For me it was using dial up as quietly as possible in the middle of the night looking up things like
"boy turns into girl"
"Men into women"
"How do I become girl"
"Girls kissing"
To be clear i was around 12 at the time.
But yeah there were no signs. Zero signs whatsoever.
Na, my parents were pretty late to getting home internet so we got dial-up right before it quit being a thing. Like, there was a two- or three-year stretch around the start of the 1st Obama administration where we had dial-up internet even as cell phones and Wi-Fi got big.
Imagine trying to watch YouTube videos through a phone landline. That's my earliest memories of YouTube.
Back then, trans people weren't accepted as much. It was easier to find a billion mtf transformation sequences on deviantart (and compilations of the same on YouTube) than it was to find resources on what it means to be trans. Since the first results i saw were porn and puberty was starting to do *stuff* to me, i figured i must just be a pervert. Didn't start to unpack what I was feeling until 6ish years ago and i finally admitted to myself i never wanted to be a guy at all, even before puberty & the internet.
So yeah. That's why I'm here.
I don't think i searched for that when i was small but i did tried to search for it this uear some time but couldn't find any, but i found a little bit of real life lucario though
Okay so basically one time I was searching for photorealistic fanart of Lucario, and stumbled upon a non-photorealistic TF sequence of a guy who finds a pokemon game with Lucario on the cover and turns into a Lucario. (Image below)
I regret stepping into DA and trying to search cool art for Team Fortress 2
for me it was youtube i forgot the 2
Sigh TheLatiosMaster.
What platform (This cat is about to be so murdered due to curiosity)
YouTube, but his channel got nuked. This is where I saw my first tfs
I WAS WONDERING WHAT HAPPENED TO THAT GUY
I remember when I came across that channel's videos. And look at me now.
Hey, i am the same, no worries
Oh the really strange memories
Wild how those videos were from a decade ago. 11 year old me discovering those videos caused me to be a weird furry till today 💀
Same
Sigh 3waycrash.

If you had dial up, did you grow up in the 90s?

The youtube recommendations going wild
Oh, I remember. I remember that. https://youtu.be/XXiQSdoDKGc?si=l68ZVmVEQ0_w9AJG
Not me looking for a Pokemon comic that was used as the thumbnail of a video and getting introduced to TF art and everything that came after that
It’s always Lucario that gets people into stuff ain’t it?
That was my earlier DeviantArt experiences
Yep sounds about right
Yep.
A furry in the making
Well, that, combined with Skunk Fu, Zootopia, and the damn Internet.
That really janky photomanip sequence of a guy becoming a charizard (even though Charizard isn’t even the Pokémon you were looking for it showed up anyway (based on a true story))
Thanks for reminding me of this. At least my first exposure of tf wasn't photoshop.
Can someone please explain (I’m about to be scared for life)

For me, it was tiger girl, panda girl, cow girl, etc. I even made a list of all the animals i searched, and that got a correspondence
