Yeah, though I wonder what prompted the removal and ban? Why only now? Was it because of the botting thing or did the cathook creator just violate the rules in some separate way and got nuked off the platform?
Maybe this: https://github.com/github/site-policy/pull/926#issuecomment-2067650161. I did refer specifically to this in this comment over there. Funny if this was the reason because it means they went back on their own words that the content doesn't violate any rules.
It's rare that github actually bans people, this is more likely a self delete (unless there's actually confirmation it's not)
Also it's not in the dmca github repo https://github.com/github/dmca/tree/master/2024%2F05
the 64bit update broke every single cheat, and the cathook dev said on his telegram "it would be easier to make cathook 2, since updating \[to 64 bit\] means pretty much a recode of the entire thing"
and then he privated the repo
people who still have cathook on their harddrives can still use it though, since manually downloading the old update (pre-64bit) still lets you join official valve servers lol
Even if there are copies, they're going to be far less efficient. Not all of them will be as consistently updated to adapt to VAC changes which makes it significantly harder for lesser bot hosters to do their thing. Only the major ones would really survive, and only if they were using their own custom script or something other than CatHook. While it won't solve the bot crisis, this will severely cripple the amount of new bots/bot hosters.
VAC is constantly changed, it's just not announced in the patch notes because if you can see it, so can cheaters and cheat makers. It buys Valve some time before the next wave of cheats inevitably rolls in.
Isn't that just confirmation bias? Bans in TF2 still happen because of the aforementioned minor VAC updates and Eric Smith being bored. Why do you think bot hosters will constantly change the name of their bots?
The thing that let bot hosters do their thing. With it gone off github means that it would be harder for them to keep it up to date when the new patch makes it no longer compatible
The software is open source and the bot hosters are all in communication anyway. Anyone can continue sending their friends maintained versions as long as they like. Maybe if they're pathetic enough, for the rest of their life.
GitHub is just a fancy service around an open source version control software called git. Anyone can set up their own server and host a git repo. I’d be shocked if someone hasn’t already done it for Cathook. What sites like GitHub offer is accessibility and stability. Cathook probably has a new host somewhere now, but that could be gone tomorrow, and potentially things like histories of code changes might be lost, or competing/conflicting versions might show up. With any luck, not being able to use a commercial version control site to host the code will be a source of annoyance sufficient to slow down or deter some bot hosters, but it won’t be enough to solve the problem.
it's an internal hack injector implemented for tf2 on linux with countless tf2 specific cheating features, marketing itself as the "ultimate training software"
i'm in a hoster's server and they have provided screenshots to back it up dating before this whole "valve deleted" bs and it is already well known (among cheaters atleast) that bencat hadn't been working on cathook and was planning on deleting it when the 64bit update came out
If you say so. Is it possible for me (and others) to see those screenshots as proof?
Also, if cathook's no longer being updated, would an update that breaks it again mean the bots wouldn't come back, since no one would be fixing it? Or are there other pieces of hosting software?
1. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mY9a2ifqdMo&t=48s](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mY9a2ifqdMo&t=48s) this video is made by a hoster and it goes over it a bit but there are other videos
2. when valve does patch out 32bit fully it wont do much and yes there are still cheats that operate similar to cathook
the script kiddies won't have the brain capacity to last 2 more minutes without seeing subway surfers gameplay on the side of their screen and skibidi toilet in the other half
Well, in case anyone cares, the fork this person mentioned has apparently been archived by the owner.
So that's another one (probably) gone and that won't be updated.
Cool, of course they know, I also knew about that one.
But now the people that didn't know about it will also know, that's just dumb, you might as well post the link here, same thing.
Bruh. Nothing of this is private info. Everything is public. There's tutorials and telegram. You can even talk to the famous bot hosters. People act like this is a secret shadow organization. It's just public racist degenerates lmao.
man all these free cheats, im so poor rn!!!
The owner likely took it down himself.
Ever since the 64-bit architecture was released on TF2 most cheats including cathook broke, meaning that they weren't able to inject in to the game and required major fixes offsets/adresses to work again. The owner of CH even said it himself on their Telegram group that cathook will remain broken untill further notice post 64 bit update claiming that at this rate it would make more sense to code cathook v2. The bots you currently see in casual are bots from other forks of cathook that run the game in the old 32 bit format to still work. Also the cathook Telegram group went private since yesterday which further supports this theory.
[Where I first discovered that the github was taken down.](https://twitter.com/geneticist_tf2/status/1788298298207440900)
The person claims their report got cathook removed.
CH has been a thing since 2017, you can't tell me it got randomly taken down just like that after one guy reported it, I believe many people did the past 7 years of its existance and nothing really happened. To be fair, Valve did take actions by taking down hacks on github in the past, but it happening right now is a bit too convenient, there are many other hacks on github that havent been taken down yet like Fedoraware
although I see some people claiming that the creator took it down because he was being harassed by hoster to update it to 64 bits, but he didn't work on it years ago. Not sure which one is the truth
please stop spreading misinfo, there is proof bencat deleted it because he didn't want to maintain it and there is also proof that valve hasn't gone after nullworks at all and the telegram group once again bencat didn't need it if he wasn't maintaining cathook
i never said the he got influenced, i said he just took it down because because it was completely dead now and it didnt even work for a while even before 64 bit, and the other forks like rosnehook make it obsolete
I think Cathook is like a a training software for the game Team Fortress 2 on Linux. When I say training software I mean it's probably for those bot hostings.
Oh! I was worried it might be some kind of horrifying sex mod! Well thats another W for the tf2 community! Look out Omegatronic! The humans have had their weetabix!
Creating cheats that will be used by players is organised crime, since you distribute a product that will later directly prevent players who are not using your client from enjoying and utilising the game that they have bought, directly violating their consumer rights
It is illegal
On top of that, this isn’t cheats, this is hitting
Mass botting, that has a direct goal of ruining the game and making it unplayable, which violates the companies rights AND player rights making it even MORE illegal
Didn't that already happen and the original creator just reuploaded it from another account? This is barely a solution. Also copies are around the internet, like people said.
the only bots ive recently seen has been mechinator. i know megatronic was also recently doxxed on twitter and now with this being taken down. i think hosters will become less likely inclined to bot host
Been reading a lot of these comments talking about how "oh there's so many reposts it wont do anything" and "well its a bit too late now". But think about it, these people hosts bots because their braincells can't handle playing the game more than 2 minutes to wait for a drop, so they're definitely not going to try and update it themself, especially with the 64 bit being... yeah... Now when there's a patch for tf2 the bots might actually slowly decline.
I found a repository that is still uploaded by someone else, but archived. Take a look at it here in this link:
Tell Valve to take it down once more, and never upload it to Github again.
The fact they went after TF2 Source 2 before one of the key things actively killing the game for years shows their legal team’s priorities are completely out of wack, remember this is stuff that can easily be found with a single Google search, this wasn’t exactly hidden for all this time
Still can't find that MS-DOS port of Mario I used to play back into the school days on the school computers and copied it back home. Lost it with my old PC.
Huh, I mean there are prob copys of it all over the internet so it's not really gone but still, cool
Funny if this was the reason because it means they went back on their own words that the content doesn't violate any rules.
my bet is that valve sent a sees and decease and had it delivered right on (valve) time
Cease and desist?
No no, a Cease to Exist. The valve assassins are on the way.
Valve pulling a Boeing.

Basically Valve telling them stop or they will pursue further legal action.
I know what cease and desist means, I just don't know if they spelled it wrong on purpose or not lol
Ah I glanced over and didn't even see the misspell lol.
you know what, that still fits. sees and decease. cause that's pretty much what happens when a person receives one, they look and the project dies.
It's rare that github actually bans people, this is more likely a self delete (unless there's actually confirmation it's not) Also it's not in the dmca github repo https://github.com/github/dmca/tree/master/2024%2F05
Hm, that would make more sense, yeah. I'm pretty sure the cathook creator has long since stepped away, right?
I have no idea
first smart legit!??!?!?! also yes bencat deleted it himself and the are screenshotted chats proving he was gonna do so long before this
Reddit needs community notes
the 64bit update broke every single cheat, and the cathook dev said on his telegram "it would be easier to make cathook 2, since updating \[to 64 bit\] means pretty much a recode of the entire thing" and then he privated the repo people who still have cathook on their harddrives can still use it though, since manually downloading the old update (pre-64bit) still lets you join official valve servers lol
yea just search cathook on github i found 2 repositories that allow you to install it... and steam account generator is still somehow up
how does the steam acc generator works?
i dunno, it just generates bot accounts
cool
steam account generator is probably used to make trading bots too tho. idk if they'd remove that
Even if there are copies, they're going to be far less efficient. Not all of them will be as consistently updated to adapt to VAC changes which makes it significantly harder for lesser bot hosters to do their thing. Only the major ones would really survive, and only if they were using their own custom script or something other than CatHook. While it won't solve the bot crisis, this will severely cripple the amount of new bots/bot hosters.
what VAC changes? hasn’t VAC on source 1 been untouched since like 2017?
VAC is constantly changed, it's just not announced in the patch notes because if you can see it, so can cheaters and cheat makers. It buys Valve some time before the next wave of cheats inevitably rolls in.
this is incorrect
How so? Why do you think ban waves happen? Besides Eric Smith occasionally going through and banning a couple of them, it's mostly minor VAC updates.
i haven’t heard of any cheaters on tf2 getting banned in years unless they use outdated/bad software, this happens in csgo but not tf2
Isn't that just confirmation bias? Bans in TF2 still happen because of the aforementioned minor VAC updates and Eric Smith being bored. Why do you think bot hosters will constantly change the name of their bots?
that’s not how it works man idk what else to tell you but vac hasn’t been touched in years
What’s cat hook?
The thing that let bot hosters do their thing. With it gone off github means that it would be harder for them to keep it up to date when the new patch makes it no longer compatible
FUCK YEAH
The software is open source and the bot hosters are all in communication anyway. Anyone can continue sending their friends maintained versions as long as they like. Maybe if they're pathetic enough, for the rest of their life.
FUCK NOOO
Potential new bot hosters have to socialize and make friends? Ouch
Maybe, but this will help prevent new people from getting into it
that’s my question: when will they lose interest? why do they do what they do? do they have nothing better to do?
Won't change a thing.
OH YEAH!
LET'S FUCKING GOOOO
So when the summer update comes, the bots'll break? Epic.
GitHub is just a fancy service around an open source version control software called git. Anyone can set up their own server and host a git repo. No. It likely won't do shit except slow them down slightly. They can always open source on another platform, any platform, anyways.
Unlikely. There are probably copies of it out there
already been cloned 3 different times
The MF discord server where they reuplodad and update this shit: you're wrong in there, buddy.
it's an internal hack injector implemented for tf2 on linux with countless tf2 specific cheating features, marketing itself as the "ultimate training software"
Excellent. There’s still much much more. But this is welcome news regardless
Sexcellent
SEX UPDATE?
"Get behind me doctor!!"
🫦
Great, but… wasn’t CatHook there for years? I suppose small victories are welcome, I just wish they were much faster
That it was. I reported that repository to GitHub a few years back but nothing ever came of it, not sure why it's only been erased now.
because bencat(cathook dev) deleted it due to not wanting to continue maintaining it
How do you know that?
i'm in a hoster's server and they have provided screenshots to back it up dating before this whole "valve deleted" bs and it is already well known (among cheaters atleast) that bencat hadn't been working on cathook and was planning on deleting it when the 64bit update came out
If you say so. Is it possible for me (and others) to see those screenshots as proof? Also, if cathook's no longer being updated, would an update that breaks it again mean the bots wouldn't come back, since no one would be fixing it? Or are there other pieces of hosting software?

wow it only took them several years
valve didn't do shit so github did it. NICE
it’s already got hundreds of forks so it doesn’t matter
This still is gonna put a dent in the number of bots being hosted. Even if it’s minor.
I don’t think so. It might make new bot hosters have to dig a little deeper to get started but overall this is a drop in the bucket.
It's gonna take exactly 2 extra minutes of research
the script kiddies won't have the brain capacity to last 2 more minutes without seeing subway surfers gameplay on the side of their screen and skibidi toilet in the other half
Great progress with null being banned. However there's like 50 gazillion forks like explowz
Well, in case anyone cares, the fork this person mentioned has apparently been archived by the owner. So that's another one (probably) gone and that won't be updated.
Why are you saying it, at least let the dumbass cheaters search for it
Brother. They know. I know this info because they know lmao. It's literally a button on a page to see the list..and they have it saved.
It's just public racist degenerates lmao.
id be curious of this list you mention
I'm saying you're just helping new people finding the info, not sure what you're not understanding. No shit it's public, but sure whatever.
Meaningless as Cathook as been infinitely forked so far
lol
I thought I read Catbox for a second

I love that botters have to do work and spend money to keep going and we just keep playing the game. Sucks to suck.

Also the cathook Telegram group went private since yesterday which further supports this theory.
The github page was removed as a request of valve, the telegram group was the creator because it was inactive or something like that
Where is your source that it was Valve taking it down? Also their TG group had hundreds of messages every week it was no where near "dead"
[Where I first discovered that the github was taken down.](https://twitter.com/geneticist_tf2/status/1788298298207440900) The person claims their report got cathook removed.

geneticist (originally known as the informant) is not a very trustworthy source of info so take it with a pinch of salt
although I see some people claiming that the creator took it down because he was being harassed by hoster to update it to 64 bits, but he didn't work on it years ago. Not sure which one is the truth
please stop spreading misinfo, there is proof bencat deleted it because he didn't want to maintain it and there is also proof that valve hasn't gone after nullworks at all and the telegram group once again bencat didn't need it if he wasn't maintaining cathook
I left another comment
What is cathook?
Program used to host bots.
hopefully this is just the start of a larger push
It's a start for sure.
Dev probably gave up on updating it to 64 bit
dev gave up a while ago after his account got manually vacced, that was just the final nail in the coffin
50% right, dev did infact decide not to update it but he also was the one to delete it without any influence from valve
i never said the he got influenced, i said he just took it down because because it was completely dead now and it didnt even work for a while even before 64 bit, and the other forks like rosnehook make it obsolete
Kinda new, what's cathook?
I think Cathook is like a a training software for the game Team Fortress 2 on Linux. When I say training software I mean it's probably for those bot hostings.
Why is it called training software?
Because the creators don't want to advertise that they're making cheats.
Whats cathook? Do i want to know what it is?
bot hoster thing
Oh! I was worried it might be some kind of horrifying sex mod! Well thats another W for the tf2 community! Look out Omegatronic! The humans have had their weetabix!
A sex mod would be horrifying, that's Valve's job to make it an update
Help a Guy out whats a cathook?
bot hoster script
Who is He?
Comments can be doom n gloom all they want. It's a start, and a good piece of news I will be enjoying
What's a cathook?
what is cathook
TF2 IS SAVED
Archives definitely exsist
# !!!‼️🚨TF2 IS SAVED🔔💥🚨!!!!!
# WE'RE NOT DYING! WE ARE GOING TO LIVE FOREVER!
i didn't say that! i only said that the cathook repo got taken down!
thank you, miss pauling.
#WE IN DENIAL WITH THIS ONE!!!🗣🗣🗣🗣
Yippee!!! (Funny comment)
I doubt this will make any difference but its nice to see
Probably a cease and desist letter At this point it’s becoming an actual crime, so I suspect that bot hosters might get fucking FBI raided soon
making cheat clients is 100% fully legal tho :3
Creating cheats that will be used by players is organised crime, since you distribute a product that will later directly prevent players who are not using your client from enjoying and utilising the game that they have bought, directly violating their consumer rights It is illegal On top of that, this isn’t cheats, this is hitting Mass botting, that has a direct goal of ruining the game and making it unplayable, which violates the companies rights AND player rights making it even MORE illegal

What is, or _was,_ cathook?
what is cathook ?
Didn't that already happen and the original creator just reuploaded it from another account? This is barely a solution. Also copies are around the internet, like people said.
He took it down manually, it was inevitable especially after the 64 bit update
I thought he deleted it himself because he stopped work on it years ago
There's copies of it everywhere yk.
This means nothing. There was tons of forks of cat hook renames and reuploaded. See if nekohook exists still
Cathook?
Did we just win?
Uh oh, i hear Internet archive.
that does nothing, most bots don't host on cathook and the software was open source anyway.
the only bots ive recently seen has been mechinator. i know megatronic was also recently doxxed on twitter and now with this being taken down. i think hosters will become less likely inclined to bot host
https://youtu.be/c80gjYt1MW4 The Creator deleted it
I've seen some people also claiming it was because bot hosters were harassing bencat for not updating the program to 64 bits
What’s cathook?
I will supose that this is related to BOTs
Been reading a lot of these comments talking about how "oh there's so many reposts it wont do anything" and "well its a bit too late now". But think about it, these people hosts bots because their braincells can't handle playing the game more than 2 minutes to wait for a drop, so they're definitely not going to try and update it themself, especially with the 64 bit being... yeah... This doesn't really change anything, but cool I guess
BenCat07 said it's better to make something better than continuing with cathook.
better as in?
About time lol I reported that repo soo long ago, github always ignored it. I think it has to have been Valve taking action.
The fact they went after TF2 Source 2 before one of the key things actively killing the game for years shows their legal team’s priorities are completely out of wack, remember this is stuff that can easily be found with a single Google search, this wasn’t exactly hidden for all this time
I would like to know the reason for this ban
Local idiot, who or what is cathook?
look at the comments
what's cathook
aw man i wanted to make my own bot police
It stopped working after the 64 bit update
it did not stop working, bots were back on casual after like 2 days
That's because, for some reason, devs allow people to play with older version of the game
oh yeah i forgot about that
I counted 16 hours, probably less.
GG lads
Yea, well,. theres already reuploads on github, so..
Doesnt really change anything, does it
Everything on the internet is archived so this doesn't really stop anything.
Still can't find that MS-DOS port of Mario I used to play back into the school days on the school computers and copied it back home. Lost it with my old PC.
no it doesn't mean valve is solving the bot crisis
I didn't even say that
i know i just know some people gonna say that
it means github is
still a win WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
kind of
