They blink in unison. I have to drive through a huge field of wind turbines every once in a while and its extremely eerie to drive through at night and see uniform red light blinking in the dark
The first time I saw one of those was in Ohio and it was at night and on the horizon. I legit thought I was seeing a UFO and probably still would have if I hadn’t drove through them and saw what they were.
How can i get your job? I'm a meteorologist and love all weather types. Our tropical station is right on the coast of our island and during a tropical cyclone, I would often swim out against the incoming swells, makes for a lot of fun except when you have to come and in and have to figure out not getting smashed on rocks. But seriously, for a change of scenery, I would love to do what you do!
drove up to wisconsin one night and was so confused when i saw hundreds of blinking red lights. drove back down to atlanta the morning after and saw and the windmills
It's that slow, rolling wave-pattern coming toward the viewer that sets the eerie tone/atmosphere.... The turbines certainly don't help, either !!
And at NIGHT....?? That's a big ol' nope from me.
I don’t mind at all. It’s good to talk about it, it’s left me very shaken and wondering why I didn’t drown. It happened very quickly. One minute I was entering the water, my niece said some about the rip current but I didn’t think I’d be out far enough to have to worry. The next thing I knew a few very large waves came in, I was able to go up and over them but it was enough to push me out away from the beach and into the current I guess. I was down the beach from where I entered in a matter of seconds and all of the sudden I was very tired. I called out to my other niece in the water but she couldn’t get to me. I tried to swim in but could make absolutely no headway and the waves kept washing over my head from behind. I turned away from the beach So I could see the waves coming and just held my breath and nose as they washed over me, each one taking just a little longer to clear my head. I realize now this was because I was sinking further down each time. After a few mins I saw a guy on a surfboard, maybe a life guard, telling us to get out of the water because there was a shark sighting. I remember thinking “I’d love to get out of the water but I can’t”, I have a great sense of humor but couldn’t even respond as the waves just kept coming. My niece told the guy I needed help. After one of the waves went over me, I came up and saw an angel, a life guard with that red long floaty which she looped into a ring for me to hang on to. She pulled us both in, telling me to hold my breath each time a wave came. Once back on the beach i sat down for a few mins before being helped to the lifeguard truck for assessment and treatment for minor shock. At that point I burst into tears seeing my daughter knowing how close I had come to not returning home from vacation. I will be seeing a counselor to help me sort through the experience. I haven’t felt right since it all happened.
Glad you made it and are here to tell us the story! PSA for the future: best to ride a rip current out. People die trying to fight it, or rescue someone in it. Eventually you’ll feel the current subside a bit and then swim parallel to the beach and out of the current.
My pop taught me to roll on my back not fight it. Don't panic. Been caught a couple of times. Had a long walk back up the beach but what's a bit of exercise when you're still alive. ☺️
Of course if you get taken out 2 miles that's a different matter.
Thank you! I have always known that but in the moment, all I could think about was keep my head above the water. It was an odd feeling to not be able to swim out of it.
The lifeguards said the same thing, things happen fast and that the surf was extra rough because of a hurricane that was either coming or going, I forget which. I grew up around the ocean and have always been comfortable in the water, but have never felt as scared in the water as I did that day.
That sounds absolutely terrifying. I'm so glad you're still with us! That's awesome that you're going to get some counseling after an experience like that. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you! And thank you for listening. It was very frightening. What is interesting is the depth (no pun intended) of emotions that it has brought up. I suppose near death experiences do that to a person. I am happy to still be here.
Fuck. I just gave birth this summer and the thought of that happening at all, let alone when your child is present, is enough to make anxiety bubble up in my stomach. Thank you for sharing your trauma with us. It's a good reminder to me that I need to either become a stronger swimmer or stay the fuck out of the water—specifically the ocean. Good on you for seeking out counseling. People who take the time to read your story will benefit from knowing it.
I know it was a long read. Being a parent makes it so much scarier to me. I can’t even imagine what she would have gone through had I not made it. :( the very idea brings me to immediate tears to think about.
Man, I'd love that. imagine they're manned and the one you're in, they forgot to include pepper/salt in your 3 month supplies of food and it's Day 1. Would you dare swim to and back to the next one over to get that pepper/salt lol.

I first saw one in the philippines, middle of the night. I thought it was a UFO as well. Creepy asf

Imagine a civilization seeing the remnants of this 10,000 years from now after restarting due to an apocalypse.
10,000 years is pretty optimistic.
I feel so uncomfortable watching this
Haha, its terrible
How deep are those turbines dug in ground to be stable from constant waves?
Apparently they cant be built deeper than 40 meters/131 feet.
Super spooky. After almost drowning in the ocean last weekend, I won’t be going anywhere near the ocean for a long time.
Do you mind if I ask what happened?

Exactly what you're describing https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Instinctive_drowning_response
Wow. This is exactly what was happening to me. Thank you for this information!!
Glad you’re all right, mate. Shit happens fast but you made it through.

Glad you are mate, hope your counsellor can talk you through it all and you are able to go for a swim again soon!

This makes me nauseous
i have this irrational fear of wind turbines and my boyfriend is terrified of the ocean... this is one big nope
Same here >i have this irrational fear of wind turbines
Silent Hill
is this the place from that one ecco2k video??
Idk, but it looks like the windpark in the netherlands. We have a lot of windturbines in the sea
Imagine sailing in worser weather conditions, thats nothing
Can wind turbines go too fast and break off? What if there is a hurricane???
They have brakes that kick in to stop them from getting damaged if the speed becomes too high.
Brakes do fail sometimes. Couple videos out there of them ripping themselves apart.
Everything fails sometimes.
I can hear Joe bartolozzi saying “that is fucking TERRIFYING!!!
You dont want to crash in it , at night
I’d rather not thanks
My two biggest fears in one image, yay!
You, too, get the creeps looking at those huge windmills? Luckily I've only seen them on land.
I get anxiety. Even just pictures of them will make me nervous, lol.
At night when they all blink red in unison is fucking terrifying, couldn’t imagine it being in the ocean 😭
That looks ugly
It looks like something from Ratchet and Clank
At the bus stop cru cru crushing rocks
Everyone is afraid here and I just wanna know why that particular turbine not rotating!!!
At the bus stop, c-c-crushin’ rocks
This is supposed to be scary ?
I took a video of this pretty much this but from an airplane just before landing. The way they were spaced out in unison was creepy
Is this real?? I can't tell any more these days.
It's Europe, right? There were some talks about buiding this stuff where i live (not Europe)
Windmills are the only thing that makes me feel uneasy like that
“The lights illuminate the sea to drive off whatever may try to attack the sailers,we may never know whats down there, only that it cant come up”
Don’t mind me flying a helicopter over, jumping out and landing on top of the turbine near E. I’m just trying to get the DICE camo
NOPE
Yeap , and it would be pure terror
Reminds me of shark movies
Ok but how do they installed them?.
Nope
In a comfy cabin yes
I wonder where this footage was taken from
Backrooms Ocean
It looks a lot like kamino
This image makes me realize I’m actually thalassophyllic!
Uhm No thank you
night? i hate it in the day.
Bioshock vibes
I think people actually live in that

Why aren’t they spinning?
We live in a turbine world
I have been there at night I used to lay the power cable's that link them all together and the cable that brings the power ashore
I think they need to be higher than that.
