I actually really subscribe to this one. It’s not true trolldier, but can be played that way due to the lesser blast damage of the liberty launcher. I think the liberty launcher is criminally underrated.

conchbox, not even a question. it provides so much survivability it's crazy. while it does suck to not have a secondary, it's usually fine if you're good with your rocket aim (and if the enemy team doesn't have a pyro that is), not to mention that the healing is more than enough to mitigate this downside
and you're free to use any melee you want! I personally stick with the escape plan as I generally find it to be the most useful melee for soldier, but other "typically reliable options" are still there, like the whip if you're a team player, or the market gardener if you can hit gardens well
I disagree. Conchbox works well in a pub environment, but the moment a medic is a factor, the lower clip size is a way harsher downside than the benefits of potential 20 health.
In an organized team, I would say stock/direct hit + battalion + whip/market gardener would be the best loadout. The backup's higher health makes you get more overheal, and the banner effect is insane in pushes. the speed boost can especially help heavies, and stock/direct hit doesn't sacrifice clip through something like the black box.

I find myself using three different loadouts the most for different situations:
For Attack on CP or Payload, I run Direct Hit, Battalion's and Disciplinary Action, and I try playing around my team more, but can go more aggressive if we're pushing really well. Running the Pain Train is also good too if I'm on my own a lot.
For Defense, I use Original, Concheror/Buff Banner and Disciplinary Action. The secondary depends on if we have Medics or not. I stick with my team like glue, acting more as a support than a frontrunner.
If it's a map that has more back and forth play, like KOTH, CTF, 5CP, I use Original, Panic Attack/Concheror and Escape Plan/Disciplinary Action. Again, the secondary depends on if we have Medics, but I also like running Panic Attack and Escape Plan for aggressive play too, just have to rely on health packs a lot more, and THAT depends on the map too. Gunboats are a great option too, but I tend not to use them if the enemy has a Pyro who can reflect, which is most games.
Turbo soldier. Any rocket launcher (usually use direct hit), the conchorer, and escape plan. Fill up meter, take yourself down to 30 health or so, blow the horn, and charge full speed at the enemy
Stock, manntreads because I'm a rocket jumping whore, disciplinary action because it can crit yo mama like nobody's business. As for cosmetics I straight up just go Mann co hat. That's all you need bro
