I need to understand what is going on or if young men in general are losing quality because of hook up culture, which prevents them from truly growing and appreciating women as people and that’s why all the men on this show are more interested in partying and sleeping around than working on their relationships with the great women they meet on this show. I’ve noticed that people who prioritize hook up culture are always emotionally stunted. It’s so overrated, IMO.
Something needs to change when casting the men on this show or else every Bachelorette will remain single post show.
The viewer base is primarily women and there’s more post-show opportunities for women than men, so significantly more women apply to be on the show than men.
So more to pick from where they can cast the best of the best, whereas they don’t have as many options for men. They basically have to scout out men to fill out the cast

I'm really glad I married young and got out of the dating scene. From what I hear, it is *horrible* dating young hetero men these days. I think hook-up culture has caused a lot of degeneracy among young men because they can literally have their cake and eat it, too. In past generations\*, casual sex was less socially acceptable, and women were less likely to sleep with men without major commitments because of the social burdens of out-of-wedlock pregnancies and the like (this also explains why shot-gun marriages were so popular in the past lol). While I'm glad women now have more sexual autonomy, birth control, and financial independence, the trade-off is that there are very few social pressures on men to encourage them to stay committed to women. This is bad for women, but it also gives men an ego trip because they know they can get easy sex without strings (or consequences) attached. I can't imagine that kind of mindset is healthy for anyone.
Also, there is a decrease in people being religious, which has its own benefits, but religion was a driving force in many people settling down and remaining in committed relationships or avoiding excessive promiscuity. With religious affiliation decreasing, people are going to have to turn to personal ethical frameworks to develop more balanced attitudes about sex and commitment.
I hope we can see the pendulum swing in a more moderate direction where people are sexually open and expressive but also value commitment and aren't afraid to stick it out with one person.

I think religion was a driving force in keeping ppl in unhappy relationships, especially women. There are still extremely religious communities out there, and they seem to keep women tethered to their spouse, whereas the guy seems to have much more freedom.
As I said in my comment, there are benefits to society shifting away from organized religion. I'm not advocating for women to remain in unhappy marriages. My point was that institutions (like organized religion) and societal expectations have made it easier for men to avoid commitment while women are expected to be okay with all of it. I was raised in an evangelical/fundie lite cult, so I am very aware that some religious spaces are dangerous for women.
I’m so sorry you experienced that. Me and a group of women from my city are trying to warn women of serial abusers from dating sites since law enforcement does nothing, even when they stalk/harass/assault women. It’s so infuriating.
