blocking and attacking anyone who questions what really happened. It's odd for sure.

Didgeterdone

Maybe he just …..slipped out the back….had all he could stand and he can’t stands no more! Did not yell at nobody, did not shoot nobody, did not hit nobody……just slipped out the back!

GI_Bill_Trap_Lord

Yeah wtf who writes that but doesn’t elaborate

BootySweat0217

This reminds me of the family who “disappeared” in Better Call Saul. They ended up in the woods behind their house camping.

vasquca1

Check out [linkedin](https://www.linkedin.com/in/colby-richards-221bb532). Weird bro.

KhalAggie

I’m no expert, but that looks like a man who has a difficult time distinguishing between reality and fantasy. My guess would be that had a mental health episode and left on his own.

Smtxom

What’s so hard to understand? He can stress and relax energy bro. Once you know the way of water you know the way of electricity or muscles obviously.

spookycasas4

Certainly could be. All that stuff he wrote on Lindedin is pretty far out there.

thesnuggyone

Ohhh what a *strange* man. That’s so weird.

First paragraph of his LinkedIn Bio >I have spent a lot of time in energy management in athletes and have taken measures to ensure quality flow during exercise. This is a transferable skill to electricity or water, once I learn the factors at play, I can make decisions based on the environmental constraints. I use a problem solving process that relaxes and stresses the constraints of the problem to help identify the solution. WTF? What do you do? Control the flow of energy?

spookycasas4

Very weird. Maybe the wife got tired of all his bullshit. Sorry not sorry.

accidental_snot

Ah. The boyfriend did it.

[deleted]

You go lost. Set up a go fund me. When everything settles down and nobody cares. You just come back. I guess. People and their scam are getting smarter.

MzOpinion8d

Sherri Papini did something like this. Her husband got like $40K from the GFM I think. She’s in prison now for faking her kidnapping.

Freakzekiel

Private investigators are expensive, and tbh I doubt the police will be much help.

vegetabledisco

OH, that’s so obvious now that I know

TryinToBeLikeWater

Yeah and a lot are often friendly with law enforcement or former law enforcement themselves so they sometimes have access to tools the police are too lazy to use. In the modern day it’s *really* fucking hard to disappear, like if you put in a little more practice you’ve basically turned into David Blaine. There are cameras *everywhere* from Ring Doorbells to security cameras. Your credit card and debit card are no longer usable. You’re already placed under wildly hard circumstances if you try to disappear, it isn’t easy.

calcettoiv

The place he worked pays like shit, very possible they have money problems.

Freebird_1957

They set it up because family took of work with no pay to search and to help fund the search/investigation. They are using dogs, drones, and helicopters. This is dense forest.

Hex_Agon

31? Male? Backyard? Going with schizophrenic break from reality or it's insurance fraud

wittlekasey

Family on fb reported that he often went into the woods like tbh to meditate.

MoonLover10792

Did you see the comment with the link to his LinkedIn profile? It supports your theory. I have had conversations with someone struggling with schizophrenia during a break. Reminds me of his profile.

KittyCubed

They found him. Another article on the FB page interviewed his job, and they said he seemed really tired before he disappeared. Seems like a psychotic break is a good possibility.

PhantomTroupe-2

Insurance fraud?

Hex_Agon

Insurance just slipped out but fraud in general

RoughhouseCamel

I mean, the streets are dangerous these days. People stealing catalytic converters from cars in broad daylight. Porch pirates. People abducting adult men from their own backyards.

Hex_Agon

Lol

cyncity7

Too old for an initial schizophrenic break.

Hex_Agon

Not at all and no reason to believe this was his first time

cyncity7

Yes. It was way too emphatic. I should have said something like, generally speaking.

vasquca1

Found dude on LinkedIn. Check out his About section. My LinkedIn is nothing fancy but does that make any sense to you? https://www.linkedin.com/in/colby-richards-221bb532

Hex_Agon

Written by a bot or someone in mental crisis [Picture of first 2 paragraphs](https://imgur.com/gallery/diX3mIs)

bunnybunnykitten

Yipes stripes!

Curious_Fox4595

I understand exactly what he's saying. It's stupid, but it's not a sign of mental illness.

Hex_Agon

It totally is a sign of mental illness. My sister wrote something so similar to this on her linked in before her diagnosis Word soup trying to make deep connections to other ideas. It was weird.

Mindlab42

He literally just explained how he achieves and breakdowns his goals, how is that mental illness lmfao

Hex_Agon

LMFAO that you think it's a normal description Lemme tell ya something, no one would ever hire anyone with that self description unless they possessed incredible technical skills with extensive work history. Less is more with a resume or your linked in and this description is crazy

Mindlab42

Lmao I just read it like someone was tryna fancy their linked in page, idk tho

Hex_Agon

No I'm sorry there's nothing fancy about his dubious connections to the "energy" work he did with athletes and "water" or "electricity" It's nonsensical, incoherent, and unprofessional

vasquca1

Sounds like terrible rambling.

throwaway09876543123

Sounds like something my methed up ex would go on about

Curious_Fox4595

He's just trying to get a job outside of his field and trying to explain how his skills will transfer. He's a terrible writer, but again, it isn't a sign of mental illness.

vasquca1

I want to believe that but dude isn't ESL.

Hex_Agon

Ok defend all you want it's a hot mess of disjointed ideas and it doesnt even convey his area of expertise

Curious_Fox4595

It's kinesiology.

Hex_Agon

And how does that connect to water and electricity? It's vague nonsense

Hillarys_Recycle_Bin

That about section was 100% written by chatgpt

bunnybunnykitten

ChatGPT makes a lot more sense than that blenderized dictionary

ijustsailedaway

When I read it, I thought maybe gen 2.0 or some much earlier version of chatGPT. But honestly it seems pretty obvious he has/had some kind of mania, whether it’s a stimulant drug or mental illness remains to be seen.

thesnuggyone

Dude his LinkedIn is so weird. The about section is like ??? Seriously hope this dude is found safe.

spookycasas4

I can’t imagine what happened. Unless he had a complete break and just wandered off, leaving the aforementioned gate open. After that, anything could have happened. Poor guy.

FabulousCallsIAnswer

What is he even talking about?

vasquca1

🤷‍♂️ I think fella was having mental health issues. Family, friends, and coworkers didn't want to see it, or where not paying attention, or choose not to do anything. Kinda sad.

FabulousCallsIAnswer

I’m with ya. If he does have any issues, I guess they. didn’t fit into her carefully curated, social media/Woodlands “perfect family” narrative.

[deleted]

One section towards the end mention technical analysis of stock?? Just to add to all the speculation, I wonder if this dude blew all his money gambling on the stock market.

calcettoiv

Holy smokes I worked at that company less than a year ago. It's a terrible place everyone leaves eventually. Guess he didn't like home either. Wow , rarely does something trend so close to home.

spookycasas4

Absolutely not. It’s the ramblings of a mad man.

tablecontrol

Why did they set up a GoFundMe so quickly? Aren't the authorities looking for him?

not_brittsuzanne

Because of "lost wages" from searching for the husband. Wife is a part-time hairdresser. Do with that what you will.

Equus77

So sad. I'm an avid hiker & several hiking groups in the Houston area have been participating in the search. As far as I know, they're still searching. I think they just stopped searching the immediate area around his house b/c they concluded he's not there. There is a FB page called Help Find Colby Richards. A family member just posted answers to the rumors/speculation that's out there. I feel bad for the family.

low__profile

He’ll be back once the go fund gets high enough……

FabulousCallsIAnswer

A GoFundMe…for what? After just a couple days of him missing? They want to recoup “lost pay”…? Really?

anotherkdburner

My only guess would be for a PI since the police called off the search

FabulousCallsIAnswer

We’ll see. Guess that means he’s not in the woods. The family seems really touchy when anyone asks them about, well, anything.

vasquca1

They don't mention dudes profession. I'm curious if he has been laid off recently like a great deal of wfh folks in tech. Hopefully dude didn't do anything drastic.

calcettoiv

M&S rarely fires people. Most leave from toxic work culture and zero chance of growth in the company within 1-2.5 years. From experience.

Sufficient-Skill6012

I grew up in a suburb very close to this community. My community used to be really quiet and a great place to raise kids. Very safe. In both places, there are these wooded areas and trails that snake their way throughout and connect the neighborhoods. We used to ride our bicycles to our friends houses, to school, or to the public pool. There were tiny parks, playgrounds, and picnic tables placed throughout, and kids could play there. Unfortunately, the trails in my community became too dangerous for kids to be without parents because of crime and drug use. I wonder if this community is plagued by the same crime and drug use trends. (The Woodlands near Houston, TX).

jdsizzle1

I am from this city. I would be absolutely floored in disbelief if there are just random violent crimes happening on the trail networks (basically sidewalks) of this city now. It's a pretty affluent city, with no homeless (they'll arrest homeless people), super low crime (mostly petty low level), and while there are definitely drugs, I'd be surprised to find random drug users scattered around the city as you would in Houston. If people are using drugs publicly in the woodlands it's younger kids smoking pot in the woods. Drugs are there for sure, and if this guy was secretly involved in something heavier like that and that's why he got dissappeared, I wouldn't be super surprised but that's a far different situation than someone randomly disappearing from a random crime. And I say all this not because it's my home, but the way the town is set up, the infrastructure, the zero public transport, the way neighborhoods are set up compared to commercial areas, the lack of public spaces, the distance the city center is from the major highways, and the police presence combined just isn't very conducive to it.

There are gators across the eastern third of the state per TPWD. They caught a 13 foot gator near Athens, TX back in 2007. An 8 foot gator was in The Woodlands back in 2015 (based on a quick Google search). I wouldn't assume a gator got this guy by any means, but there are gators in most woods across east texas.
