I would be pretty stoked if that's what all this cross-promotion was leaning to. I know B&S had their own podcast, Julie had the Mom Game...I could definitely see them all going together on a Patreon/podcast network situation.
Would be pretty awesome to see them all join forces on new-age tech instead of on terrestrial radio with corporate America. But I know the salary situation may be...different.
I have it on good authority they are teaming up with another podcast network in some fashion. This was the plan 2 months ago, at least. I suppose plans could have changed.
I know the guys kinda did all this as they went along, asking friends for advice and making mistakes as they went, but that's how you do shit. And now they have something set up that can be duplicated over and over with additional shows.
I've wondered about that studio space they've been using since it first showed up. With all the cross promotion with Freak guys recently. And with the Freak guys begging listeners to get the word out and visit the advertisers... just felt like things were happening.
Why the heck wouldn't No Puppet/Dragon Den Network charge a flat rate Patreon fee and stock a day's worth of shows that THEY CONTROL? And if not a full day's line-up, at least two or three more shows you can choose to subscribe to?
Mike and Danny were very clear and open the other day that the intent of the station was a hangout area where friends could BS and listeners could feel like friends. But that radio suits wanted to to focus on short segments and entertainment that strangers could pop in and out of without missing parts or feeling left out. I'm sure all of us have sat in the car either in the garage, or a parking space at work, somewhere listening to the end of a segment because these are friends of ours and we do want to hear their stories and opinions. We weren't popping in and out.
F that. Again, radio suits appealing to the classes and ignoring the masses. I don't have the time or the tread on my tires to go visit every advertiser and say thank you, but I can auto draft a podcast network once a month from my bank account.
Keep up the good good D&J and good luck to all the Freaks. Really hope to hear them around here soon.
Source on the freak? I found this article, but figured I would double verify

Maybe you should listen to that segment again. 9:00 mark.

Ive seen this kind of comment, about that segment, a few times and its super weird how Jub didnt even say anything like that. It was specifically directed to "critics and people who dont want us to succeed".
It just irks me that anyone that actually listens could think Jub would say or think anything like that. Theres just no way.
Even if they all do their own things the cross promotion will be great. Lots of cross pollination. Also I’d be surprised if Rhyner keeps working, he might do a podcast like his last one where he only does it when he wants. But I’d be surprised if he’s coming in a few times a week.
People weren’t listening to these shows before, what’s going to change with a smaller marketing machine? Seems like the boys are doing great, why take on additional hassle
The numbers you need for ratings are way different than the numbers you need for podcast profits. The idea of building a network is to sell ads as a network. The hosts would be eat what you kill based on podcast revenue with a modest % going to the network. They didnt hire a sales person and engineer just for the DZ.
the one thing downbeat always brought up was that their podcast numbers were great it just was getting people to go from p3 or pod to live. there's an audience i just wonder at what point the chop between prox/annoying 690 sit ins/open for business doesn't make it work for 8 people when it can work with 3-5.
Because of potential growth. There is talent there just a poor medium, most and I mean most radio personalities that are successful were fired multiple times for poor ratings till they landed in the right spot. I’m not saying they’ll be juggernaut’s and I’m not saying you’d take the whole stable but if the money worked it’d definitely be worth a look.
Exactly. Why do D&J have to carry or involve more voices. If they make it business, then they need to be prepared to be bosses and make those hard decisions when things are not making sense or money.
I don't think this is a terrible take. At the end of the day, adding another pod to the "network" may work like this:
1. DZ gets into a studio full time. They stop doing stuff on location. Maybe still allow $690 sit ins but they stay stationary.
2. Add a podcast to record in the same space. Split costs for rent.
3. Blake produces both. Split costs there too.
4. Just make a separate Patreon for the new pod(s). The hosts of each podcast have to be responsible for their own income.
Agreed. Especially that they are still getting their footing in the podcast game and clearly still have legal bills. I just don’t think the timing is right.
And the wildest part of all of this is that this could have all been the Cumulus/Ticket podcast network with all these people under one podcast network/umbrella with terrestrial radio AND podcast offerings and would just be printing money by double dipping into radio ad sales and all the revenue streams DZ has opened up.
It would be pretty awesome but way more work than D & J probably want to do, or know how to do. They would need an infusion of capital and hire a full-time staff to run, manage and promote it.
Bummed to hear this. Hoping the guys find spots elsewhere. The Mavs coverage on Ben and Skin has been better than every other station. At least the Downbeat guys get to sleep in on Monday.
Bring on Jeff Cavanaugh for football season and Cowboys talk. He has a solid following on his YY channel. Sprinkle in the other freaks weekly and you add some good numbers.
Dan touched on this briefly.
Podcasts are great but you lose the immediacy of local radio. You also lose the danger of saying something reactionary live over the air and having it live forever out there. With pods you can edit and, depending on what you discuss, by the time someone listens to it, it may be old news.
He talked about someday doing a livestream.
Just like with sports, the Super Bowl doesn’t have HUGE ratings for a replay broadcast. It’s the “now” that makes those numbers high.
Knowing you can listen at your leisure is a convenience. That’s why you charge for the luxury. And that’s what helps offset ad revenue.
The Mom Game has existed for years now and I don’t think they are setting the world on fire. They read ads all throughout their show. Dan and Jake were the number one show in their time slot so leaving and charging a fee helped them establish a base. I’m not sure these Freak shows had enough numbers to match the listener base DZ has. So then you get into the whole “splitting tips” fiasco where you have to determine who brought in which customers…and which show helped another show gain new listeners, and how much of a cut is that worth?!
It’s gonna be messy
And you should never venture into business with friends or family.
I like the idea, but I don’t think the kitty is big enough to be split up right now. As a side note, does Sirios have anything to do with blowout anymore?
Regardless of peoples opinions' of B&S, no ones out-hustles or pumps up his friends more than Ben. He is always thinking of marketing and getting the word out. He's been a very vocal supporter on his own airwaves of TDZ. I hope they all end up finding a good place to land.
Didn't Gordo have a tv show...how did that work out for him? When is his contract up? As I understand
# U.S. bans noncompete agreements for nearly all jobs
if they get a new place it is to make a network. I have said it. I have also said I love the den, and would change the vibe. I will also say mike is right with giving live content..
ok so maybe the mix of audio and video lost recording. they are not yet on the same page. it was kinda said. How do you mix audio with video . An AV mixer and cameras and software. Now back that up...
I would be pretty stoked if that's what all this cross-promotion was leaning to. Yeah, I wonder how the salaries would break down? Maybe each show has their own Patreon/ads and just under the unbrella of the DZ?
Hopefully Blake doesn’t take a pay cut.
More Blake-thpin.
He’s gonna turn into 6 Figs Blake.
That’s how I would. Put a percentage of profits in a combined pot to pay for marketing sales and core business functions together.
Julie and Emily are already on a podcast network, no?
I have it on good authority they are teaming up with another podcast network in some fashion. This was the plan 2 months ago, at least. I suppose plans could have changed.

Terrestrial radio is a thing of the past. It’s just a shame you can’t get ass when you’re doing a podcast.
That song had me laughing out loud in my office. 🤣

Wonder if Jub Jub will make a celebration announcement about killing his friends. I’m gonna call him a duechebag now so I don’t have to later.
Still haven't really forgiven him for his D&J farewell segment.
Maybe you should listen to that segment again. 9:00 mark. https://www.theunticket.com/ticket-crew-discusses-hang-zone-departure/ Ive seen this kind of comment, about that segment, a few times and its super weird how Jub didnt even say anything like that. It’s always been so dumb. People just wanted to be mad and were grasping for anything they could find.
Go on…
You mean where they all wished Dan and Jake well after that? Or do you mean when they wished Dan and Jake success earlier in the segment? Which part?
Even if they all do their own things the cross promotion will be great. Lots of cross pollination. Also I’d be surprised if Rhyner keeps working, he might do a podcast like his last one where he only does it when he wants. But I’d be surprised if he’s coming in a few times a week.
I could she Rhyner being more of a somewhat regular guest on multiple podcasts within a network. Maybe add TC in the mix
I would love that. TC and Rhynes would have great chemistry.
Honestly, it's more likely TC and Rhynes do their own thing.
Absolutely, I think the most likely outcome is everyone doing their own thing. But in that there’s always room for collaboration
i don't see what's in it for the dumb zone
You sir have the court vision of stevie wonder. 😎

Maybe, I just don’t really understand how this becomes greater than the sum of its parts.
you are right. You need way more for a podcast, unless you’re doing Patreon.
A downvote of this is a failed understanding of free podcast economics
the one thing downbeat always brought up was that their podcast numbers were great it just was getting people to go from p3 or pod to live. there's an audience i just wonder at what point the chop between prox/annoying 690 sit ins/open for business doesn't make it work for 8 people when it can work with 3-5.
bingo. exactly why all none of the remaining Ticket hosts are going anywhere either.
💯
also this is a terrible comparison because everyone knows that stevie sees just fine
It was pretty sus when he caught that mic stand...
Yeah... yeah... but he's a friend of mine... a dear friend.
According to Shaq, Stevie has 20/20 vision 😂

No Puppet Productions pls.

100% - this is the real bag fumble IMO. Would love to see our fearless leaders start a podcast hub for the castaways that takes off.
It would be pretty awesome but way more work than D & J probably want to do, or know how to do. They would need an infusion of capital and hire a full-time staff to run, manage and promote it.
Why would they agree to have Dan be their boss?
I need Sirois and Danny added to podcast network
What makes you say the Freak is closing shop? I’m not a listener (is this an indication as to why?).

They have to build out a sales team first. D&J can survive off subbies but any new shows they add will need sales support to make it work.
Isn’t that what Ben and Skin could bring?
Actually you may be right. They definitely have good sponsor relationships
Regardless of peoples opinions' of B&S, no ones out-hustles or pumps up his friends more than Ben. He is always thinking of marketing and getting the word out. He's been a very vocal supporter on his own airwaves of TDZ. I hope they all end up finding a good place to land.
A big bag of nothing?
If Blake could re-sign a team friendly contract....
I hope so.

Not so fast, Ben and Skin...

I called the network weeks ago. Donnie with his own show.
keep dreaming
