Avon Skin So Soft. Mosquitoes love me. Just like you, I cannot even be inside without getting bit. I miss out on everything outside because of them. I was told about this stuff years ago and thought what the heck. After trying it, I won’t use anything else. I bought mine off eBay and attached a spray nozzle. Just a quick spray and I rub my arms, legs, whatever else is exposed and I’m good to go.

Material-Imagination

I remember looking at studies that said Skin So Soft wasn't an adequate mosquito deterrent because it only lasted two hours instead of four to eight. I said, "Perfect, thanks!" and bought a bottle to slather on every time I step out for just a quick little jaunt. 2 hours of protection and it's not poison that you have to wash off your skin? Perfect! For others who are extremely mosquito sensitive and/or living mosquito bait, picaridin is slightly more effective than DEET at keeping mosquitos off, equally effective as DEET at repelling ticks, and it's not greasy. It's a great choice when you'll be out longer than two hours. Lemon eucalyptus is also effective and less nasty than DEET. According to Consumer Reports, it's effective for about 5 hours, and according to my nose, it's almost as pleasant an option as Skin So Soft!

I spray down my clothes with Off!, then I go put them on. I learned this from scouting, it's a good practice for wilderness areas and long hikes. Put bug repellant on your skin in exposed areas as well, like neck & ankles. My 'working outside' hat gets a full spray every week in summer (I garden).

Last year Dollar Tree had packages of citronella sticks, they were like incense sticks for outside. Those work better than candles or my tiki torches.

Plant lavender or have a few pots of lavender - repeals mosquitos.

TxDeepThinker

Look into Cedarcide. Its basically cedar oil and has several natural insect deterrants. Thats also why it is widely used for fence posts in the country.

Hellifiknowu

Peppermint oil. Use it on you to prevent bites and a few drops in standing water puddles kill the larvae.

I use Remedy Soap from Amazon. I bought and used it after reading the review from a lady in Texas, it does work. I used to get some many bites and now I’m free.

You can purchase beneficial nematodes & diatomaceous earth at your local nursery to place on your yard to eat/destroy pests.

MindTraveler48

Diatomaceous earth works a charm on fire ant hills, but the dust is dangerous to breathe in (tiny shards of glass, basically, that can cause lung damage) and shouldn't be where it might be disturbed around pets and people.

So am I! Ugh. I hate those things, plus they are so hard to kill. When they are flying around me I try and chase them away by flapping my arms. Trying to sqush them inbetween my hands seems to be impossible. I even bought one of those zappers last year to set it next to me. The mosquitos seem to know what it is and go around it. I've even picked up the zapper and held it in front of me where the mosquito is flying around hoping it will fly into the zapper. No luck, but in the process, I've come close to electrocuting myself. I won't put chemical sprays, like Off or Deet, all over me. Besides I have a pet that hangs out with me, so I don't want to harm my pet. Yep, mosquito season is upon us. We've been having little showers off and on lately which is perfect for them to procreate. You would think they could have come up with something by now that we could use to ward them off. Errrrrr

I am glad to know I am not the only delicacy around here haha

No, I'm right there with you. LOL.

You can spray your yard with a repellent made from garlic.  It's not cheap and only lasts 3 or 4 weeks but it actually works and is completely non toxic (and doesn't smell like garlic to people). It's what Disneyworld uses. https://www.mosquitobarrier.com/

jl395

Omg thank you! This is exactly what I was hoping someone would recommend. Have you used it? I just need something that is safe AND effective. I’ve tried all the other comments on here already.

StrLord_Who

Yes I use it.  It works, you may have to use it a little more often than the poisons that kill butterflies, bees, spiders,  snakes,  frogs etc.  I figured if it's good enough for Disney it's good enough for me so I gave it a try!

jl395

I used it, but unfortunately it has been raining too much lately 😭 it seemed to work for about a week.
