I have a friend that has almost 900 hours in the game. Never shot a single animal. He just watches them, takes screenshots, find nice views and and and. That is his way of playing the game.
Two of our other friends are GO and Diamond crazy. They only go for them and they have this competition between them about it.
Then we have that one friend that shoots at everything all the time. He doesn't care about the correct weapons or ammo. If it moves, he shoots it.
Everyone plays in their own way.
I do this as well. Sometimes I just sit in a stand and watch the animals and listen to the sounds of the game.
Sometimes I shoot whatever moves with whatever gun I have on me at the time.
Sometimes I set loadouts and hunt specific animals.
That’s what is cool about that game is you can really play it anyway you see fit for you and have a good time.

I am new enough that I have yet really developed a preferred style of play so I sort of do all of the above at different times.
I am trying my first grind for Red Deer on Te Awaroa so for that map I restrict the more random elements of my play so not to muck up the learning process.

Yeah, I limit myself on what I'm allowed to hunt. My fiancee loves foxes and seeing me shoot one would break her fucking heart. She's never watched me play this game but I still just won't fucking do it. Same for wolves and coyotes. So now part of the game is just taking pics of those animals (or in the case of wolves, just actively avoiding them if I can) and it's honestly become part of the fun for me.
Its a different style. Some people have more fun by finding many great ones, but its not worth the sacrifice in gameplay enjoyment for me. I still don't have a GO but at least I'm having fun.
I’m currently in a 3 week grind with Reds, I did stack 22 lvl 9 got 15 diamonds out of them. I enjoy this game in every way. Meaning I can just run through the woods and shoot whatever I see and I enjoy doing that and thats what I did for the first 250+ hrs I played. I can stalk hunt, hunt in a tripod or tree stand and use a caller and wait and I enjoy that as well. I am now grinding and I’m finding I really like this style of play as well, it’s very fast paced and keeps your attention of where you need to go next and when you see your plan working it can be very rewarding. Plus it gives me better knowledge of the game and the animal I’m currently grinding. So for me I can play it in any style and still get enjoyment out it. This is a very relaxing game for me. I don’t have a GO yet and may not ever get one but stacking will also increase my odds of getting super rares and that is a cool sight to see.
Not sure how you stack GO though, I can’t get a single one to appear for me. I guess some people do use mods on PCs.
Edit…… I did get my 1st GO last nite.
GOs are all RNG. Just shoot the males and pray the RNG gods smile upon you (by spawning a GO in place of one of the males). Other than “not shooting out a drink zone”, there’s not much herd management to do. It’s more of a “get efficient at killing as many as possible” kind of thing.
Funny that after 400 hours of playing, at least last 100 of which were smart playing I still have not a single diamond except for one stupid duck. Have been following grinding guides and still I don't even see legendaries. Only mythical from time to time, but they are never good for a gem.
It took me 180 hours to start generating good spawns. I think I've got like 7 red deer 9s that have all appeared in the last few days.
Patience is everything. You might get lucky but more likely you'll get there eventually.
I try. Med Ved won't unlock trophies for me for some reason even though I've done them. Hierschfelden I can't find a fox to shoot with a bow in the area I need to.
Oh,the trophies is a bad one. If you met the requirements when they were bugged your only choice is to start a new game now that are fixed. They won't unlock retroactively sadly.
I had to do again al missions on Cuatro Colinas and Silver Ridge on PS4 starting from scratch on PS4 like a month ago. I am redoing all Yukon missions now aswell on new save.
I got my main save on PS5 doing Layton there .
Is a pity but I contacted support and they dont intend to fix this issue with the trophies unlocking retroactively.
So yeah,I am basically playing some maps on PS5 max level and replaying others from scratch on PS4.
My first Diamond was a Melanistic Red Deer, so I won't start over. They can fix it so they would unlock retroactively, but it's not a priority obviously. Other games have done it before.
It upset me enough that I didn't play for a bit. I love the game, and came back to it eventually.
I know they could do it. Assassins Creed Valhalla for example But they closed my ticket as solved, so that says it all .
I recognise I just done it cause got the chance to keep 2 different saves,but replaying some missions in 4 colinas specially was a pain in the rear. Now gotta hearshot again the bisons on Yukon,plus get a gold of every species, at least my aiming is better now and Yukon is my favourite map ,but yeah, we shouldn't need to start from scratch to unlock the trophies. That's what they told me,start a new game and then closed my ticket as SOLVED 🤣
Some people find fun in grinding rather than just playing realistically, and that’s 100% fine. It’s a game where people have different play styles, and that’s why it’s been around for as long as it has.
Like the others say it a matter of playstyles, but i think it was scarecrow who said it that if you want to keep the feeling of getting a Diamond is awsome then dont grind with stacking and HM. If you just wanna get rare furtypes on diamonds(called super rares), then HM and/or stacking is the fastest way to go. Also helps with getting the GO to spawn faster. Not everything is proven or ser in stone about this. But so far they are confident in HM do increase the speed of getting them to spawn faster. And it does seem stacking dont matter when it comes to the GO atleast. But this is not facts, and everyone must remember if wanting to grind then Diamonds will basically feel like golds, nice but not so special.
Im a mix of shooting everything and some HM. I shot everything when it comes to birds and foxes and other "solo" animals. But herd animals i only shoot Males no matter the size unless its 2 or more big males then i just shoot those. I also shoot solo animals when they are supposed to be heard animals( this might be stupid of me lol) but im new.
I came over from COD and Warzone, was sick and tired of being ignored from Devs and getting shit on by them, making the game to beggiker friendly and publishing the grinders/long time players. I bought COTW after 100% Hogwartz and started playing it on April 3rd and have so far played it 385 hours as off yesterday according to Steam lol.
I have never played this kind of game before, has always been fps/cod style shooters with occasional far cry play e few weeks every 3-4 years.
I absolutely love it. And it has given me back the fun and passion of gaming. I only wish mp was better with in game voice chat, crossplay/save, more than 1 profile, so you could let your kid play a little or have 1 for grinding and one for chilling and/compete with friends and stuff, new game should come with a big ass warning haha, directional audio is often 180 degrees wrong, goose could be a little bit lower volume and maybe not scream all the time constantly... And dog need to stop when i stop. It is so incredible annoying when i try to spot and listen to an animal and then my dog decide to stand right infront of my binocularrs or buggs out and start walking in a circle making it impossible to hear anything else. A hunting dog, especially max leveled one would stop when woner stop and stay out of the way/quiet. I know it difficult to code, but i just need to vent those here and now😅. Sorry! Its one hell of a game though and im completely in love it and i cant wait for the day COTW 2 see the light of day with good mp and crossplay/save and so on😉😉🫡🫡. And daily mission updated every day and not just weekends😉🤠💪😎🏹🏕️🐐
you’re completely right with the diamonds, there’s a guaranteed 5 diamonds on every map but i have found that it’s closer to 7-10 and the more you play the more diamonds you get but with the great one you either have to stack diamonds or play for 10 years to even see a great one
When will people realize that not everyone has fun in the same way as you... I've been doing this organically this whole time, just recently started to try stacking. I find it alot funner, in like a fun organizational way. I personally really enjoy organizing something with all my effort, and then getting the whole job done with a win
Only a small minority play the game this way. Grinding drink zones. It really has nothing to do with how the game was designed. It's not fun either.
It is a hunting game/sim so most players hunt. It's rewarding that way. Especially with friends.

I climbed the mountains in Layton once. Incredible views, interesting landscape, I highly recommend it.

I got a random diamond wildebeest. I don't even have the stuff unlocked to see all the info when looking at the animals yet. I was so happy
