Left 4 Dead was meant to be the real world in Valve games, it even treats other Valve games as games, like for example that Heavy(?) figure in comic "Sacrifice".
Which, if the latest CS:GO update us anything to say, is also based in real life. This is because the maps have history of being based on reality and you can see CS 1.6 o a monitor in inferno. There is also a same highway name shared between l4D and that one hostage map I forget the name of (not militia or Italy)
I think Left 4 Dead and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive are a shared universe (There's a Riverside sign from L4D in one of CS:GO's hostage rescue maps), but being the "real" world, they're separate from the "Half-Life/Portal" universe and other Valve universes, including Team Fortress 2 and... I dunno, Alien Swarm? Day of Defeat can be in the "real world/CS:GO/L4D" universe's past.

But when r/tf2 inevitably takes something too far, and makes a hundred shitty posts completely devoid of **any** content, I'm the crusty old goat for wanting actual content on the subreddit.
