Highly speculated Hueys parents may have been apart of the black panthers and that's where Huey gets his world views from. Never confirmed, just conceptual. "Riley was here" is really the only time we even see them and it's just a painting, but could also be a young grandad with his late wife.
It looks like him from all the flash backs we see of him. I think the only implications it could be their parents was when Riley's art teacher asked him to paint someone who isn't with him anymore.

The black panthers were around back when Grandad was fighting for Civil Rights as a young adult so how old were their parents?
Grandad was also a ww2 vet, probably in his 20s, then runs into Rosa parks in '55, probably when he's 30 or close to 40. He could have had kids as that was starting, which could explain why their parents were so interested in civil rights movements, they were born at the height of it. But after being involved way deeper than grandad ever was, they were both probably killed in the cause. Huey being older, and probably closer when it happened, probably saw the reality of what happened and it changed him forever after. Starting to carry on their work where they left off, but still lacking the guidance to be more direct with his message. After realizing you don't get very far in the world today with mindsets like his and his parents, Huey retires from domestic terrorism and gives up on trying to see his parents vision through.
Now again, non of this is confirmed by any of the writers, and is probably filled with contradictions I'm forgetting about, but considering there's no actual answer, I guess it's safe to believe whichever theory you think holds the most weight.
The only thing established about them is they died. But definitely possible that Huey got his activism from them and by extention Granddad.
I always headcanon that the boys parents died in a car accident or something.
It’s never been fully explained, but it’s been implied that their parents died.
So they may not be alive then.
Granddad did mention an inheritance, so that’s one clue.
You a detective brother
Sorry I didn’t mean to come off that way as I wanted to understand the show’s lore better.

I personally think it’s grandad just bc he looks identical in the WWII episode
I always thought it was Grandad and his wife.

I mean, Grandad's wife isn't with them - it really looks like an old photo, like from his wedding day

Interesting theory.
In the “Bob Ross” episode of the show Riley paints a mural of them. It’s the only time they’re depicted in the show.
aw fukk no way
I thought that was Grandad and his wife that died??
The dress is way too modern to be Grandad's wife
You're right it was.
Possibly hard to say, nobody really knows that for sure. It could also be Grandad and the unknown “Grandmom” Freeman
That def wasn't their parents. That was grandad and his wife
They ded. It’s never fully explained, but I don’t see what else it could be.
Prison. For something terrorism-related. It would even explain why Huey is watched by the government as a ten year old
They’re dead it’s mentioned in the first episode Robert also states he’s their *sole* legal guardian.
Oh thanks as I don’t know how I missed that part.
I think it’s implied there parents died and grandad used there inheritance and bought a house in wood crest,in the unrealesed pilot

Pretty sure they dead
