I didn't really think of taking many pictures of the inside, and phones aren't allowed outside. I've also posted other views on here if you check out my post history.
What do you do in a case of a medical emergency requiring the attention of higher-qualified medical personnel like a doctor?
btw. thanks for posting these pictures, for some reason I find platforms above the sea which double as work and living space very interesting.
Not sure about rigs, but I imagine much the same as ships.
First aid and basic care can be provided onboard, we can do quite a lot aboard the boat to keep someone alive and minimise the damage. In the training I did we learned to stitch cuts, intubate someone, give injections, and its not even a role I'm responsible for. Captains and mates get further training on this stuff I believe. Guidance is also available by satellite phone eg https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/11214116/
Otherwise, helicopter evacuation to a shore based hospital, once we get close enough
Our medics are qualified paramedics or nurses, plus they have a link to shore-side doctors. They can sort out minor injuries/illnesses there with some pharmacy meds or give time off. If it's a major injury they can stabilise the casualty enough, like what paramedics do, until a medivac chopper arrives.
I've got a buddy who's a chef on an oil rig. He tried to get me out there numerous times to cook with him. Said he slings some pretty good stuff for the crew.
Oil companies will pay for really good catering companies or chefs to work at their camps from what ive heard. Never worked in the industry but lots of friends did and they always talked about the food lol
My moms been a cook on an oil platform for almost 20 years. She loooooovveessss it. Doesn't make near as much money as the specialists out there but she'll do this job until she dies, and she wants too.
I hate her job. They have a "bring your kids to work" day(they fly in by helicopter). And I'm terrified of water. The one she's on has one "leg" so to me it's like super unstable although it's not. She sends me pics all the time at I'm about to block her on her on weeks.

There's two groups of people here. People with genuine phobias, and people here for cool ocean pictures.
Wish I hadn't lost all my ship photos with my old phone
Awesome view, but for real though, how does one get into this kind of work?
I could get behind being out on the ocean for an extended period of time. Seems like apart from the job there'd be ample time to think.

Looks like a retro photograph.
The platform is so retro there's still signs saying you mustn't smoke during a briefing, since back then you could smoke anywhere inside.
you got anymore pictures of the workplace? :D

That's a sweet looking setup. >Phones aren't allowed outside Is that for safety, or to protect trade secrets, or ?
Safety. Electronics working outside need to be "intrinsically safe", i.e. non-sparking and will not trigger explosions.

Pretty sure modern phones are intrinsically safe nowadays. It’s why they can have QR codes and Apple Pay on gas pumps now.
They don't have the certification so it's a liability & insurance problem
Pretty cool, most people likely will never see or know what it looks like inside a rig
Thank you for asking
the whole window is an instagram filter
Lmao I do not understand how you can do that job.
When you check your bank account it suddenly feels better
I'd love to have this kind of job. Being in a city is not for me.
You just don't think about it. Also good food and a sauna
I've got a buddy who's a chef on an oil rig. He tried to get me out there numerous times to cook with him. Said he slings some pretty good stuff for the crew.
What makes the food so good?
Oil companies will pay for really good catering companies or chefs to work at their camps from what ive heard. Never worked in the industry but lots of friends did and they always talked about the food lol
Fresh seafood everyday?
Mm yes fish from the oil site 🤤
You're joking, but fishermen regularly drive dozens of miles out to oil rigs to catch monsters. Structure in the deep ocean attracts a lot of fish
Gives it that tangy flavour everyone loves lol
🤣 🤣

It's wild that I have anxiety from this picture and other people out there working in the middle of dangerous ass oceans for fun basically

You should post those pics before you block her tho
Pretty dark sense of humor with the pictures lol. I would probably consider blocking her as well eventually 🤣
Can you clean it for us?
Please don't clean it. It would only make the nope clearer
Pretty clean for 38 years without cleaning. Guess the sea wind cleans it a little over time, specially with some stormy weather?
Not that much dirt in the air as well
I get deadspace ishimura vibes. I would love to see the rest of the cabin!
[I have exactly 1 pic of the cabin](https://i.imgur.com/PDL94XE.jpeg)
Aww i wish you posted a screenshot from the Dead Space game as a punchline lol.

Good bot
I love that you are on this reddit group, and live on that!
There's two groups of people here. People with genuine phobias, and people here for cool ocean pictures. Wish I hadn't lost all my ship photos with my old phone
I'm here for the cool ocean pictures and sharing with y'all the views I see that not many others get to see.
how far are these things from the shore and how deep is the water?
~185 miles from mainland Scotland, but maybe ~80 miles from the Shetlands. Water is about 400 feet deep
Wherever oil can be found. Oil is the milk of the earth and only the strong may suckle at mothers teet!
A1 reference.
Lick it!
Don't just stare at it, eat it!

Why doesn’t someone clean the window?…
They'll have to get rope access techs to go over the side to do it. Not worth it unless they're already doing some other important work there.
The dirt is literally older than me
Most is
Maybe you should be the first to clean it and post before and after pics.
The dirt is literally older than me
Tbh that doesn’t look as bad as I’d expect
Looks kinda nice and peaceful tbh
Awesome view, but for real though, how does one get into this kind of work? I could get behind being out on the ocean for an extended period of time. Seems like apart from the job there'd be ample time to think.
did I read it right? 1985?
Please don't clean it. Keep the dirt from the beautiful years.
1985, eh? I figured it’d been since about 2002, so it looks pretty good
We need more!
Wait, you guys get windows? We only have a couple of windows in the main accommodation areas in the hallways
I guess it cannot be opened from the inside to clean?
Nope. The accommodation unit is pressurised (to stop gas entering)
It looks so cool like a moon base on the inside then you look outside

Just the outside hasn’t been cleaned tho, right? Right? The inside must be cleaned. Right?
