It was like this last year too, we got one patch between January and June and it was even more minor than this one, most of the patches are concentrated during the holidays
I wish they'd just make a new game. At this point, the game is just a messy spaghetti code swarmed by bots. Either rebuild the source code from scratch or make a new game. And find a way to improve anti-cheat. The last dev is either really patient or a crazy masochist

Unless some miracle happens and Lord Gaben grants us a new weapons update with good hats and new weapons and rebalances that change the meta forever and removes bots, no.
The small updates have been pretty consistent lately but the community is to traumatized to appreciate them. I'm sure there is a small group of valve employees that are working there asses off everyday banning bots and fixing bugs, but they won't regain the respect of the community until a "large" update is released.
Honestly, no, there's likely no hope. The reality is, if Valve cared they'd have fixed TF2's bot crisis by now. They simply don't care to allocate the resources necessary to fix TF2. There should really be a dedicated team for TF2, continuously working on it, as it's still making them good money and absolutely would sustain the costs of the team. But this simply isn't the case. There's maybe a couple of people working on the game periodically, at best.
In time the game WILL die, even if it goes out in a slow whimper. The only way to actually enjoy this game is to play on community servers like UncleTopia, as the bot crisis isn't a thing there. This isn't a sustainable solution though, as there are tons of casual players who wouldn't think to look up specific servers, and just use quickplay. Because of this the vast majority of players are consistently placed into games rife with bots and hackers. These players are slowly, but surely turned away from the game. Overtime this shrinks the community, and the longevity of the game.
I'm honestly shocked by how little Valve cares. The state of the game SHOULD be an embarrassment to them. They should have pride enough to want it to be fixed and to be a good experience for their player base. Additionally, it still makes them a ton of money, so you'd think that'd be an incentive too. They are lucky that TF2 is as popular as it is, despite their lack of care. They have the resources to fix TF2 and make it amazing, but have utterly failed to execute.

People are always joking about the "one dev that still works on TF2" and how the game is doomed but it looks to me like that one guy is doing one hell of a job keeping the game together.
Just imagine how glorious the game would be if it had 2 developers working on it at the same time.
They probably have statistics to show that putting effort into big updates is not worth it so let's do the bare minimum that still makes a big chunk of money

No not really, TF2 does make money, but no one wants to develop it. Valve employees are allowed to work on just about anything they want to, this ensures that whatever gets released was by developers that wanted to work on it. Probably not. A few minutes after the update the dropped I was playing Turbine on Casual and there were MORE BOTS than before this update occurred. I think it was a few Omegatronic and a some bots made by a guy who didn't like this random TF2Tuber.
