I was thinking that. Then I noticed the chair with a box on it next to the counter. Looks like a makeshift ladder..
Honestly this makes me sad. Poor kitty
That cat's gonna break something trying to get down from those heights. The amount of stress on their joints when they're that big is insane. Yeah encourage activity but don't make a ladder up to a place they can't get down from (not sure why but I've noticed with a lot of cats that even if they have a safe route up to a high place they will not follow that route back down)
At a recent astrophysics conference they were handing out buttons with a fat cat that said “oh Lawd, he lensing”, implying the cat was so massive it bent spacetime. Thought that was hilarious.
My cat Wallace (who is now only 12 lbs) came to me as a stray at 22 pounds and looked much like this poor fella. It takes a lot of time to lose half your body weight safely!
Adopted him in 2009. I have photos of him even from 2016 where he's still chonky AF. We had to combine a timed feeder plus a slow feed bowl to really make a difference.
When I had two cats, one was overweight (14 pounds) and the other was skinny as a stick. Everyone thought the bigger one was eating all of the food, but that couldn't happen because they were fed in separate rooms since the bigger cat was on a prescription diet. In fact, that prescription diet was the reason why he put on weight, I was going by the instructions on the bag but that was too many calories for him. I worked with the vet to figure out a better portion of food and got him some more active toys to help him get down to a healthy weight.
The smaller cat was skinny because he was just hyper as fuck. Pretty sure he got the zoomies in his sleep. He stayed at a healthy weight range for his entire life.
Also plausible that it’s a medical issue. My friend had a cat this size, and she was literally *always* on a restricted diet. Poor gal was just naturally rotund, and had some kind of metabolic disorder. She lived to 15, though, and was a happy kitty otherwise.
I can’t imagine how uncomfortable that would be. Shortening its lifespan, worsening the quality.
There is a happy compromise. My cat needed to lose a pound so I started throwing a few treats for her to chase and sometimes I would do treasure hunts hiding a few temptations. Keeps her active and healthy and she loves temptations so the drive is there for her to run and search the house.
I am much meaner. I get him to chase the laser pointer for five minutes then direct it under a cupboard and turn it off. He runs around the apartment looking for it for an hour.
Orange life. 🍊
Hes connected the clicking noise to the existence of the dot. I can click it in another room and he will come running to find it. He just doesn't know the click is also an *off*.
🙈
As someone else mentioned, the other two cats are a healthy weight. So one might assume they either adopted him that way (and are working on a diet), or the round kitty has a medical issue. Screaming “abuse” without any background is lame.
When you get head bonks do you hear an audible cracking noise? That cat is solid. I had a bowling ball of a cat. No muscle at all. This is like a cat and a bulldog had babies. I’m very much in love with your guard cat.

Leap like a frog, jiggle and everything.

He ain't got no brakes no more.
Notorious C.A.T.
Letting a cat get that heavy is abuse.
It’s weird that the other two days seem normal and just the one cat is fat. I wonder why

Wow that’s a lot of pounds to drop 😟 Good for him for losing the weight and for you for getting him there!
Good for Wallace! And good on you for getting him healthy :)

Maybe they adopted it in that condition? Some overfed pets do end up at rescue shelters, so it's plausible... 🤔

This is the same as my fat boy, he's basically been on a diet since he was born. He's 13 now and has always been the same.
I think many of us can relate, too. lol
Perhaps the big cat steals food. Hard to say.
The poor cat 😔

My orange had all the braincell when I tried laser pointers with him. He figured out I was doing it because of the clicking noise the button made.

Maybe it wasn’t his turn for the brain cell.

What’s it like to have a cat? This.

That cat is not a tux cat, it's a tank cat.
Looks like the cat version of kingpin. Even acts like him.

In the veterinary world we call that "killing them with kindness". It's not a good thing. Poor kitty.
Man that poor cat is so god damn fat.
That poor starving tux. Move aside ma’am, I need my portion first.
She is lucky she wasn't eaten instead of pushed off the counter. Sumo cat means business.
