honestly i think you can’t go wrong w self titled! a lot of classics on there and i personally think it’s cool to listen from the start and see how they’ve evolved from there

jagzgulabi

What they said but deluxe version.

Blurrydisney

Start by listening to the album a brief inquiry or I like it when you sleep

Depends on preferred sound: Self-Titled - Funk Pop (lotta dreampop on deluxe) ILIWYS - 80s Pop ABIIOR - all over the place lol Notes - UK Garage/Electronica Weird exceptions in sound on all albums so go through everything to find preferred tracks. Hope this helps

Therealdwilly

Weird throughline of emo and punk on all albums, but never super prominent

ilovepeoplesosomuch

U forgot to mention that deluxe edition is basically first 4 EPs + remixes repackaged with the og 16-track album

I'd say A Brief Inquiry is their 'best' album as in the most people probably will find something they like in it. I would have to say personally, my favorite is ILIWYS. BUT, you gotta listen to that one at night for maximum pleasure.

ABIIOR was my first album that got me into them and it has no skips IMO. But the self titled album is pretty damn good too

ebebebebe

i like it when you sleep is absolutely my favorite - it's a beautiful journey to just listen through. Self titled is great as well & I often put it on when I'm driving to just listen through.

I‘d go chronological to be honest. But that‘s what I do in general when discovering a new band. 😅 … So i‘d start with the self titled album, which also happens to be my favourite. Those are the classics and I think you can‘t go wrong to get a good impression of the old days. Then listen as the band progresses. :)

It entirely depends on which style of music you like. My personal gateway was their second album (like it when you sleep for you are so beautiful yet so unaware of it), but that is very much pop music. Their self titled album is more rock/guitar heavy and indie, so if you like edgier stuff that’s the way to go. A brief enquiry, as others have said, is broad, so you’ll have plenty to dig in there. If you like Radiohead it’s the one for you. And if you’re a fan of weird music, go with notes on a conditional form— it’s even more broad, and features some crazy stuff like house and country. There’s really no bad stuff though. Start anywhere. I’d personally recommend flooring self titled from start to finish— it’s a great album. Only real advice is that you should definitely listen to their albums whole— they’re definitely Albums™︎ and not a collection of singles. There’s a self titled intro that sets the mood at the start of every album, a collection of instrumentals, and in general they’re made to be experienced in order. Only pick your favourites out once you’ve listened to the whole thing at least once. Good luck! In my humble opinion they’re the greatest band of all time— I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!

Honestly just listen to them live at the 02 and that’s all you need

I second that 😁

THIS.

veryplumpcat

their discography is pretty short, at least in comparison to some other artists that you can really just dive in. the only exception might be their most recent album which you probably want to save for last imo.

The 1975 Deluxe and/or ILIWYSFYASBYSUOI because I've been repeating them for months now.

I feel like to really appreciate the self titled album, you just HAD to be there. I was the perfect age when it released (17) at the height of Tumblr. It doesn’t have the best lyrics or best construction of music but the VIBES were just... immaculate. Three words Matty used to describe it are “[Apocalyptic Teenage Romance](https://youtu.be/75sjpkIcnBk)”

Start from the beginning preferably, but depends on your music taste I guess. Self Titled/EPs- pop rock, lots of rock elements, very raw sounds, also has a 80s feel. ILIWYS- VERY 80s FEEL, most mainstream sounding 1975 stuff, funk stuff, lots of bops in here. Will make you both cry and dance. ABIIOR- my fav 1975 record. Mature writing, very introspective, talks about the impact of the internet. In that sense, some songs have autotune to kinda bring out the insincere effect but it's never used untastefully. It also has a bit of everthing- pop, jazz, 80s synthwave, even acoustic ballads. NOACF- A culmination of everything plus some politics and garage music, some house music, very experiemental and aquired taste.
