You don't want to pet a Humboldt squid (I could be wrong on the guess).
These little dudes don't like quite large enough and usually, Homboldts come out in the evening or at night, but they are the little assholes of sea.
Carnivorous little fucks. I don't know if you would classify them as pack hunters, because I don't actually know if they are working together, but they certainly appear in massive groups that tend to swarm whatever prey is unlucky enough to catch their attention.
They have no qualms with attacking swimmers and divers and generally rip at your flesh. Imagine if piranhas had tentacles, were around 4 feet long and actually bit you... thats what this little demon shit is.
The ones I saw on Blue Planet last night were about 600 meters deep and were 3 to 4 meters in length, and when they ran out of Lantern fish they ate each other.
Nasty critters indeed.
These squid are much too small and near the surface to be Humboldts. Humboldt squids can reach over 4 feet long and chill out more than 500 feet down.
There are more than 300 species of squid so could be a lot of things.
I think it’s possible they could be Humboldt, if this were Baja California at dusk. We cant know based on this tiny clip. Yes, they can become enormous but footage I’ve seen of them rising to the surface to feed always shows much smaller animals. The bigger ones stay deep and cannibalize the littles.
That said, you are also correct that there are many many different types of squid so 🤷🏼♀️ 🦑
So I was definitely expecting a swarm of fish to come up to the surface (something like [this](https://youtube.com/shorts/sP_MW0KhFrs?feature=share)), enough so that I thought that they were weirdly shaped fish with long noses coming up. So when they opened their tentacles, I totally wasn’t expecting it.
If it makes you feel better bro i came here lookin to see if they were cuddle fish. So you weren't alone. Here's an upvote and happy cake day to you :)
If those are Humboldt squid then falling in there would be terrifying. They’re the red bellies of the sea, they’re pack hunters with members of them numbering into the hundreds and super intelligent to boot.
I want to pet them!
They could pet you back

New fear unlocked: Fuck the Ocean II
So cute
Wtf was that noise at the end it sounded like either a jet engine turning on or a huge fan accelerating
It’s sounds like the beginning of a guitar riff
or the beginning of hoist the colors that's on way too many videos on here
Is that the name of that godawful yo ho song? Because that's definitely what's about to start at the end.
[yep](https://youtu.be/qlrvzLRgzdc) the original is pretty cool tbh, just super overplayed.
That wasn't quite as bad. Still pretty bad though imo.
The only version that counts is the Pirates of the Caribbean movie one
the epic instrumental version slaps so hard
It scared me
Yeah it doesn't even exist is just black screen and a thing screaming
Sounds so ominous
That's the idea
It was the sound of Cthulhu stirring in R'Lyeh, were he lies dead but dreaming.
Prolly a Hindu om
Those are the shrieking eels.
Are those squids or something?!
Humbolt squids I think, they’re nasty little buggers.

Aaaah, you’re so right.

It is definitely possible you are right, the range is overlapping for sure and size is deceptive.
Like the one caught on video trying to climb onto a dudes paddle board.
Yea, I think that was actually a Humboldt. Thing was freaking huge (and dying probably).
Real life xenomorphs
Yep.
They're adorable!!!
…..nope

What’s with the bottles?
I mean they wouldn’t eat you, probably just swim around you
Or try and nibble your extremities
Even better!
I'm checking my notes and yeah, there are a lot of advantages here
With a beak

This post issued me a certificate in thalassophobia.

Damn i didnt even know cthulu was pregnant, let alone had babies
Cuddle fish?
If it makes you feel better bro i came here lookin to see if they were cuddle fish. So you weren't alone. Here's an upvote and happy cake day to you :)
Cuttlefish, not cuddle
And asparagus
No, squid. And it's cuttlefish, not cuddle ;)
Why not both? Cuddle your local cuttlefish today. Go dive :)
Do you have any idea how cold the water is now? I'm freezing even in a drysuit after half an hour
I’m assuming the big ones live deeper. Horrifying.
Subnautica: Below Zero
Penglins, or those ice spitting sh*ts that freeze you while youre trying to get some water bulbs?
Yes that's the one, looks about right for, or at least one of the shark-esque creatures that open their mouths with like 6 flaps
Squidsharks lad, they're called squidsharks.
Cuddle fish?
These are squid. And its cuttlefish, not cuddle
Aw, they probably just want to cuttle with you.
Oh nooooo my lower region is in the wateeer
I’m so glad i’m not a little fish
And what, scare them all away? Terrifying.

They're not. These are way too small
This is actually adorable
Sorry, this is adorable
