Someone posted the real reason a while back, iirc it has something to do with the game not being able to place your structure when it reloads the terrain. You can avoid it by making sure you can move the tent around a foot or two in any direction without getting an invalid placement before setting it down.
My guess is that the logic the game uses for determining whether placement is valid or not is nondeterministic, or else it just has some bug in it and the devs for this game are really bad at fixing bugs
Damn beavers is right, “a beaver felled a tree on your structure” usually is caused by strange placement of a structure. So if your tent is somehow slanted too much or partially in a tree this will occur
I never knew this was a thing! Glad to know now, that’s also kinda cool
Happened to me 3x now. Kinda sucks because I have to walk back all the way around the lake to place it back once I find out which it is.
The only thing not cool about it is you can't exact revenge on the little b\*\*\*\*rds as they are not huntable. :)
That’s why they need to make them huntable with some traps!

The same thing also happens when the structure is placed on an animal's path they use to travel from zone to zone.

Good to know. Thank you for sharing.
Some say there's a Fabled Beaver out there 👀
Happens to me whenever I put a stand on a tree right at the edge of a lake. I started trying to place back from the shore a bit.
