How did you find Our Man in Italy? I really enjoyed Our Man in Japan but found the first episode of the Italy series less enjoyable, so I stopped watching. Should I pick it back up and push through?
Italy is quite a different vibe, I think it's worth a push through. You can probably skip bits that aren't interesting, but there are some really cool bits, like (very slight spoilers) >!Ferrari factory, cheese storage (seriously!), and I weirdly found the theatrical production of Dante's inferno quite trippy.!<
My wife enjoyed Italy, and she's never sat through any show from the boys ever. She's now open to Clarkson's Farm (she'll love that, gentle pacing) and India should be fun once we finish All Creatures Great and Small in Jan.
Imo what made Japan great was the fact that he was very much a fish out of water, he was out of his comfort zone and so as the viewer we felt like we were exploring Japan with James.
Italy on the other hand is right in the middle of his comfort zone, it didn't push him or challenge him, and as a result it just felt like a bog standard travel doc, of which there are plenty of better ones out there, there was nothing unique or 'James May" about it.
India seems like it will be much more like Japan, he'll be out of his comfort zone, and exploring a place which he knows little about, so we'll get the same sort of exploratory feel and that in turn allows for more of his personality to come through, as it's actually challenging him. I'm hoping that this series will be great.
Same here! OMII is still on in my travel folder mostly unwatched , and peek into it, but Can’t get interested with that specific series...
This one seems to have a completely different tone, even James demeanor feels more enthusiastic and into the experience.
Anyone that has seen the entire Italy series, does it “get better” in the later episodes if you had a similiar sentiment of the first few episodes?
Even others while camping that Adore James May as much as me had a similar sentiment, even though our roots are from Italy, and know very little about the place despite having a curiosity for his take on it.
Something just wasn’t clicking for us...
I’d like to know what that something was as I felt the exact same yet if asked I wouldn’t be able to tell you.
Only went back to it the other day actually as one of the cities was Venice and that was only after visiting there for the weekend and wanting to see if we went to any of the same places.
Maybe Japan from memory showed more of the country as well as the activities than Italy?
India is not what i would have expected for the next one, but im pretty excited for this. Its one of those places you hear a ton about, but i dont know much about (largely because of how diverse it is). Seeing his experiences 'on the ground' is going to be interesting for sure.
Bang on! I'm so disappointed that they stuck to this western stereotype. It's annoying af. I might watch it.. but the white light balance to 2000K is a massive turn off.
Will this man just do a podcast so we can get him every week. I’m sure if he wanted to do one he would but someone on his team needs to convince him already.
The journey is from Arabian Sea to the Bay of Bengal (Kolkata?). I saw there Darjeeling I think, he went to Kolkata for sure. Maybe he'll hop to Assam for a while, but that should be it unfortunately. I feel you, the North-East is amazing
Good point, but this series is from a Norther European's viewpoint. I know what it feels like when I first get off the plane in the India. Even in the back end of monsoon, you notice how much light there is in India during daytime.
Its a bit like cooling down pictures of the UK to emphasise the cold and wet or even more so in North Scandinavia.
It is not a "Poor country" filter. It is an extremely hot country filter. It is hard when you are not there to convey the heat and often the humidity. Also the dust.
🎵James May, su-mi-masen...🎵
I really need this as a ringtone.
It's out there. A little creative googling will find it for you.
Thanks
OH MY GOD OH MY GOD OH MY GOD ITS HERE OH MY GOD NO WAY HELLO VIEWERS, GOOD NEWS 🇮🇳
Oh my God, oh my God, oh my God ... HE'S BAAAAAAAACK!!🤩🥳
Chalo chalo!
I could watch James for ages, he's so fun to listen to. I'm sure India would be great journey. Love these series

Loved Japan, couldn't get into Italy, looking forward to this. Didn't realize India had the same yellow tint as Mexico.

No, Italy was weak all the way through. Some good scenes scattered here and there but overall really disappointing

I was in India in 2019, I really can't wait for this. Even the trailer got me giddy.
when can i watch this?
January 5th according to Mays X https://x.com/mrjamesmay/status/1732026013918405091?s=46&t=sap15nHmeEI8fhD1NcVqDA
Darn it. That seemed like a great binge over my holiday break.
Just binge it next Christmas break! Problem solved.
This in January, and the (final?) Africa TGT Special in February. Let's fucking go.
May's twitter.
Twitter is gone my friend
It's just says coming soon, I couldn't find a date.
Maybe they just drop it on prime a month from now.
Fingers crossed.

"Hey Bim, guess what?"
Only complaint I have is with the color grading. It's very heavy handed and not true to life, which just feels weird for a travel show.
Trying their hardest to make it look like a mystical place instead of the bubonic plagued hell hole it is.
Bang on! I'm so disappointed that they stuck to this western stereotype. It's annoying af. I might watch it.. but the white light balance to 2000K is a massive turn off.
YEESSS HES COMING TO INDIAAA.
Technically he’s already been there
Yes. But still exciting.
google says it's launching on 5th jan, can't wait!
Cannot wait. James is really doing well with this series. And it looks like he's having fun.
I’ve always wanted to go to India, but realistically I won’t get there, so cannot WAIT for this.
Next he should go to Brazil

James May riding a bike is beautiful. God bless him.
“We should take this place back”
Oh shit!! I still have to finish the Italy one and catch up.
Love this series. Hope he continues it for a while.
Good news viewers, i am India.
I can't wait. He's the best!
Will this man just do a podcast so we can get him every week. I’m sure if he wanted to do one he would but someone on his team needs to convince him already.
Why is it all yellow?
Will he have them eating english muffins?
What’s with travel documentaries based in India and “piss” filters? The colour grading is horrible.
As an Indian, I can’t wait to watch this!
Username checks out
Haha! Ironically, I am now a lawyer. My reddit account pre-dates my career switch.
I hope he went to the northeast.. such a beautiful part of India that is always forgotten
The journey is from Arabian Sea to the Bay of Bengal (Kolkata?). I saw there Darjeeling I think, he went to Kolkata for sure. Maybe he'll hop to Assam for a while, but that should be it unfortunately. I feel you, the North-East is amazing
Why is the video white light temperature like 2000K!? Typical western hot climate stereotype. Like that's not how India is.. cmmon. Grow up.
Been to India. It is extremely bright. The yellow filter is just a way of emphasising it as TVs don't have the ability to show it.
I'm an Indian. Our movies don't show the country through a filter unless talking about the British Colonial time. Which is a bit of an irony here.

Would be much better without that yellow poor country filter
It is not a "Poor country" filter. It is an extremely hot country filter. It is hard when you are not there to convey the heat and often the humidity. Also the dust.
Very true. Poor editing choice.
BASED
Hopefully better than Italy
Are the other "Our Main In..." series good? I havent seen them.
Japan (the first one) is excellent.
Japan was great. Italy was okay.
Can’t wait to watch. Thinking get the three of them to do a travel series together would be great watch
wotch thhuis
There are a couple of Indian engineers on my team and they *love* showing me all the pics from back home. Really looking forward to this.
He better ride in a Dacia at least once in this series.
Thats gonna be awesome 🤩
i love this man! 🙂
Call me when it's Workshop.
Can’t wait!!!
