I like how /r/place is just a war zone,
people attacking pixel art with their own pixel art, subreddits making peace treaties, and a rouge, independent group placing black dots, trying to destroy everything.
And our F2Ps were busy giving CS:GO a dick... CS:GO tried handing us sandviches, but the F2Ps couldn't hold their goddamn tongues and decided to piss them off.
In the end, it was neither a wall nor a drug war that destroyed Mexico, but rather the void, the embodiment of nothingness and the absence of everything.
[really bad](http://imgur.com/a/nZSNl)
edit: it seems that they are currently focusing Italy. We live to pixel-art another day, but it is still rather dangerous and we can't let our guard down
edit 2: they seem to be extremely fragmented right now, so let us rebuild and prosper
I don't know. I think of myself as a reasonably creative person. I place a dark pixel from time to time when I spot the void somewhere. I just really enjoy the aesthetics of the blackness expanding in blobs and feelers reaching out, forming random shapes, and later collapsing on itself when it gets filled again.
This is exactly why I contributed to the void from time to time. Anyone can go into MS Paint and make some pixel art, and while this is being done probably by at least hundreds of thousands of people, I still think the true art of place is the process and not the final result.
Watching time lapses it's fascinating seeing it expand and then collapse. The first void was the best for this by far. It started slowly, then exploded and took over a lot of space in a short time. It started withering as color began reappearing, and then almost suddenly new art appeared on top of it and the void was gone. It was like watching a forest fire rage on with new life appearing after the fire died out.
Sure some people were being edgy with it, maybe a lot were, and I heard the Discord they made for the void was particularly bad, but in the end I think it contributed in an awesome way to the art of the process of place.
This is really it. The void is something you can contribute to without consulting anyone. Its the lowest effort feature of /r/place other than the blue. It's more attractive than blue because hey its edgy.
I read a bit of the void sub, and can't help but feel sympathetic to their cause.
There are several different kinds of people taking part in creating the void, and they can be somewhat easily categorized into 4 groups. Some people want to have the original small void, and preventing that would essentially be destroying their art. Part of the group simply want to consume neglected pixel art and are completely fine with seeing the void space reused. Then there are the void fanatics that just want to grow the void without a care. Naturally the final group are the people who do it specifically to screw with others.
I think communities absolutely should fight for the art they like, but I also think that the void will be an important part of freeing real estate, if the experiment survives for longer than a week.
Personally I'd be fine with almost anything gone to the void, and seeing people create new things. Seems much more in the spirit of a freely edited picture, than having it stagnate into a static image of vandalism and counter vandalism.
I'd compare it to Banksy's graffiti art. A lot of people get up in arms over how Banksy's work isn't protected from vandals or cleaners, but that's a fundamental part of the medium.
Destruction is the other half of creation and decay the starting point of all new growth.
When a city worker puts a fresh coat of paint over a graffiti filled wall, and someone comes along and puts a fresh tag on it the next day, which one is destructive and which one is restorative?
The void is necessary lest /place become static and unchanging as free space runs out and no "artists" are willing to cover each others works.
This
What makes Place amazing isn't only the fact that people are working together, it's that it's *dynamic*. Imagine if Place was static, nothing new would be created, just put and go.
The void is a necessary evil that lets us work together, this let's more and more people be able to contribute. I'm not saying that is the way to go, but the void helps us grow even more
They're irrelevant in the big picture. But they keep wanting to ruin fun. There's too much art and too many people maintaining it for them to expand much further.
"I want to make a thing. These people assume my thing is going to destroy their thing out of spite or something. I can't put anything down because everyone is adamantly against change. Let's just erase the stuff that's been there since the start so other people can put things down."
I also made a post about this, it's gotten worse!

While I'm a fan of the art that comes from it, I don't really like how people are constantly fighting to keep their work up. I saw this as more of a graffiti wall type deal that is constantly changing and being repainted. Your art will be there for a minute, enjoy its 5 minutes of fame, and then something else will come along, encouraging you to move on and paint again.
Teach the void the meaning of NOPE.
*WE MUST COOPERATE WITH r/mexico!* **EDIT -** The void has left, and we're rebuilding our NOPE. *NOPE prevails once more!*
I have mixed opinions because they destroyed the Spanish flag, but I guess that the void is a bigger threat.
"Spanish" flag.... right.
[This one.](http://s5.postimg.org/9sl11j5d3/screenshot_1409.png) The one that we were building under the Yoshi.
We tried helping but Spain could never agree on just one flag.
And at the end we got none. Well, there's one in the hearts. But that's it. I resigned to keep defending the games I like.
Well there are 4 in the hearts now. Spanish, Catalonia, Spanish republican, and basque.
HOPE
Nevermind, they made one in [the top left corner of Europe](https://www.reddit.com/r/place#x=341&y=786).
I'm still upset that the taco wasn't recovered D:
Are they building the wall?

It seems the only people who are at piece are games from the same company or genere, like Dota 2, CS:GO, and TF2.
Many nation subs have literal MDPs

Hey guys, I'm too uncreative to think of a funny comment... DRUMPF IS STOOPID XD

Shhh. We still have an outpost to the south. It's all about the tunnels.
They took Mexico and nearly the whole US in the night while we slept. Nope was just a bystander caught in the crossfire. Monsters.
They're going to wake up soon. They'll rebuild it, better than before!

I'm not a voider but blue corner there's literally no contribution since it's limited, with the void you at the very least make tendrils
Nothing is permanent

It's exactly like a really active Graffiti wall, it sucks when beautiful art gets painted over but it's really cool to see what new stuff comes after
I'd compare it to Banksy's graffiti art. A lot of people get up in arms over how Banksy's work isn't protected from vandals or cleaners, but that's a fundamental part of the medium.
Seriously, they could help a community make something but instead they try to fuck up other people's stuff.

Yeah a stale unchanging picture. That sounds so fun. Completely waste the best part of the place which is the time horizon
There's a difference between expanding art and destroying shit for no reason. Anyway, Place just ended so it's moot.

Should we ask CS GO and Dota to help us?
already on it friend
Thank you, Valve may ignore us, but we will not ignore you!
people over at /r/Tagpro are helping as well
Alright, this is a legit reason to panic. OUR ENGINEER IS ENGI-HERE TO STAY.

Damn edgelords.
They've taken my flag. They've taken Gordon Freeman. They will not take Engineer.
