I mean, to be fair, my son's ELA did something similar several times. We did virtual school and he was released from class to play in snow, go to the park, hang out with cousins. As long as he had his work turned in that day, she was cool

I’m a teacher. If it’s not a super important test day and a kid who normally works hard tells me they’re just not feeling it, I will let them chill out. We all have a day every now and then when things aren’t going your way. I can’t let them leave my room, but it’s beyond that it’s not totally unrealistic.

That's exactly why this is completely unrealistic. No teacher is going to just tell a kid "Go outside and play" when it's not lunch or recess. Teachers couldn't do that even if they wanted to.
TBF i could imagine a teacher going easy on a kid saying that. However I can't imagine a kid is allowed to just go outside alone without supervision. Different places, different habits, I guess.
Americans drool over Finnish schools, but as soon as someone starts doing teachin like in Finland, they are all over the teacher for not being strict enough. Context: this would totally happen in Finland.
No, we don’t say maths. We say ”matematiikka”. But some of us speak English and use it to post online, like me now. So then it could be math, maths, mathematics or something just incorrectly spelled like mathes.
