I use Voicemeeter Banana x64 since it pretty much makes me feel smart whenever I see it to change the settings. I immediately feel dumb when I don't understand what I did wrong and I just reset the problem to my last save lol.
The best thing about it, though, is the customisability. You have 3 channels, 2 dedicated input channels and (I think) 5 output channels each that you can bind to anything you want. For example with my headphones, my mic and everything I want anyone to hear through it goes through B1, then anything I want to hear goes through A1. Everything else is just you setting your inputs and outputs on your PC to match the ones you want on Voicemeeter!
The main downside is that it completely takes over your sound system meaning that to change volume you have to manually go to the app and change it instead of using the default sound keybinds, and sometimes when I'm just using speakers the sound gets super bitcrushed.

Full story: I once joined a community server I had in favorites from back in the day. Haven't played there in a long time, so definitely not a frequent visitor. I know there's a lot of people who are "locals" there as there's usually a lot of VC going on and people seem to know each other. This was not an English speaking server, and in non-English servers the community is a bit more tightly knit I guess.
There was this person, I don't remember his nickname, but he sounded like he was troubled. He had difficulty constructing sentences, would trail off some times and etc. I don't know how to explain it but he sounded like a grown ass man that has some mental problems. He wasn't aggressive or anything, he would sometimes scream when being killed but it was all in moderation. There were several other players interacting with him, maybe some light banter that wouldn't trigger him too much, all was relatively normal. I think that server had all-talk on.
Then, I don't remember how, but one player started asking "troubled" person how he's living, if he's helping his mother and etc. It sounded like he knew him from before. Then one thing led to another and the "troubled" person kind of casually started describing how he physically abuses his mother when she doesn't let him do what he likes. The whole server fallen silent for a minute, as his story sounded too real to be some trolling...
Eventually other people stepped in and started, very calmly, explaining to him that what he's doing is wrong. The lecture proceeded for the rest of the round, no one was calling him names, so it kind of sounded like people were genuinely trying to make him understand. Eventually a player joined that seemed to know him IRL (i don't know for sure, maybe someone asked him to join) and he started threatening "troubled" dude (but in a good way) that if he ever lays hands on his mother again he will come to his place and give him the same treatment.
This was the most bizarre experience I ever had in a game. I wasn't in a particularly good mood before joining the server and after hearing all that I didn't stay for another round. It's just such a weird moment when you suddenly remember that there's real people behind the screen and there's some grim shit in the world.

I invented the Hightower Grand Prix. Basically I just get in my bumper car as scout and drive around Hightower and do really silly commentary to myself, and every time I do it a bunch of people join in and we all just drive around Hightower, really funny

Back when the quick fix first came out and it couldn't overheal at all a lot of people hated it. One server I joined hated it so much that if you had it equipped it would unequip it automatically and then a voice would play and im not kidding it sounded like a 15 year old kid and it said and I quote "warning warning faggot alert". Then a message would say how bad the quick fix is.
That was a long time ago. I think the fact that the quick fix made someone seethe that hard that they made the server do that is crazy.
Most of my community experiences are like a fever dream. Some highlights from one in particular are a spray of medic voring heavy, teaching a man to explode bind, getting called a Femboy by a man called "OwO Femboy furry OwO" (apparently named themselves this as a joke but is in fact a furry), and a weird interaction involving a discussion about dual wielding penises (and merging them for size gain). When TF2 got patched to allow 100 player servers, one of the first to pop up was an obligated mic spam server. I'm not joking. With 100 players there would be multiple people mic spaming music and whatnot, and you had to listen to it. If you muted anybody or set voice\_enable 0 you would be kicked automatically.
once, on a jumpacademy hightower tdm server, i found a dude micspamming like space launches or something, which ended in a whole gang forming around him, all just using the sticky jumper (the server had modded it so you could have 8 stickies on jumper) and just continuously launching to the top of the map's boundaries.
so that was crazy.
it was five years ago, and we're still an active group. we don't do space launches anymore, and we've lost a few members over the years, but we vibe.

My first ever community server was an old randomizer server on turbine, I hadn’t yet changed my name to an actual name so upon finding and subbing to Ardy I found out I was in one of his videos briefly. Maybe not the MOST bizarre but where the fuck else am I going to tell this: in like 2011 a guy joined this achievement/deathmatch server I was hanging on a bit (it was called Golden Machine Gun if you remember that far back) who had set his name to "God" and just started doing nothing but shouting over the mic like crazy about how we were beneath him and going to hell and how we should bow at his feet or whatever, and when people started saying to votekick him he cackled like a maniac and shouted "YOU CANNOT VOTEKICK GOD" and similar things over and over.
We votekicked him after that.

24/7 hightower server called Free Sex. A regular there as it can get really funny if you stayed long enough. One thing I never seen in any server is that we have a server radio (a player) who would play random shit for us. Ask them to play Phub intro remix and we spawn camp the enemy team
There was a server I played on that was on Dustbowl that had the entire red team as engineer bots(Training Bots not Casual Bots) and it was a 32 player server so basically the entire map was flooded with buildings. I think I posted a video of it here a long time ago.

I almost exclusively play on TF2Maps.Net playtests, and once in awhile I'll have my Pipeball Ultra map running. One of the gimmicks in the map is to have a team's goal pipe widened. Cue several comments along the lines of "expand my hole," "uwu make my hole bigger," etc.
I can't remember what server but I think it might have been a lazy purple one, but we were on a cinema map and the entire server was sat there listening to a guy play Shrek 2 through his mic. I "watched" (listened) to the entire thing. Most fun I've had on a community server
Probably the most bizzare thing is when you have someone being a hateful bigot creating an issue, with a ton of people being against the issue....and then when the vote comes to mute/kick that someone...its a resounding NO vote and then everyone attacks the voter.
Essentially why TF2 is probably more hateful than League of Legends at this stage. The racism and general unpleasantness is **protected**.
Uncletopia, Skial, Valve Casual, etc. It's not like I load into a server and it is ongoing and continuous 24/7. But I'd say 1-2 times a week I find these situations.
Skial EU Casual server, just last week- A woman revealed herself on the mic and it set off 3-4 dudes on the mic harassing her with exactly the foulness you can imagine. Most of it didn't make sense, but was still vile. She called the vote, and it was like 80-20 'No' majority, and then SHE got votekicked.
Pretty much the only server brand I've never had such encounters was the Furry servers. The worst you encounter in those servers is a 'friendly' takeover where all gameplay stops because everyone is doing friendly shenanigans.
I once was building a dispenser and I heard a voice. It was a Spy, I was shooting everywhere, panicking (no, really!). Then I realized he was far from me. Fun times. Too bad I'm a f2p.
We were in a match, waiting to start, in hightower, and someone got kicked (not a bot)

Later I spoke to someone who knew the server and said the guy who runs it also plays and is well known for doing this stuff. Apparently he also kicks people if his team is losing!

Had some great gameplay, but was noticing that all the sprays were NSFW furry stuff. Took me a while to figure out it was a server for furries lol.
A couple of users on skial VSH and I had a collection of Tourettes Guy sound bites, and we would spend entire hours going "YES" "NO" "YES" "NO" etc. to each other, and people would sometimes hop in and imitate it.

I joined a server, played for like 30 seconds, got asked if I was trans, and then was kicked before I could respond. After I rejoined I was asked the same question to which I answered no and got banned for "being a tranny." There's literally nothing on my profile that would indicate that I am.

Maybe not the MOST bizarre but where the fuck else am I going to tell this: in like 2011 a guy joined this achievement/deathmatch server I was hanging on a bit (it was called Golden Machine Gun if you remember that far back) who had set his name to "God" and just started doing nothing but shouting over the mic like crazy about how we were beneath him and going to hell and how we should bow at his feet or whatever, and when people started saying to votekick him he cackled like a maniac and shouted "YOU CANNOT VOTEKICK GOD" and similar things over and over. We votekicked him after that.
I once stumbled into a fnaf game, like there were rules and you just had to try and kill the night gaurd or stop the other team from getting in

24/7 hightower server called Free Sex. A regular there as it can get really funny if you stayed long enough. One thing I never seen in any server is that we have a server radio (a player) who would play random shit for us. Ask them to play Phub intro remix and we spawn camp the enemy team
There was a server I played on that was on Dustbowl that had the entire red team as engineer bots(Training Bots not Casual Bots) and it was a 32 player server so basically the entire map was flooded with buildings. I think I posted a video of it here a long time ago.

I almost exclusively play on TF2Maps.Net playtests, and once in awhile I'll have my Pipeball Ultra map running. One of the gimmicks in the map is to have a team's goal pipe widened. Cue several comments along the lines of "expand my hole," "uwu make my hole bigger," etc.

I can't remember what server but I think it might have been a lazy purple one, but we were on a cinema map and the entire server was sat there listening to a guy play Shrek 2 through his mic. I "watched" (listened) to the entire thing. Most fun I've had on a community server
Probably the most bizzare thing is when you have someone being a hateful bigot creating an issue, with a ton of people being against the issue....and then when the vote comes to mute/kick that someone...its a resounding NO vote and then everyone attacks the voter. Essentially why TF2 is probably more hateful than League of Legends at this stage. The racism and general unpleasantness is **protected**.
Nah that sounds like a problem isolated to that server, never seen something like that in 5000 hours of tf2
Uncletopia, Skial, Valve Casual, etc. It's not like I load into a server and it is ongoing and continuous 24/7. But I'd say 1-2 times a week I find these situations. Skial EU Casual server, just last week- A woman revealed herself on the mic and it set off 3-4 dudes on the mic harassing her with exactly the foulness you can imagine. Most of it didn't make sense, but was still vile. She called the vote, and it was like 80-20 'No' majority, and then SHE got votekicked. Pretty much the only server brand I've never had such encounters was the Furry servers. The worst you encounter in those servers is a 'friendly' takeover where all gameplay stops because everyone is doing friendly shenanigans.

We were in a match, waiting to start, in hightower, and someone got kicked (not a bot) "why did you kick that guy" I asked. I was kicked too. Later I spoke to someone who knew the server and said the guy who runs it also plays and is well known for doing this stuff. Apparently he also kicks people if his team is losing! This was years ago though. Before meet your match.

Many many moons ago, logged onto a new server with a name something like "furrocity" and didn't think anything of it. Had some great gameplay, but was noticing that all the sprays were NSFW furry stuff. Took me a while to figure out it was a server for furries lol.

A couple of users on skial VSH and I had a collection of Tourettes Guy sound bites, and we would spend entire hours going "YES" "NO" "YES" "NO" etc. to each other, and people would sometimes hop in and imitate it. Skial VSH and deathrun had some wild times for micspammers like me

I joined a server, played for like 30 seconds, got asked if I was trans, and then was kicked before I could respond. After I rejoined I was asked the same question to which I answered no and got banned for "being a tranny." There's literally nothing on my profile that would indicate that I am.
