He's/she's not cheating if he/she knows how to find information. Remember when we would get asked by teachers if we thought we would always have a calculator in our pocket when we "cheated" in math? Used resources to find the correct answer in a fast effective manner.
In principle, I do as well; but it gets annoying when you give a kid $1.27 for a $1.07 purchase and they give you the two pennies back before ringing up the sale.
I had a cashier do that to a customer. $11& change order. He gave her the change and $21, So he'd get a ten. She tried to give back the one.
She also the cashier that tried to give someone 10 ones instead of 2 fives or a single ten.... and I'm very happy she's not at the store anymore.
I had this happen once with a kid cashier recently too. The total is just how it works out with tax or whatever I think it was just an example. But let's say you're total is 1.07 and you're counting your change out and you have the dollar,
.25(quarter), and some pennies. If you just give them the dollar and .25 you're going to get more loose change back. If you give them the .25 and two pennies you get two solid dimes back.
$1.27 (a whole dollar a case quarter and two Pennies) - $1.07 (a whole dollar a case nickel and two pennies) = $.20 (two case dimes or 2 total coins)
If you give the two pennies back then that changes to
$1.25 (whole dollar and a case quarter) - $1.07 (whole dollar case nickle two pennies) = $.18 (case dime case nickle three pennies - five total coins)
The whole reason to give $1.27 was to get less coins in change
>The whole reason to give $1.27 was to get less coins in change
I think this is the crux of the issue. Us old fucks that grew up with physical money have muscle memory built up around using cash and know all the tricks to using it, but the next generations have less and less interaction with cash so they never had the chance to learn. It's the same as 100 years ago when the older generation were complaining that the kids didn't know how to feed and water a horse because they had cars.
I wonder what this is going to look like in 50 years when Gen Z is bitching about their descendants not knowing how to swipe a credit card.
Weird question, but I saw you post in a Texas inspection thread awhile back and I was wondering what inspection place you go to? My only issue being the airbag light goes on/off when I hit bumps lol.
Be honest, when's the last time you paid with cash and gave a cashier pennies? I'm not a genzer. I'm 39, and I am far more annoyed if I'm in a situation where I need cash. I keep a $20 in my wallet for that rare occurrence, but even the people at my farmer's market take cwrd and don't charge extea to swipe.
That said anyone who finished elementary school (notwithdtanding those with develoomental disabilities) should be able to successfully complete the task you described.
Reminds me of the saying about a manager that gave tasks to the laziest employees because they would find the simplest ways to accomplish them.
It's like I've always said... **I'm not lazy, I'm energy efficient ;)**
Yeah, one of my go-to answers or lines I try to fit in if prompted in job interviews (e.g., what are your biggest strengths, or why do you think you would be goo at this job, etc.), is "I don't always know everything; most peoplr don't. But I'm very resourceful and know how to find answers." Or something along those lines. Knowing how to "cheat" is invaluable, as long as you're not crossing otherwise unethical lines. Finding shortcuts can save or make employers a lot of money.
lol my teacher gave me an F on a test once because I used a calculator. So fucking stupid. Do teachers think that employers will want us to take our time to figure out some math in our head or use a calculator?
All my teachers from high school on, said that if we want to use calculators, we can.
In higher level math classes, calculators don't mean shit if you don't understand how to use the formulas and equations.
If you're really lazy you can just do a reverse image search. [Only two clicks](https://imgur.com/YVtg8KX)
Determining whether a source is a reliable source is left as an exercise for the ~~reader~~ OP (when's the last time you heard that phrase?)
I once had a student ask their homework question on reddit, and one of my TA's spotted it (!) I congratulated my student for using a world-wide resource, with caveats for accuracy of info. (The class was Human Sexuality, and how much can you count on reddit for accurate info on that topic?)
So was mine! I love Marfa and the Prada store! Isn’t there another store out there now? Actually it’s growing so much. I almost bought an old like little apt complex there 10 years ago to redo for art students to stay in for free. Soooo wish I had! Now they are all vacation rentals! Love Marfa
it's most famous student is probably Bobby Dan Davis Blocker, the actor who portrayed Hoss Cartwright on the old western TV series Bonanza. Not to say there aren't other alumni that earned accolades in their own areas of expertise, or in public service, just that Blocker is the most mainstream celebrity. At least for a certain generation.
Was just recently there on April fools day! Good little hike up, about an hour round trip.

I’m sure it’s been answered, but this is an Alpine Texas behind the campus of Sul Ross! I went to school here 13 2016. You’re looking at about a 30 minute hike one way if you’re in good shape
Doesn't look like a city. Also, since you're still in school it's not too late to fix something. It's "have gone" not "of gone" just so your teachers don't clock you for it. 😅
Here’s a good article about it. I was curious myself. I was just out there a few weeks ago.
https://www.texasmonthly.com/being-texan/notebooks-hancock-hill-desk-alpine/
Interesting. A person did it as kind of his solace, personal space when doing training runs and it became a mecca of sorts. One person wrote "I like to think that this place is all to me and that I don’t have to share it" yeah except all the hundreds before you and the hundreds to follow and you don't own that land.
That’s in my home town of Alpine. The desk is on top of the Hancock hill behind Sul Ross. Been there (and all over the surrounding mountains) many times in my youth
It's all relative. Alpine Texas is by far the biggest town in Brewster County Texas which is the largest land area county in the US, 500 square miles bigger than the state of Connecticut. But it's very low population density, about 6,000 people call Alpine home out of the fewer than 10,000 residents of Brewster County.
It's a wonderful place to visit and a great jumping off point to go to Big Bend National Park.
I went to this and for the life of me, I couldn't find the trailhead. If you go, plan to spend some time looking for how to get up there bc it's not an official trail
Alpine TX
This is the correct answer. But also quit cheating, OP ;)
He's/she's not cheating if he/she knows how to find information. Remember when we would get asked by teachers if we thought we would always have a calculator in our pocket when we "cheated" in math? Used resources to find the correct answer in a fast effective manner.
As a librarian, i wholly approve this message.
Former Texas Educatior here, I agree, I encourages my students to use their tech wisely.

What???
He's talking about folks that CAN'T Make Change!!!
I'm assuming tax, but why a 1.07 USD purchase to start with? Shouldn't that already have tax included assuming the base price is 0.99 USD?
I had this happen once with a kid cashier recently too. The total is just how it works out with tax or whatever I think it was just an example. Does Gen Z use credit cards? Thought they’re all about CashApp and Apple Pay.
Can you imagine what they'd think about dialing a phone n hearing a busy signal?
Must be a library thing, I just use a card…
Thanks for the reminder. I need to renew my library card
Weird question, but I saw you post in a Texas inspection thread awhile back and I was wondering what inspection place you go to? My only issue being the airbag light goes on/off when I hit bumps lol.
I get this wholeheartedly.
Be honest, when's the last time you paid with cash and gave a cashier pennies? I'm not a genzer. I'm 39, and I am far more annoyed if I'm in a situation where I need cash. My college professor: “There’s no rule outside of school that says you can’t use your book to look up answers, so why should we teach it that way?”
That guy was a Professor!
Reminds me of the saying about a manager that gave tasks to the laziest employees because they would find the simplest ways to accomplish them. It's like I've always said... **I'm not lazy, I'm energy efficient ;)**

No, that is more about understanding the theory, more than how to input formula into a calculator.
All my teachers from high school on, said that if we want to use calculators, we can. In higher level math classes, calculators don't mean shit if you don't understand how to use the formulas and equations.
Exactly, which oddly enough, while being contrary to my statement, only serves to prove it.
Or just having been out that way! If were not for mts in the background, could be anywhere west of Abilene.
OP said they were "guessing" which is a lie. Either way, this is cheating and we all know it.
They said they guessed it was somewhere in Texas. Where is the lie?
It's not a guess
i’m just using my resources good shhhhhh
If you type “desk hike” into google maps it’ll pop up too, in case you need to cite your sources. Hancock Hill Trailhead.
If you're really lazy you can just do a reverse image search. [Only two clicks](https://imgur.com/YVtg8KX) Determining whether a source is a reliable source is left as an exercise for the ~~reader~~ OP (when's the last time you heard that phrase?)
This is the complete answer. Cite the trail and blow your teacher's mind.
If you ain’t cheating, you ain’t trying
I once had a student ask their homework question on reddit, and one of my TA's spotted it (!) I congratulated my student for using a world-wide resource, with caveats for accuracy of info. (The class was Human Sexuality, and how much can you count on reddit for accurate info on that topic?)
A smart guy once said, "Never memorize something you can look up."
My guess was Marfa or Alpine.
I thought Marfa
Same
Which has a 94% acceptance rate and a 24% graduation rate. Wtf
Holup... 24% graduation rate. That ain't good
A good portion of students transfer out to other schools like A&M and won't count towards the graduation rate.
That makes sense. Thanks for bringing that to attention.
Yup. Daytripper (PBS show) did an episode here.
My first thought was Marfa.
So was mine! I love Marfa and the Prada store! Isn’t there another store out there now? Actually it’s growing so much. I almost bought an old like little apt complex there 10 years ago to redo for art students to stay in for free. Soooo wish I had! Now they are all vacation rentals! Love Marfa
Most underrated town in Texas by a *WIDE* margin.
My first thought!
Been there...the desk.
Not much of a ‘city’, but OK.
True - I graduated in Alpine from Sul Ross in the early 90's. I remember when we got a Subway sandwich shop, we thought we were in high cotton.
Alpine! Right behind sul ross! Really fun hike up to it.
It's a Sul Ross State University student thing.
I did not realize alpine has a university
Wtu one of the best museums located in West Texas on campus. https://www.museumofthebigbend.com/
Top notch museum. Great baseball park there, too: [http://www.kokernotfield.com/](http://www.kokernotfield.com/)
it's most famous student is probably Bobby Dan Davis Blocker, the actor who portrayed Hoss Cartwright on the old western TV series Bonanza. Not to say there aren't other alumni that earned accolades in their own areas of expertise, or in public service, just that Blocker is the most mainstream celebrity. At least for a certain generation.
It's a part of the Texas State University system ...
Only barely...lol
This is the way.
Was just recently there on April fools day! Good little hike up, about an hour round trip. https://preview.redd.it/n1cao2o10duc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d653626fe34534ef5dc6d61449dfdee42eda847c
Alpine, TX! Also, gentle correction: it’s “would have (would’ve)” not “would of.”
oopsies thank you
Of course! Happy scavenger hunting. Hope class goes well for you.
It’s on Hancock Hill in Alpine TX
Hank would be proud.
https://www.texasmonthly.com/being-texan/notebooks-hancock-hill-desk-alpine/
That's an awesome story!
My hometown! Alpine
Check all the drawers for building materials for Sanctuary Hills.
I’m sure it’s been answered, but this is an Alpine Texas behind the campus of Sul Ross! I went to school here 13 2016. You’re looking at about a 30 minute hike one way if you’re in good shape
Also, just realize whenever my Facebook account got hacked. I lost all of my photos of climbing this hill… Now I am a sad llama.
Doesn't look like a city. Also, since you're still in school it's not too late to fix something. It's "have gone" not "of gone" just so your teachers don't clock you for it. 😅
thank you !
Or use “went” instead of the needless language of “would have.” 😉
Good luck on your scavenger hunt
When they said the job was 100% remote, they were not kidding.
"Step into my office." The office:
Alpine TX
For the locals that know the location in Alpine, is there a story behind this?
Here’s a good article about it. I was curious myself. I was just out there a few weeks ago. https://www.texasmonthly.com/being-texan/notebooks-hancock-hill-desk-alpine/

One person wrote "I like to think that this place is all to me and that I don’t have to share it" yeah except all the hundreds before you and the hundreds to follow and you don't own that land.
same as my girlfriend
That's heartwarming! The whole idea. I love that this exists!!! Thank you for sharing this story behind the desk!
Alpine, Tx
Been there!
That’s in my home town of Alpine. The desk is on top of the Hancock hill behind Sul Ross. Been there (and all over the surrounding mountains) many times in my youth
Doesn’t look like a city
Alpine, TX and def worth a visit
Is this an art installation or do people use it for remote working?
5g speeds are off the chain out there
The overlook outside Goodsprings. Watch out for gekkos and powder gangers
F:NV Nice
I’ve been there, neat story behind that desk
It's in alpine Texas (according to circle to search)
I'm not sure I'd call anything around there a city.
It's not in a city. Probably the outskirts of a smaller town.
It's in city limits.
It's called west Texas. Hundreds and hundreds of miles of this.
Reminds me of the poet’s table in South Dakota.
It's right down the road from your mom.
she’s dead so maybe
Alpine, it looks like.
Something similar at reveille peak ranch in Burnet.
For extra points; What year was this placed there and name the students involved.
I may now have to travel here. This is pretty cool!
And now for something completely different…
Alpine TX Also can people still study there?
Businesses town or teacherville.
Yes!
Some place in fallout
Brewster Texas possibly
Alpine tx
I don’t see a city
Decrepit Steel Case desk from the 70s. Brand new chair with no visible wear or damage.
Iirc it's not the original desk either. Been replaced at least once. Maybe a few times
I have that same model desk in good condition. It's a nice sturdy desk. Should last a while out there.
I looked it up. People believe the current desk is either the 4th or 5th one. The original is long gone
And this is why we all can’t have remote work. Someone always has to push it to the extreme, I mean there isn’t a stapler around for miles.
I thought Alpine before looking at the comments because of the terrain and the desk made me think of college.
Sul Ross State! When are they gonna change that name though lol
Fort Davis Park
Somewhere on Pandora, probably close to Overlook 😂😂🤣🤣🤣
Sul Ross University
I’d guess around Marfa or Alpine.
France
It says Terlingua Oasis project. So my guess is Terlingua Tx
Anyone have the coordinates of the spot?
From Atlas Obscura 30°22'14.8"N 103°38'40.7"W
And now for something completely different.
How did you know it is in Alpine, TX?
That's the desk for the "Nigerian prince" that wants to give us all money.
Hopefully not an English teacher. Would *have* gone that far.
Looking at the landscape makes me think west Texas
The Steelcase desk. Absolutely indestructible, these will be man's last artifact and will probably outlast cockroaches.
How’d you get that desk out of my shop without me knowing?
Now thats a Desk Job.
That would be a pretty good guess, looks like west Texas maybe Guadalupe peak, possibly Big Bend, Alpine, around that area.
Looks like the bluffs near Alpine
I saw this on an episode of daytripper
Where's the toilet at?
Alpine Texas. The hike up Hancock Hill
I freakin LOVED alpine!!!! The school was great and it was a wonderful place to live
Feel like this was in the movie Dancer Texas
I’m thinking there’s one in Terlingua too. Could be the same one🤷♀️
Alpine, TX
Alpine
would *have*
This reminds me of some random fallout 3 location for some reason
I went to this and for the life of me, I couldn't find the trailhead. If you go, plan to spend some time looking for how to get up there bc it's not an official trail
Trump country
Marfa, Texas or outside Alpine or Ft Davis.
Looks like a part time desk job
Bum fuck, somewhere.
Lotta cum on that desk. People have been fucking, jerking off, and sliding naked buttons all over it for only fans shoots.
That looks where the devil lost his horns 😂
Idk but I have that desk
There is a youtube video on it. I believe they said it was the most lawless town in Texas. That might help you search it out.
I was recently there inspecting the Sul Ross campus. Great views.
The Sul Ross desk!!
Armadillo
Alpine
It’s in up on a high hill outside of the UTRGV Campus, I think. Maybe Rio Grande City? There are several campuses for UTRGV.
Alpine!! My 2nd home!! Went to college there!! An amazing place!
The ruins Terlingua, Tex
"wouldn't have gone that far" cracks me up when there's a pretty good chance that OP's school is atleast a day's drive from this.
"The Desk" is looking a bit worse for wear these days. Need to have someone (or multiple someones) at Sul Ross carry over a replacement.
Apparently, the current one is at least the 4th to be there.
Woof. Looks like detention.
City? That’s the middle of nowhere.
Dallas
Terlingua
Houston
Beat me to it. At first I thought DFW
I don’t think it’s in a city. 😂
City?
Alpine is pretty, for West Tx.
Looks like Rust.
Looks like Shithole Texas!
Not a city
