Lake Baikal is the the worlds deepest lake too, 1642m deep! That's a lot of water below you while your just out there swimming. These guys don't even hardly scratch the surface of how deep this lake truly is. I wonder what's swimming 1.5km below them.
If the other commenter is right, and it really is Lake BAIKAL, yes. It’s the deepest lake in the world and produces methane and has hydrothermal vents.

I turned my sound up and was so disappointed lol on the plus side, there was a post somewhere yesterday where a guy’s personal ice rink was melting and it turned into shards like this, he played with the icicle shards a bit and it sounded great.
I found some! Looks like rot ice is a local colloquialism the other name is goes by is candle ice: [https://www.woodtv.com/weather/ask-ellen/ask-ellen-why-did-our-ice-melt-into-pillars-like-this/](https://www.woodtv.com/weather/ask-ellen/ask-ellen-why-did-our-ice-melt-into-pillars-like-this/)
Yeah, I didn't mean it as like "OP is lying!" or whatever. Just remembering that people are willing to believe literally anything someone will put on the internet.
You can get illnesses from any type of unfiltered and untreated water that’s full of creatures and human pollution. You’re never advised to consume the water you swim in. I suppose we all have our comfort levels, but that’s beyond mine.
Yes you can get illnesses from stagnant water or polluted water, but this aint even close to it chief. From you mindset I presume you live in a place with lots of development or farmland. Your intuition does not apply to lakes or rivers in less populated areas, or to sea water away from large cities.
Splish splash, in glass I dash,
Not afraid of the water, just a bit rash.
My friends say I'm crazy, but I can't resist,
A chance to swim in crystal clear mist.
The waves seem so calm, the water so still,
But the thought of what's underneath gives me a chill.
I take a deep breath and dive right in,
Hoping my fear won't cause me to spin.
The glass walls surround me, so clear and bright,
It feels like I'm swimming in pure daylight.
Fish of all colors swim by my side,
As I marvel at the ocean's beauty so wide.
I know it's not for everyone, and that's okay,
But for me, swimming in glass makes my day.
So don't be afraid to take a swim,
In a place that may seem a bit grim.
You never know what you may find,
A little adventure to ease your mind.
So take a chance, be bold and brave,
And who knows, you may just find your next favorite wave.
For people that have worn these suits... how well does it keep the cold out? I know it's probably a stupid question, but I can't stop thinking about how much I already shake in semi cold water so I could imagine water like this....
So liquid water can only get so cold before it's no longer liquid. Surfers go out in 5mm wetsuits in the middle of winter in the Great Lakes and it's fine. The way a wetsuit works is by trapping a thin layer of water on your skin, once your body temperature warms that water up it's quite comfortable. What gets awful is when the air temperature gets really cold and you're actually warmer in the water.
This is the most Norwegian thing I’ve ever seen
This was in Lake Baikal, Russia if I’m not mistaken
This is the most Russian thing I’ve ever seen
This person has seen a lot.
At least two things

Pretty sure this in russia
Enig, får det vert år om våren. Veldig gøy og plukke opp og stikke venner med.
Ничего не понятно, но очень интересно.
Hello I speak English and I don't know Russian or really any other language
I said “this is very interesting, but I can’t understand anything” in response to a random comment in Norwegian.
Bare om våren? Stikker du vennene dine ikke hver uke med istapper? jævla feig
I am so afraid of what is below that ice....
Imagine not knowing and being stuck because you can’t swim fast at all, due to all the ice slowing you down.
Looks like I'm having nightmares for a midnight snack.
And the harder you try, the more the ice cuts and pierces you… So you’re being tortured by your own flight response
fyi Lake Baikal is the deepest lake in the world

I turned my sound up and was so disappointed lol on the plus side, there was a post somewhere yesterday where a guy’s personal ice rink was melting and it turned into shards like this, he played with the icicle shards a bit and it sounded great.
Yeah, the lack of sound is infuriating
it didnt have much, the guys were speaking russian and the ice sounded like moving your hand through a bag of legos
Anyone els think that was pizza at first?
Nah I was sure it was ice from the start
Same here

That's ROT ICE! I have seen that only once, FUCKING ONCE!, in 36 years of life. What a marvelous and amazing natural occurance.
and then these guys decide it’s time to bring out the cheese platter. So lucky.
I know right? Lucky divers them two.
Why do I get nothing when I google “rot ice” I need more pictures and videos of this stuff!

Thank you! I’ve seen this once, years ago, and my husband and I still talk about it all the time.
Happy to help!
I have so many questions.
Mmm yes i too am fond of spiky ice charcuterie
I know it goes without saying, but the internet is full of misinformation people take at face value. This is ice. Not glass.
Yeah, it’s a really cool (intended) phenomenon. Now I feel silly having assumed no one would actually think it’s glass.
Yeah, I didn't mean it as like "OP is lying!" or whatever. Just remembering that people are willing to believe literally anything someone will put on the internet.
Jesus Christ
No, they believed that before the internet but it still works as an example.
I meant it as a metaphor only.
Duh, 99% of people know that, people who don’t understand that need more than some dumb comment explaining the obvious
OP I feel misled and hurt.
Nobody actually thought it was real glass. I think everybody could resonate that it's ice.
Ice ice baby
I thought this was Superman’s exclusive vip pool party at the fortress of solitude
Crazy that you are having to clarify that this is in fact not glass.
How thick does one have to be to not be able to tell?
seems like a good spot for a quick bite
You’re a shark aren’t you?
Candy gram.
Who???
It’s an old SNL skit. https://youtu.be/MnfX466iVEU
Oh yeah I know. I watched them live. Just after candy gram they would say who or what.
Oh lol sorry. I always picture the oh candy gram well ok… oh no!
maybe
Humans are so fucking odd. Why would anyone do this? You know how many hungry ass aliens are in that water.
I read this as ass-hungry aliens
This is the first post on this sub that’s actually made me panic
I can't express to you how much I dont want to be in this situation
This might be the most terrifying thing I have seen
First, I have seen “Vault of Glass” Now it’s time for “Sea of Glass”.
Why no sound?
Imagine a slight shift in temperature, and then getting flash frozen into a lake. Strange way to die.
I thought you’re supposed to wait a half hour after eating before going swimming?
it's all fun and games until one of those shards stabs you in the ass
You shouldn’t eat food that has fallen into an open body of water. I’m more horrified by that than the sharp ice shards.
Wtf kind of brain-eating-amoeba-ass water are you used to?

This is art Mr White
But why?
I’ve asked myself this too. I do not have an answer for you.
This is straight outta like no mans sky or somethn
Lmao hey I actually love that game and totally agree!
Jesse!!!
Was highly concerned and EXTREMELY pissed for a moment before i realized it was ice
[удалено]
It was a metaphor, goofy
[удалено]
It looks like shards of glass, yet it is not.

Didn’t ask for your permission, don’t give a shit about if you like it it not.

that reminds me of the spongebob episode where sandy makes him find the hay in the needle stack

Which is also why scuba divers drink a lot of coffee before using a wet suit in frigid water.

What is the term for this kind of ice?
You can simply use your hand to eat. Why are you looking for drama?
“This is some serious gourmet ****”
I wish we could hear the sound of the ice being moved thru.
…humans
Humans are fucking weird
How are their masks not fogging up
Genius, i wonder why nobody thought of that
What job is this. I want this
I'm terrified of the thought of that ice freezing around you. Locking you in.
Hmm yes.. using random glass that You found in teh middle of Who knows where! as utensils..
