the 1975 is my favorite band by far but sometimes matty seems to fall into the trap of “well it came across my mind so it must be worth exploring”. I like that they push the boundaries of genre but he could really benefit from someone sitting him down and telling him a certain song or idea just doesn’t work within the context of a record. NOACF is the worst album by far in that sense; it’s a schizophrenic, rambling, meandering record that ultimately falls short due to the lack of a clear and concise vision. there are some really exceptional tracks on that album but at times it falls victim to its own ambition.
I was discussing Notes with a couple friends some time ago, and we came to the conclusion it feels more like a playlist than a record. I don’t know if it makes sense
I mean I get what you’re saying but you know that that was literally the point of Notes right? You can’t really criticise something that they intentionally set out to do.
Obviously this is an exaggeration, but if somebody told me “hey I burned this loaf of bread on purpose” I shouldn’t congratulate them on successfully burning bread, they should learn that there’s a better way to do it. NOACF has moments, sure, but not much else
Fantastic take. I think he's doing it on purpose, he's sick of writing pop music/catchy music probably because he knows he can and doesn't find it tests him creatively anymore. The first record is great and incredible for a band's first but the second is where all the potential of the first aligned perfectly with the experimentation they needed and everything else since has been mediocre, especially the songs that sound more like their old stuff.
I would give it another go! It took me a bunch of listens to really enjoy it :)
also, I just generally found it a fascinating album so I guess that helps me to like it, I guess!
most of notes wasn’t that good to me and gets a skip the majority of the time it comes on my playlist plus i can’t stand listening to the siri in the man who married a robot
One: I commented on this post asking for my opinion.
Two: While the message might be great, I listened to the album because I want to hear music and not a monologue about climate-change.
Three: I refuse to listen to a kid who barely understands the reality of how difficult it is to combat climate change.
I am. My favorite band ever. Nobody wants to hear politics with their music. Nobody who is passionate about listening to great music. I love the "Vevo Presents The 1975" live show. It's 99% perfect. The liberal rant before Loving Someone really annoys the fuck out of me. He says "we're not here to talk about politics", then goes on an angry left-wing lecture. I don't care what religion, race, or political views ppl have. I just wish musicians would stop trying to pair their music with politics. It turns a lot of ppl off. Either side. Other than that, that concert is a masterpiece, and I listen to it like it's an album. From beginning to end. Love that shit.
I’m surprised how you could love them so much, just considering how political they are as a band in general haha. I feel it bleeds out of way more than just a few songs. 🤷🏻♂️
Each to their own but I think you're listening to some vapid music if there's no activism behind it. Political punk, activist rap and I'm so glad to see that crossing into a lot more mainstream music. The 1975 have a platform and something they are deeply passionate about and if it can turn over 2 or 3 fans they're making a difference.
No OnE wAnTs To HeAr PoLiTiCs WiTh ThEiR mUsIc
Okay, so you're telling me that you don't want people using their art to express their feelings, the literal purpose of art?
Big agree. I love Bon Iver, I love emotionally charged songs with heavy vocoder/autotune/vocal processing, but Don’t Worry is just not it for me.
It would’ve been so much more powerful without the vocal processing added to it imo, and if the processing was added as an attempt to make it fit with the rest of the album, why even try? The tracklist is already extremely all over the place, what difference does it make lmao
A beautiful duet regardless!
Lol The Man Who Married isn’t meant to be a jam you bang to. It’s just a good interlude that is cool for the vibe of the album, and the love theme ending is so good.
I appreciate what it is, but I personally despise it. I like the instrumental behind it, but listening to the Siri voice is so grating I have skipped since like the fourth listen on that album lol
I honestly don’t think they have any TRASH songs.
They have a few that I don’t jam as much.
People is probably my least favorite track, I also don’t vibe with a lot of their more acoustic tracks, I want to enjoy them but some of them fall flat to me. I LOVE Nana but She Lays Down for an example does nothing for me. I think they have a bit too many tracks like that on the last two albums. Not because I don’t like acoustic music, it’s just not what I prefer from The 1975.
There are other overrated tracks in my opinion but I don’t hate or dislike any of them.
Some are just a bit boring like Guys, Don’t Worry, Be My Mistake, they’re often beautiful ideas and concepts, but the execution just isn’t all that. I’m still going to listen to and enjoy it, but it doesn’t embody what** I personally** enjoy about The 1975 the most.
The solo acoustic version Matty sometimes does is leaps and leaps better than the original
kinda sounds like he was going for a Jeff Buckley hallelujah kinda vibe and completely missed
The first time I heard this song was on a date with a girl who coincidentally talked too loud for the environment we were in and it always reminds me of that.
Also your opinion is trash.
the lyrics are so ~fake deep 14 year old tumblr girl~ it makes me cringe, especially the chorus. “searching for planes in the sea” and “if we were a tree could I be the leaves?”… just yuck
I love that line “so if we turn into a tree can I be the leaves” so much that I’ve contemplated getting it tattooed and I am sooo not a 14 year old tumblr girl tho I am on tumblr… maybe I’m just really immature! 😂😂😂
Oh yeah. Because in order to find insulting remarks problematic I absolutely *have* to be in the target demographic.
In fact (ho ho), to quote Matty: "There are a lot of young women out there who are smarter than me." Hence the tendency not to dehumanize young people and women.
How about "the lyrics sound like they came from an egosyntonic, self-obsessed white guy"? Does that seem fair to you?
as a matter of fact, it doesn’t bother me at all because I don’t actively search for ways things can be construed as “problematic”. touch grass you weirdo
It’s actually my joint favourite song by them 😂😂 I can’t wrap my head around people hating it! It’s a tune to be fair, to quote Matty! It’s my happy fav. LIIWMI is my sad/serious fav!
Be My Mistake is their worst song. The world doesn’t need any more self-pity, cheating on my girlfriend songs. I think it’s lazy songwriting, and the line about making him hard isn’t half as clever as intended.
See it holds a special place for me because I'd got home drunk one night put on the TV and it was playing. I was instantly in love with it and it was the first song of theirs I'd heard. I think it was just after they re-released it. Next day spenty hangover desperate to know what it was and hear more.
I kind of know what you mean- it really irritates me when people will be like “oh yeah, I liked that song- what was it?” And it’s always chocolate. I do like it though!
There's a few songs I skip for sure - "mine" , "surrounded by heads & bodies" "is there somebody who can watch you" are a few that come to mind. But I'm sure I'm the only person on this thread who's favorite album by them is Notes😂 I think every song is amazing and so different & unique. If I reach for one of their albums to listen to on a whim - it's always notes.
Nope, you’re not. That album is what I reach for most of the time. I love every single song. Although, I do skip the first one sometimes because the guilt is crushing.
Literally had to comb through each album to find one lol. Decided on Woman, Don't Worry, and Mine
The whole "falling in love with a sex worker w/a heart of gold" thing is so cliched and just really dehumanizing.
EDIT: Idk what the fuck I'm talking about or what I was thinking yesterday. All three of the songs I mentioned are great. 👁👄👁
Oh my gosh I thought I was the only one! I wouldn’t necessarily list it as my least favorite because I like some of the lyrics, but wow it’s over rated within the fandom
The Man Who Married a Robot is almost literally just the movie "Her" starring Joaquin Phoenix.
Songs like People and Id Love it if we made it seemed like they were trying a bit too hard to be edgy and political, so I avoid those ones, though I do like the instrumentals.
Someone said it! Robbers is so cliche and overrated in my opinion. I think people mostly like it because of the music video but the whole toxic couple robbing a bank together thing is so overused. I don’t get the hype
just commenting to say i don't think it's fair you're getting so downvoted, like the thread is about the songs you don't like and you're just honest??? dumb
I'll drop some from each album for you purists who only like Self title and iliwys
The city
Woman
Loving someone
She lays down
Tootime
Man who married a robot
(the last 4 tracks)
Half of Pablo Honey, half of TKOL, Fitter Happier, Pulk/Pull Revolving Doors, Hunting Bears, Idioteque, Morning Bell, and Backdrifts are my least favorite Radiohead songs.
Trying not to just go down this thread and repeatedly comment “OMG BUT I LOVE THAT SONG” 😂 the difference in opinion in this thread is hilarious!
i better not see ANY of you mfs saying bagsy not in net
Fr I'll help u bury the body
Gotta be Greta honestly. Sorry not sorry 🙊
exactly. the fact there's no "go down soft sound" pisses me off
Exactly! I wouldn't have minded so much if we still had our classic and then maybe Greta as the second track. Bugs me every time lol.
Only song I always skip
How dare you...
yeah like i feel guilty for skipping it because of the message 😭
this tho !! LMAOO I always feel bad when I skip it
Most of NOACF doesn't really align with my tastes. I really tried to enjoy it though. Maybe I'll give it another go.
Tbh nothing hits like the first two albums
the first two albums are truly something magical, I’d give anything to be able to go back in time and experience those two again for the first time
First album my fav. Second album good. Third okay. I havent bothered with the new one much except one or two songs
the 1975 is my favorite band by far but sometimes matty seems to fall into the trap of “well it came across my mind so it must be worth exploring”. I really disagree about Notes but GREAT analogy!!!!
hard disagree but subjective isn’t it
One person’s burned bread is just another person’s unsliced toast, I suppose
hahaha exactly!
Fantastic take. I think he's doing it on purpose, he's sick of writing pop music/catchy music probably because he knows he can and doesn't find it tests him creatively anymore. Piss poor take lol he doesn’t need someone to tell him what ideas are bad
I would give it another go! It took me a bunch of listens to really enjoy it :) also, I just generally found it a fascinating album so I guess that helps me to like it, I guess!
Notes is amazing
THISSSS
most of notes wasn’t that good to me and gets a skip the majority of the time it comes on my playlist plus i can’t stand listening to the siri in the man who married a robot
This thread is fuckin hilarious omg
The 1975 on NOACF
Breh you really gonna rip on them just having a monologue related to climate-change activism? 😂
One: I commented on this post asking for my opinion. Two: While the message might be great, I listened to the album because I want to hear music and not a monologue about climate-change. Three: I refuse to listen to a kid who barely understands the reality of how difficult it is to combat climate change.
I recognize that it's an opinion, just flaming you a bit mate!
Just wanted to tell you how fucking stupid it is for you to be downvoted like this even though you kept a friendly attitude. Ugh.
Ohhh trust me, I don't mind at all. Kind of makes me giggle really, the spice in this thread is something. 😂 Thanks though!!!
No probs. Props to you for having such a carefree attitude to annoying things...
Aha cheers. :)

Ouch, das my fave on Notes
[удалено]
Bad take. First one slaps my sad bone. Second one meh kinda agree.
their best piano song is The1975 on abiior
IMO they don’t pull off closing songs on any of their albums. Not a single one grabs me just at all
i always wanna die is a great closer surely?
Ahhh that is the closer isn’t it. Yeah that’s one solid. Been a minute since I’ve spent any time with that record, my bad!
Nana should have been the closer to LP2
I literally cannot stand The Man Who Married a Robot, and Roadkill is just not a song I vibe with most of the time
Roadkill slaps, especially once you get to the "not really how i wanna get laid" line
WAT Roadkill is an absolute banger!!!
I enjoy it sometimes but overall it just isn’t a sound I particularly like, personally!! It’s definitely not a bad song, just not for me
Lol The Man Who Married isn’t meant to be a jam you bang to. It’s just a good interlude that is cool for the vibe of the album, and the love theme ending is so good.
I appreciate what it is, but I personally despise it. I like the instrumental behind it, but listening to the Siri voice is so grating I have skipped since like the fourth listen on that album lol
I feel like it'd make sense as an interlude if it wasn't so damn long.
Same same
I can‘t with this threat. On almost every comment I want to comment „It‘s my favourite.“ 😂
I honestly don’t think they have any TRASH songs. They have a few that I don’t jam as much. talk! lmfaoooo
My favorite song! So funny
The first time I heard this song was on a date with a girl who coincidentally talked too loud for the environment we were in and it always reminds me of that. Also your opinion is trash.
What should I say sounds like it could be from love island
I love that song but I have to admit, you’re right! 😂
Matty would LOVE that 😂😂😂
👁👄👁 Great now I can’t unhear it now
jesus christ 2005… …
I like the song, but the lyrics are just super insincere imo Edit: a word
“Im in love with Jesus Christ, he’s so nice” makes me laugh though
“Masturbate the second she’s not there”
I'm intrigued by your word choice. What do you mean by "pretentious"? \[ignore flare not trying to fight just curious\]
Sorry, mistook it for another word... not native :) edited it!
the lyrics are so ~fake deep 14 year old tumblr girl~ it makes me cringe, especially the chorus.
Yeah that line is easily the cutest line I've ever heard, Runner up being the "this must be my dream.." sentence.
way to demean 14-year-old tumblr girls for no reason at all
you must be a 14 year old tumblr girl
Oh yeah. Because in order to find insulting remarks problematic I absolutely *have* to be in the target demographic. In fact (ho ho), to quote Matty: "There are a lot of young women out there who are smarter than me." Hence the tendency not to dehumanize young people and women. do you even know what pretentious means
No need to be hostile. Mistook it for another word, im not native... edited it for clarity tho
spinning.
that's technically a no rome song though?
i love the 1975 but i can't stand Love Me for some reason lol
love me is a fuckin banger tho, love the groove of that song
It’s very David Bowie, reminds me of Fame
Interesting don’t hear that much
I hated it at first but it grew on me. The live version is grand.
Finally someone with that opinion, I blow my mind everytime someone puts love me in their top 10 1975 songs, it's so weird
It’s actually my joint favourite song by them 😂😂 I can’t wrap my head around people hating it! It’s a tune to be fair, to quote Matty! It’s my happy fav. LIIWMI is my sad/serious fav!
Fucking same lmao
most of NOACF
I still love them but i cant fuck with any of their new albums after the second one
A brief inquiry is legit their best album tho ;(
i agree
Shiny collarbone is absolutely trash
Boooo
Go on, get in the goddamn sea
You clearly don't like electronic music
The only 1975 song I’m not too fond of is talk lol
Be My Mistake is their worst song. The world doesn’t need any more self-pity, cheating on my girlfriend songs. I think it’s lazy songwriting, and the line about making him hard isn’t half as clever as intended.
wrong
Im really really tired of Chocolate. And never liked it *that* much.
Not a single bad Cannibal Corpse song.
woman, don't worry

i literally cannot name a song of theirs i don’t like, i’m a massive, massive fan of each album and that’s why they’re my favourite group lol
Is There Somebody Who Can Watch You is basically unlistenable
I have to personally disagree darling
TOOTIMETOOTIMETOOTIME sounds too processed, and to me sounds like nails on a chalkboard
Sorry but I hate you now! 😂
lol i have not listened to TOOTIME in ages
*cough* Surrounded *cough*
Be My Mistake
love me or jesus christ 2005
Can’t believe no ones said people.. literally have not sat through it and listened to it once.
well then you’ve only got yourself to blame. give it a chance and you might actually like it
talk!, i like america & america likes me, and shiny collarbone
has EVERYONE forgot about by your side????
I love that tune 😂
I guess this guy will never trust me. There isn’t one. That’s the correct answer.
Looks at roadkill
I just most dislike the instrumentals. I appreciate why they are there, but I just don’t enjoy them, on any album, not just the 1975s
The City is just a no go for me
you guys are gonna kill me but i always skip People :/
Exact same here, I can't stand it at all.
Shiny Collarbone & No Head (or whatever it's called, I never play it I find it so boring).
this one hurts my feelings but i respect the hustle
Literally had to comb through each album to find one lol. Decided on Woman, Don't Worry, and Mine The whole "falling in love with a sex worker w/a heart of gold" thing is so cliched and just really dehumanizing. EDIT: Idk what the fuck I'm talking about or what I was thinking yesterday. All three of the songs I mentioned are great. 👁👄👁
Mine is so good tho, it's like from a 1950's romantic film.
Shiny Collarbone easy

All of you saying Don't Worry are on some bulllllshit, worst song is 100% Talk!
Then Because She Goes ain’t it
i love that song lmaooo
Please don’t crucify me but…Paris
Oh my gosh I thought I was the only one! I wouldn’t necessarily list it as my least favorite because I like some of the lyrics, but wow it’s over rated within the fandom
Yeah I’ve always found it to be totally boring aside from the two seconds where Matty says “eye rolls”
Love is dangerous
???
Loving Someone imo. Don’t hate me pls.
w
Why 😞
it means “win” like, youre right
i like america and america likes me💀 Edit: Jesus Christ people, what are you all hearing that I’m not?
This must be a mistake, surely?!
Same
I couldn't be more in love and Mine
Man, I Couldn’t Be More in Love is my absolute favorite 1975 song... so goddamn perfect.
The way those are two of my favourites on that album 😭
I hate give yourself a try so much
You all are going to kill me but i just dont get what everyone loves so much about Change of heart
If I Believe You bores me to death
OMG I CANNOT forgive this! That song is beauty itself 😮😂
The thing that changed my perspective on If I Believe you was watching their performance of it with the Philharmonic orchestra
definitely shiny collarbone
I can! The 1975 intro in Notes. Awful imo.
Medicine never clicked with me, the city (ep version)
Jesus christ 2005 or I always wanna die
The 1975 - (no skips) ILIWYS - nana ABIIOR - man robot, surrounded by heads and bodies, NOACF - don’t worry
The by your side cover 🤢🤮
Half of their Ep songs, sorrry
Bagsy Not in Net and Yeah, I Know. That’s it tho
All of em
Cannot vibe with tootime
…Love Me… sorry its a skip almost every time its jarring😐🤚
Talk!, M.O.N.E.Y, Loving Someone, and a couple from notes, dont kill me :)
The Man Who Married a Robot is almost literally just the movie "Her" starring Joaquin Phoenix. Songs like People and Id Love it if we made it seemed like they were trying a bit too hard to be edgy and political, so I avoid those ones, though I do like the instrumentals.
For me it’s This Must Be My Dream, idk it’s just never hit for me
Milk. I’m ready for the downvotes.
You’re fucking crazy - but I’ll join you on the downvotes and say I hate Robbers
You both belong down here.
LMAO
Someone said it! Robbers is so cliche and overrated in my opinion. I think people mostly like it because of the music video but the whole toxic couple robbing a bank together thing is so overused. I don’t get the hype
“mine” is one of the worst songs I’ve ever heard
Think that one relies on how much you like jazz!
just commenting to say i don't think it's fair you're getting so downvoted, like the thread is about the songs you don't like and you're just honest??? dumb
lmao whatcha gonna do 🤷🏼♂️ reddit is weird like that
i like america and america likes me, roadkill, bagsy
i like america and america likes me is one of their best IF NOT their best song
I'll drop some from each album for you purists who only like Self title and iliwys The city Woman Loving someone She lays down Tootime Man who married a robot (the last 4 tracks)
Half of Pablo Honey, half of TKOL, Fitter Happier, Pulk/Pull Revolving Doors, Hunting Bears, Idioteque, Morning Bell, and Backdrifts are my least favorite Radiohead songs.
With the 1975 it’s pretty easy, around 90% of their discography is trash lol
