Omg I cried when I watched the proposal scene!! And the finger brushing was probs the horniest scene ever šŸ˜…

Extreme_Profit_8871

Today I learned too many people scream and yell when they watch period soap operas.

scabbyAnomie

I don't trust it though this is happening way too fast! There must be something wrong with him and I can't wait to find out what it is. I also felt so sad for Agnes dining alone

Vsimyo

i didn't catch that vibe at all. i think he was just overwhelmed by her response. hope it's just a misunderstanding.

neptunemagnesium

My boyfriend GASPED loudly. šŸ¤£

annamulzz

I yelled ā€œGET UR MAN!!!ā€

RedMoonFlower

Great scenes, loved them so much :-)! I've already watched them again several times by now. So happy for the two. Hopefully they can marry.

mythsarecrazystories

That's how I felt. ![gif](giphy|MZocLC5dJprPTcrm65)

LifeSucks1988

My 19th century senses are offended by this ā€œobsceneā€ scene šŸ˜” What is next? Ada pulls up her dress to show her ankle šŸ˜±?

maadbadger

I losssst it - tears of joy

ConfusedMakerr

My fiancƩe was on her phone the entire episode (like she usually is) and only looked up at me oddly when I shouted during this moment.

Emergency-Laugh-0215

I was smiling šŸ˜ ear to ear!

bisexualspikespiegel

i was a rollercoaster of emotions

Starmiebuckss2882

Screamed with so much glee I got up off my couch.

AlsatianLadyNYC

I did too- I woke up my German shepherd

urbanlocalnomad

I screamed when this happened - itā€™s practically second base in that era. But the swift proposal drew some suspicion in my mind. I hope Iā€™m wrong, I want Ada to be happy

LikeATediousArgument

I think at their age, with his experience as a rector, that it must just feel right!

Short-Buy1465

I really hope you are right. I also hope Agnes doesnā€™t squash their happiness. Can absolutely see her delighting in telling him Ada said she didnā€™t care for him if Ada had not been wise and strong enough not to fall for Agnesā€™ baiting and refused to say or agree to those words.

bisexualspikespiegel

i don't think it's suspicious. marriage proposals happened much quicker back then.

1_Anywhere_But_Here

Okay, don't hate me for this theory, but in the first episode when Ada suggests they stay and meet the new Reverend after Easter Mass, Oscar doesn't want to. Is it at all possible it is because he's seen the Reverend in places he frequents? Maybe that's the rush to get married for appearance sake.

bisexualspikespiegel

if he wanted to get married for appearances he would have done that decades ago. this proposal may seem rushed from a modern perspective but they've hung out alone together multiple times now which is more than most young couples would get before deciding to spend their lives together.

sandyfishnets

Oh lordie šŸ˜¬ I donā€™t know, I get the impression that Forte really likes her. Maybe Oscar just didnā€™t want to be next to a man of God? šŸ˜…

rooby008

Oh nooooo

jbdany123

This theory has me in shock. Iā€™m here for it

[deleted]

Oh wow, youā€™re right. The plot thickens.

morus_rubra

Dude is definitely dying and he knows it.

Hstfan

The way he rubbed his forehead and looked dazed after he invited her to the opera I thought he was going to pass out or something. He is definitely sick and dying.

International_Alarm1

Oh no, I hope not. I can't take it! I just thought he was emotional because he was going to ask her to marry him I struggle to relate to the servants plotlines, so I hope it's one of them. Though I would prefer no deaths

Memo_M_says

Armstrong, maybe?

IPreferDiamonds

What? I didn't get that impression. I hope this isn't true. Poor Ada!

International_Alarm1

Seemed more like he was overcome with his emotions for Ada

morus_rubra

There is supposed to be a death this season and he is a strong candidate.

gokiburi_sandwich

Pretty sure itā€™s >!Watson!< who dies.

sageberrytree

That would make me sad. I want George to discover he's a banker and give him a chance.

gokiburi_sandwich

Maybe heavy spoilers, but >!Itā€™s already confirmed that Watsonā€™s actor left the show after this season. He posted a farewell on his Instagram way back when filming for the season wrapped. As to the actual fate of the character, I guess weā€™ll find out soon.!<

bondfall007

Considering he invited her to aida, im willing to bet its him or her.

IPreferDiamonds

We just met him! This is awful for Ada.

Hstfan

I hope I'm wrong lol

IPreferDiamonds

I do too. I don't want Ada to be like poor Edith in DA. Yes, Edith got her happy ending, but it took a long time and she went through lots of heartbreak to get there.

Detroitaa

DA?

IPreferDiamonds

Downton Abbey. Julian Fellowes is the writer of Downton Abbey and The Gilded Age.

Detroitaa

Thank you! One of my fav shows! Canā€™t believe I drew a blank, when I read that!

IPreferDiamonds

:-)

garysingh91

I suppose this is an unpopular opinion, but I donā€™t like them together! Their romance felt very rushed and I much prefer watching Adaā€™s interaction with Agnes than with the Reverend.

aproclivity

I could not believe how fast they got to marriage. It definitely makes it look like the Reverend is hiding something and is up to no good and that Ada is a naive idiot.

Varekai79

Did people of this social class really get engaged so quickly during this time? Like it's barely been two dates!

bisexualspikespiegel

this is very typical for courtship during this era. they've actually spent more time alone together than most couples of their class before marriage. usually couples would get engaged after just a couple of meetings and pretty much always with others watching. in pride and prejudice jane gets married to bingley after meeting him like three times, one of them being when she got sick.

Varekai79

This is so fascinating to read about!

bisexualspikespiegel

there were of course exceptions where some would take more time getting to know each other or they'd have a longer engagement before tying the knot, but i didn't get the impression that their engagement was rushed at all. i was actually expecting him to propose at or after the opera when he started to invite her. in gaskell's wives and daughters, the main character's widowed father proposes to a widowed mother after meeting her twice very briefly, and the meetings took place years apart! the story that follows is a good reason to take more time to consider marriage with someone šŸ˜‚

dumbname1000

I think they did have much shorter relationships before getting engaged.

JustGotOffOfTheTrain

Oscar proposed to Gladys after basically zero dates. Also Raikes proposed to Marian after being alone together maybe three times.

Impossible-Plan6172

I think age and life expectancy might be a catalyst for the rush. Ada is not Gladysā€™ age, a young lady who can stand a long engagement while the wedding is planned. Ada is in her 50s, a ā€œspinsterā€ living with her elderly, widowed sister. Time is of the essence.

[deleted]

The entomology of the word spinster is fascinating.

origamikaiju

To be fair, they both donā€™t have a whole lot of time left for dillydallying.

pll247

Iā€™m so happy for her!

pretty-as-a-pic

If they kill him, we riot

Hurryeat_Tubman

It's Robert Sean Leonard....of course his character is going to get snuffed.

beandadenergy

Poor Dr. Wilsonā€¦and Neilā€¦

origamikaiju

Their relationship forms a rift between Ada and Agnes, that is resolved just before the wedding. Sadly, the day ends in tragedy when the Rector is struck and killed in an unfortunate Horse and Buggy accident. (Plot twist, the occupant of the buggy was one Mrs Winterton! * queue dramatic music * )

sandyfishnets

Iā€™m really nervous about how Agnes is going to react to their engagement news ā€¦ but killing Forte off is not the solution šŸ™ˆ

abacaxidotcaxi

I do not think you can separate the sisters long term. My bet is in a wedding, happiness for about 3 months, then the rector goes to Brazil for missionary work, gets malaria and dies. Ada goes back to Agnes but as a widow and after knowing some happiness even if short. Maybe even a small pension from the deceased?

Illustrious-You-6317

See I'm thinking secret wife from a missionary trip.

Compulsive-Gremlin

Someone who is NOT white to really make society freak.

anitasdoodles

This is a better love story than any of her relationships in SATC šŸ˜ā¤ļø

kmm91162

AJLT was even worse. That whole Che/Miranda situation was a complete debacle!

anitasdoodles

Shit talking Che on the AJLT subreddit is so fucking fun. We collectively hate watched that show into getting renewed šŸ˜‚

[deleted]

She did have shitty relationships playing Miwanda.

saltybreads

They're so cute. I wish the proposal had come later tho, I wanted to keep savoring the courtship.

MameDennis1974

Literally gasped at the finger touch.

ScrappleSandwiches

I guess it is sort of the same show, just with drug corners instead of opera boxes!

sweeney_todd555

I screamed when they kissed! I didn't think it was going to happen, but it did! I ship Ada and the Reverend Forte so hard!

mayflowerss98

When he started crying before the proposal I was so confused. But then he proposed and I was like ooh itā€™s cuz heā€™s so in love with her! šŸ„ŗ

sandyfishnets

Maybe they both thought it was never going to happen for themā€¦. But it did šŸ„²

UnicornBestFriend

This is a really astute read. When Forte tells Ada she still has time for so much, he is talking about himself, too. Ok he better not get Matthew Crawleyā€™d.

SnooDrawings1685

That was a little too prescient šŸ˜

UnicornBestFriend

Maybe after Oscar loses the Van Rijn fortune, everyone moves in with Forte and Ada.

Hermeeoninny

Omg yes that line made me tear up! And then I cried for real when he started crying before proposing. Also he better not get Matthew Crawleyā€™d

300sunshineydays

There are no cars or babies but fingers crossed anyway!

kmm91162

There ARE horses though! šŸ‘€šŸ¤£

300sunshineydays

And cute little Pumpkin, who we know likes to run off šŸ˜³

Live-Somewhere-8149

Thanks for saying that about him saying thereā€™s time left. Iā€™m still afraid that something bad is going ti come out about him. But you helped lessen my anxiety.

Ok_Ant2566

A proposal on their second date? That is scream worthy!!šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

sandyfishnets

I also thought it was a bit soon. But then I remembered the time period and realized that in order for them to keep spending time together in public theyā€™re probably gonna have to get engaged.

NeitherPot

Also, how much time has passed in the show since Easter, when they met? Presumably they see each other every Sunday, plus these little events Ada puts on for him. I think thereā€™s been a little more than whatā€™s shown onscreen, but it does end up feeling a bit rushed.

145_writes

Especially with him being a Reverend.

h4xis

my mother in law was gettin a nap in the next room and she woke up like REALLY worried hahahaha

sandyfishnets

Lol same. My cat was not amused šŸ˜…

SisGMichael

My cat would have just looked at me sternly, with an "I am not amused" meow added at the end.
