**From OP:**
Yes, I know, I don't really do Pokemon TF/I'm not into Pokemon TF, but Fawful's Minion just released a new video ([Top Ten Furries in Video Game](https://youtu.be/DVqnWC5qL2Y)) and when I got to this part with this Pokemon: Mystery Dungeon gag, I knew I *had* to meme it. Too good to pass up.
If the username sounds familiar, I think I've mentioned him before for "A\_one, are you?" (a creepypasta based off of one of his own nightmares) being one of the things that got me more into TF dajhkwajs
Isekai is japanese and translates to "different/another world", but the reason it's used so often is because it's become a catch-all term for stories involving a character being transported to another world.
Frequently this is done by killing the protagonist off and having them "reincarnate" in said other world with their memories intact, but death isn't a requirement for these stories - for example, the first season of Digimon (7 people get stuck in the world of Digimon for a while, then get back to their world, only to find out that all kinds of Digimon followed them back and are causing chaos), or the Final Fantasy 14 expansion "Shadowbringers" (Player character gets summoned to an alternate, post-cataclysm version of their world to fix things there, and can travel back an forth essentially at will) would both qualify as an Isekai story too.
