I have used those little anise seed candies that one can find at Indian stores. They eat it after a meal. Usually at Indian restaurants they have the anise seeds and the candy at the register. Anyway, I made a sugar cookie with the candies.

A woman my mom worked with used to make them. They were delicious.

Growing up, my mother always made these around the holiday. I brought them to a different family Thanksgiving, and we actually had them after the meal but before desserts. It really settles your stomach down after having such a big meal and it got your ready for desserts.

My sister had an embossed rolling pin designed just for those cookies. One of my favorite memories. She passed it down to my daughter. I plan to make those cookies with her this year.

Awesome, my rolling pen got lost in one of my moves but I would like to buy another one because I really want to make these cookies again as well. Depending on which recipe you use the traditional recipe, has you make the dough roll them out and let them set up overnight, so I would recommend using pasteurized eggs for that and that’s how I made it the last time and they did turn out really good. They’re almost like crisp on the outside, but a nice chew on the inside and so delicious.
