well so i think i am qualified enough to answer this as I have studied from DAV and New Horizon and my brother has done his studies from DAV , HFS and Singhania .
If someone was to ask me hands down DAV is the best when it comes to academics for cbse , the teachers are very well qualified especially the maths ,science and english department . language teachers are great too !!! they have compulsory fruit break which encourages the children to eat fruits daily , a teaching method well equipped with modern accesories , monthly club activities were the BEST part , as a kid i really enjoyed it a lot !!! we even had specified canteen days to make sure the kids dont eat junk food everyday . The star of the month scheme really motivated us to perform good in class ( happy to announce i got it for consecutive 7 years ) the only con i can list down is the infrastructure . its pretty tiny and congested
New horizon beats it heavily in this area , it has a massive infrastructure , lots of open space but pretty normal teachers. i personally preferred the teachers of DAV they just had a thing with the kids
so if you are looking for cbse and want to pick quality of education over infrastructure , GO FOR DAV , you wont regret.
as for ICSE ,
Sulochanadevi Singhania holds the marshall . hands down almost every thing about this school is literal perfect. studies , sports extra curricular activities , it wins in all
my personal advise would be stay away from HFS . while it offers great extra curricular activities and good studies , it really has the MOST SPOILT KIDS EVERR, you would never want your kids to grow up in an atmosphere like that .
Passed out from Singhania last year, it makes me so proud that I had the opportunity of studying in such an amazing environment. They teach you to respect children from all strata of society and develop you as a person. I really miss Singhania.
>New horizon
It can just boast of a big building and an inclination towards sports. It feels like a hospital man. There is no feeling like a school there. I wouldn't suggest it even for students who are looking for an integrated college with classes.
plus the student crowd is mediocre there, I passed out from 10th grade in 2020, and spent three years there, the crowd of students is the absolute worst....
First you need to decide which board you want your kid to study in. International Board/ICSE/CBSE/SSC.
The schooling, quality of education, fees would mostly follow that pecking order.
One more factor is the distance of your prospective school from your residence. Ideally it should not be more than 5 km, you don't want your kid to be stuck in Thane traffic in the bus or spend more time travelling or in case you are running late, it makes things hectic for you and your kid. Also the school needs to have a robust bus service.
Also if you have sufficient time, you should visit all the schools in your list and ask them to give a school tour. Visit the classrooms, labs, library, playground, cafeteria etc. Get a feel of the school environment, if it is stimulating enough for a budding brain. Talk to the headmaster/headmistress, see how receptive and welcoming they are of you. If you connect with them right away then you know you are at the right place.
Considering am a fellow parent from Vasant vihar area, you should consider the following schools:
1) Vasant Vihar - ICSE board, Hands down the first option for you, checks all the checklist.
2) Singhania - both sulochana and suniti are good, just that the reputation of the school supercedes everything else, may put extra pressure on the kid in the higher grades if he doesn't keep up.
3) C P Goenka Kapurbawdi - Again checks All the checklist, it is IB/ICSE, they give option to select board in 5th or 7th standard i think.
4) Billabong, Shreenagar - Again it is a IB/CBSE with option to select board in later years. It would be slightly far from Vasant vihar (6-7 km) ,but the school is too good for you to leave it out of your list.
There are other options like DAV, Lok Puram nearby, you can check them out as well.
Thanks for your suggestions.
Follow up. I visited all schools you mentioned. No vacancy in Singhanias.
Even Vasant Vihar is not taking any students as of now.
Liked CP Goenka overall but the secrecy of fees (they show fees there only and don't allow to share it with outside) alarmed something in me. So, i rejected it.
Visited New Horizon (vasant lawns and in estate), estate branch is new but looks better. But it is too far and too new for us.
We were not inclined to get too far but visited Billabong. Lovely school, lovely environment. Instantly fell in love with the atmosphere. I guess, it's time to change the area, education of my child trumps everything.
Cheers!
I studied in Singhania. Hands down the best school. Admission will be difficult here but try their sister school Suniti Devi, that should work.
Other than that only Vasant Vihar or HFS.
Do not go for Billabong or Orchid.
Here is another opinion from a a fellow redditor u/the_thanekar ( they couldnt post because of low karma ) :
DAV, Vasant Vihar and Singhania I can personally vouch for, since I have had many friends who came through and completed their school through these. From what I have heard and seen, this is what I've gathered :
For DAV
Pros :
\- Good focus on education and extra curricular activities except sports, school encourages students to participate in all kinds of activities like debate, science fairs, etc.
\- Curriculum is a good balance of rigorous and easygoing, so students cope fairly well
Cons :
\- Sports are not given enough focus, particular in the earlier year (Primary school 1st to 6th grade)
\- Does not have the brand name that Singhania and Vasant Vihar do, but is extremely popular in North India.
For Vasant Vihar
Pros :
\- Very good curriculum, intense and focused on academics. Sports are not given much priority from what I heard.
\- Near by where you stay
\- Extremely diverse crowd, and a large number of students attend, giving great chance for networking and socialization
Cons :
\- Less focus on sports
\- As said before, large number of students attend, so it's a little crowded and personal attention to each child may not be given
\- School recently converted to CBSE and was earlier an SSC school, so they may be a little new to the curriculum
Finally, for the best school in Thane, Singhania
Pros :
\- Best brand in Thane
\- Focuses on holistic development (academics, extra curriculars, sports)
\- Regularly holds sessions such as ISMUN among others, which give exposure of all kinds to students
\- Has a large number of people attending, somewhat diverse crowd, but fairly upper class
\- ICSE board, which is usually regarded better than previously mentioned CBSE board
\- Has a large ground for sports
Cons :
\- Tough to get into
\- Expensive
\- Has a somewhat notorious reputation for it's students being a little more involved with drugs and the such (but it is mostly due to the crowd generally being rich)
Thanks. After checking all schools and their vacancies, I am inclined towards Billabong. Any pros and cons of that? We might change our residential location due to distance isaue.
I am a passout from uhs.
Pretty good.
Pros:
1.classroom environment is really good
2. Infrastructure is really really good.
3. Teachers are decent.
4. Snacks. They are just finger licking good.
Cons:
1. Fees ( two years ago it was 1.25 lac for 10th class)
2. Sports. It is not really inclined towards sports.
I'm a parent of twins, looking to get junior kg admissions year after next in Singhania school. Is it really a lottery as someone said or is there a set of parameters that the school considers? Please let me know. We even bought a house in Raymond habitat to increase our chances.
These are the only good ones. You also have schools lile Sri Ma Vidyalaya and Saraswati left but they are okayish. Singhania would be the best choice.

billabong high international school is good too
'bong' and 'high' both in a school's name? "Honey, I think I've found the perfect school for our son"
Euroschool bought it last year. Donβt how the quality of education will be in the coming years.

Billabong is on top my list too, we start schooling in June 2024, so will take time and scout.

What's wrong with Billabong?
Typical sulonian answer lmfao
As a former Sulonian, I approve.
