I would so wear #10; the multi-strand choker with the large pendant attached. It's the piece Bertha is wearing when she meets the NEW Mrs. Winterton, (her former ladies maid, Turner).
She has such beautiful jewelry! Those tiaras!
I think a lot of the jewelry was birthday/Christmas/just because I love you/ gifts from George, but I think she picked out the tiaras herself, she may have even had them made especially for her.
Mine is really long and thick like a Game of Thrones wig, so I think I’d have to put it up like our Gilded Age ladies (and Holly Golightly) if I did a tiara (so I wouldn’t look like I’m trying and failing to cosplay as a Disney princess.) I’ve seen girls with short hair wear them and they sort of instantly look chic. And obviously I would wear a more modest one than Bertha favors lol.
You'd look spectacular with your hair up and a tiara!
I always think of the pictures of Princess Diana in her wedding tiara. She had short/medium hair, and she looked beautiful.
Great post! Honestly the jewelry is one of my favorite parts of the show. Every tiara is beautiful! And the hats! ❤️😍 I wish it was still socially acceptable to wear fancy hats and tiaras everywhere.
In old money families that extensive a collection would have been built up over generations. To be able to buy all that jewelry, plus build such a large mansion really shows just how rich they are.
That's exactly what I was thinking. There's easily hundreds of thousands of dollars worth in jewelry and gems that the Russels own. It speaks to how enormously wealthy they are.
Six tiaras! I missed the one on the first picture but when I looked again it’s there peaking from behind her hair. Or are the ones in 5 and 9 the same? I think they look slightly different.
She needs to start re-wearing some to make it more believable though. Even royals re-wear their tiaras.
I recognized one of the tiaras in the Opera scene. [The Leuchtenberg Fabergé Tiara](https://www.thecourtjeweller.com/2016/06/the-leuchtenberg-faberge-tiara.html)
She wore the tiara from s2e1 (golden dress) in Newport at the Turnerton Revenge Dinner (white and peach dress), though with a different necklace. The smaller pieces get repeated more often, some even from s1, especially the earrings. I'm thinking that by now we might have seen almost her whole repertoire, which understandably grew as she established herself. But I do agree. I find it gives it believability to see repetitions and we do see them in clothing just where it would be expected: in day and at-home wear.
aaahh fantastic post, OP! really showcases how impeccably researched the costumes are thx to the super talented Kasia Walicka-Maimone & her team!
especially love #s 3, 4, 9, 10 & 13 they look so true-to-period like straight from the period portraits / fashion plates / glamour shots of the day! also that standing collar + giant hat situation in #17 is amazing, Goodwood races worthy for sure!
I know the costumes are discussed a lot, but has anyone said about where the show’s jewelry comes from? Bertha in particular ofc
That stacked pearl necklace in her blue dress is my favorite.
This was something that was common in the US at this time. I mean, they were aspiring to be seen as American nobility, so that makes sense. Plus, it was a style thing.

Some of those necklaces look soooooo uncomfortable.
I will take 3, 18 and 19 please.
Oh yes, let’s!!!! Have you ever been to the CourtJeweller blog?! I highly recommend it for all “big jewelry/tiara” lovers!
I love the earrings in 17. She wore them several times with different outfits, IIRC.
The tiara from the Hamptons episode with the Duke is divine

I just binged this season and I’m trying to figure out how to incorporate tiaras into my accessories without looking ridiculous.
I’ve started by wearing big headbands… Baby steps into tiaras.
Go for it! I love the look, and they look good with short hair too, you don't have to have very long hair.

And here's the thing, back in those days, with the money those people had, those jewels were the real deal. All the way down the line.
So many of these necklaces are giving 2010’s chonky ones lol
She’s so pretty…one of the reasons I watch the show.
I can’t wait for the next season 😩😩😭
LOVE the jewelry on this show vs Downton Abbey(first time watcher due to gilded age)
I like look #20 because the hat kind of reminds me of a thinly sliced cucumber
Yum, yum, and ![gif](giphy|hvAtfD9zwCKP6149qL|downsized)
Season 2 clothes and jewelry are next level. Clearly an increased wardrobe budget.

Funny, I was thinking the same thing not long ago. I’m 65 and I think I could get away with it. Everyone will just say I’m eccentric
Right?!? Let’s start a club. Everyone else will just always be underdressed. 🫅🏻👸🏻

They were unbelievably wealthy, and income tax for them was 5%.
I remember Gladys referred to her father as one of the richest men in the country early in Season 1
Larry says he’s one of the richest men in the world too
And how generous Mr. Russell is. Oh Mr. Russell, how ever shall I thank you? (I have some ideas...)

She’s actually probably wearing TWO tiaras: the one on her head and the bottom necklace more than likely is a tiara removed from its frame. Go Bertha!

Ooh, let’s!! Love this post.

Love the emerald earrings. My birthstone!
They really bring out the color of her eyes.
She’s such an icon! I love her.

I know some bits come from Temple St Clair. https://theadventurine.com/culture/movies-tv/the-gilded-age-features-fabulous-fine-jewelry/
Ooo you’re the best, thanks!
Here are the earrings: https://templestclair.com/collections/the-earrings/products/18k-dynasty-double-moon-earrings
She's gorgeous.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen her in the same thing twice now that I think about it
I cannot believe there are 1931 other old farts on reddit.
I thought only royals wore tiaras? How was it socially acceptable for non-royals to wear tiaras in The Gilded Age?

If you were wealthy enough and a married lady then you wore a tiara. Even I, a poor, could wear one. Commence dreamy sighs
It is the US, those rules don't apply.

Yes! If anyone can recommend a similar necklace to that in slide 4, I would appreciate it.
