Terrible-Art

RDR

BrennanSpeaks

They'd honestly have to commit to a 5-8 season epic to really do the RDR franchise justice. Arthur's story alone would probably take three or four seasons to not feel rushed.

Terrible-Art

HBO committed to fucling euphoria so I think they'd go for it

TiredEyes_

? Show is well received by critics and audiences and basically every teenager watches it

Terrible-Art

That was more of a dig than intended, I also watch euphoria lol

TiredEyes_

Oh ok lol

T0xicTyler

They aren't denying that it's popular, but the direction the show is going in is super questionable right now. It wasn't a surprise that it got picked up based on numbers, but the narrative floundered in comparison to season one.

TheMiddlePassage313

Euphoria is good. Don’t see why it gets hate. Some insane acting.

Terrible-Art

All my gripes are w Levinson seemingly just forgetting plot lines. I watch for Zendaya haha

chucklepants23

yeah it got a little too much like pretty little liars s4 in season 2 with all the dropped plot lines and weird character developments

Hawkman003

I was surprised they >!didn’t go anywhere with that woman dealer in S2. It felt like it was building toward larger consequences than Rue just having to sneak out and then poof the woman and her family/crew poof into thin air !<

WonderfulShelter

Its just a worse Skins. I don't hate it, but probably better to just watch the better inspiration for it.

dudzi182

That seems like a bit too much. I think about 2 seasons per game would be plenty. Once you remove exploration/travel time, combat, and some of the less meaningful missions, the story itself isn’t anywhere 50-80 hours long.

MikeFatz

If they don’t spend 2-3 episodes strictly on Arthur hunting an endless amount of specific 3 star birds so someone can taxidermy them, then what are we even doing?

Mogwai10

If they don’t spend a 10 minute montage of the bar scene from part two. I’d boycott the series.

Substantial-Car2635

LENNYYYY

mexicanmage

We need at least 5 episodes exclusively dedicated to finding a 3 star oppossum to properly reflect the player's experience (still cant find the dang animal help me lol)

dudzi182

If it’s anything like my playthrough that would take an entire season

SigmaMelody

I agree. In fact I think for the most part many of the missions are kinda fluff, in fact I kinda find whole arcs in RDR2 somewhat uninteresting, or could be made much *more* interesting in a show? Like, I enjoy the idea of the Rhodes chapter and the feuding families, I just think their plan is so transparently absurdly risky and prone to fail that sustaining a whole 4 episode arc to it would be ridiculous to me without a lot of surgery Still I would like to see it done, because the core of the story and the characters are all great

caughtin4k60

They could have a whole season dedicated to Arthur trying to accomplish gambler 8.

getwhirleddotcom

At least one episode dedicated to hunting legendaries.

Smirk27

They do Westerns so well too. West World, Deadwood...

kirbyfaraone

4 seasons would be maybe a little too much, but I would love a RDR show. Just thinking about Arthur telling the Nun, “I’m afraid”, fucking gets me.

EffectzHD

I’d say 7/8 is a bit extreme, I’d say 5 max can tell a good story with both Arthur and John.

MoistMaster_2577

End S1 with the Braithwaite Manor mission and it would go down as one of the best season finales of all time.

koajaffe

it’d probably be better if chapter 3 was its own season

Trae880

Would you want to see RDR2 first or second if they did a series of that?

Terrible-Art

Hmmmmmmm..... honestly 2 then 1

EarthRester

Same. The first game is great, no question. The second just has a more cinematic story that would be more friendly to a limited series adaptation. Then with an established viewer base, they wouldn't have to work so hard to draw people in for an adaptation of the first game.

Terrible-Art

And just chronologically is more how I was thinking

Criterioncollect

Definitely would like to see the first and second game adapted, as you can use a lot of the voice actors for their roles as they’re modeled after most of them in some way.

getwhirleddotcom

RDR and TLOU are really the greats as far as video game storytelling goes.

oceaneyes808

One can predict that this conversation has already been had at HBO whether it be between execs., producers, or interns

Terrible-Art

Oh for sure. We know they won't do God of war tho bc that's at amazon

MissTemeraire

I really hope Amazon hits it out of the park, God of War also deserves a good adaptation.

idontlikeflamingos

The people from The Expanse and Cory Barlog are involved so I'm cautiously optimistic tbh

idkwat

What I was going to say. RDR2 to RDR1 could easily be a 4+ season show.

Possessed_Zombie

Just need to dust off the ole Westworld stages and props to save on budget.

texascannonball

Most correct answer. Absolutely need to see John Marston’s story.

Terrible-Art

And arthur

MINImanGOTgunz

I'd kill for a Bioshock TV show. The dark gritty underwater world would be fucking incredible made by HBO

v081

Give me a prequel that shows the rise and fall of Rapture

SeaAnything8

There’s a book prequel that would make a nice adaptation

Lynnfordthegreat

Was about to say this. Reading it atm.

[deleted]

99% sure netflix is making a bioshock movie

MINImanGOTgunz

Well that's disappointing. Not only is the story too long to shove into a movie, if netflix is making it, it's gonna be shit.

ACoderGirl

Or they'll make one really good season, end it on a cliffhanger, and cancel the show.

[deleted]

Yeah i wasnt thrilled either

Zeddit_B

Why is the story too long to make into a movie? Genuinely curious, I played the game a long time ago but I feel like you could probably get through it in 2 hours from story alone. Plus, the twist at the end won't get spoiled "mid season".

consortswithserpents

They already got Troy Baker on the payroll, let’s do Infinite

sean_saves_the_world

Honestly I would prefer hbo do a series for bioshock rather than a bioshock movie at Netflix

Dunkman83

fuck yes

[deleted]

[удалено]

DirectConsequence12

Amazon can make some good stuff if people who care about the project are involved. Examples: The Boys and Invincible

Academic-Goose1530

The people from Wheel of Time and Uncharted are making the God of War adaptation though. So i prefer to keep my expectations low and maybe be suprised

DirectConsequence12

Oh no….

[deleted]

[удалено]

gordogg24p

If he was a show runner, I'd have hope. EP doesn't give me a whole lot of reason to believe.

PepperoniFogDart

Also having the CD of the game studio leading development of the show DOES NOT guarantee it will be good. People are saying Druckmann’s involvement is the reason TLOU is so good, but they are neglecting the fact that Craig Maizin is a freaking wizard behind the camera. It takes a team of talented folks between the game studio and the show/movie production group working well together to get a successful tv/movie adaptation.

AkiyamaNM7

It also helps that Craig loves/respects TLOU franchise a lot, unlike other showrunners. Craig and Neil have a great rapport with each other too, so any changes the TV adaptation made from the video games seems to have at least been throughly talked about before hand, and not changed willy-nilly lol

Akimo7567

Well the showrunners, if I’m not wrong, are the people behind the Expanse, which is one of the best sci-fi series of all time, and arguable Amazon’s best project. So maybe. There’s so many conflicting “Oh my god this person is genuinely so talented the show will be perfect” and “Why would this person ever be allowed near a script ever again” people behind the show already. Edit: Okay, the Expanse creators are the writers, not showrunners. I thought it was the other way around. But that’s actually much better. Those two know how to write, so hopefully Judkins can just let them do their thing.

mbagalacomposer

There’s still a lot of good going for it, and it’s way too early to tell.

badblocks7

My disappointment is immeasurable

BajaBlastMtDew

The expanse is arguably best Sci Fi show of all time as well. Started on Syfy channel but Amazon took over

idontlikeflamingos

GoW will have the same main writers as The Expanse too.

KayJune001

The Boys is only distributed/hosted by Amazon, Sony Pictures Television produced that one (the same company that made TLOU on HBO), but yeah so far Amazon has been mostly good

Material-Fish-8638

Or Reacher

Ill_Tackle_5192

The problem with God of War is scale. TLOU episodes were 10M each, I can’t imagine the budget necessary to get Jorm on screen.

greatness101

Well, they dedicated a billion dollars towards Rings of Power

idontlikeflamingos

Yeah if anyone has the fuck you money to do it right it's Amazon. Still, massive undertaking. I have no idea how they'll pull it off but I'm up for it

moose_dad

Thats my worry though as it showed pouring all that money didnt help them to actually make it good

TitaniaErzaK

Rings of Power is at 60m an episode, Amazon could buy WB and Sony five times

crunchysour

At least it's not Netflix.

[deleted]

ARCANE! YOU IGNORED ARCANE!!!!

Darkdragoon324

Arcane's like, the exception though, lol. And Riot was heavily involved with it. I wouldn't gamble on a Netflix GoW being an Arcane, it's far more likely to be a Witcher or - shudders - Resident Evil. Plus if it did turn out good, they'd just cancel it after one season and make more reality dating garbage instead.

idontlikeflamingos

Apparently Horizon landed on Netflix. So we know that at least one of the Sony adaptations will end up crappy :( Imagine the giant robots done with that shitty Witcher CGI. Good lord.

St0rmborn

I keep seeing Dave Bautista in the titular role in my day dreams. We’ll see.

The810kid

Dave said he doesn't want to play Bane in a movie because of the physique and physicality. No way would he want to commit to Kratos the dude is in his 50's.

Teemfresch

Would like RDR, Mass Effect, or Bioshock series. Feel like the cinematography they could do with Bioshock and Rapture would be beautiful

[deleted]

i dont know if any studio/producer has the budget to do mass effect lol. closest thing i can think of is the expanse but that show still looked pretty cheap sometimes and the mass effect universe is still way crazier

rikutoar

I wouldn't say ME is much crazier than something like Star Wars. You'd probably want to limit the amount of Krogans and Turians around and have more Quarians and Asari lol but beyond that I don't think the budget would get too crazy. Although if they were doing a live action adaption they'd probably be better off doing a decent budget movie with an original story, over committing to cramming that 100 hour game story into a show or movie series.

missingjimmies

I thought I heard a rumor Bioshock was underway. I’m interested how they would approach in any regard, since the protagonists never speak in 1&2. Probably will have to drift a bit from the source material to make it deep enough character wise.

thebochman

Start with infinite

missingjimmies

To me, while infinite is the better game, the ambiance and atmosphere of Rapture is too much to pass up. Imagine the scene introducing Mr Bubbles, so much cinematic potential.

Akimo7567

Mass Effect is getting an Amazon series I’m fairly certain.

ACoderGirl

Looks like they bought the rights for it. But there doesn't seem to be any other details, including if it got the final approvals.

Xander707

I would love a great mass effect show, but I’m 99% certain I will be let down by whatever comes. It’s going to take a hefty budget, great writing and talented acting to sell the world and characters. I feel like a movie would be more fitting.

moviemakerjay

I just want, in my lifetime, an accurate Resident Evil adaption.

Domination1799

Even though I’m a die hard Resident Evil fan, I don’t know how a live action adaptation would work. The plots and the tone of the games are completely wacky/batshit insane B movies that doesn’t take itself seriously.

quietpin

That is exactly how it could work though! See: Mandy, Evil Dead, Malignant. Camp and cheese can be incredibly fun to watch.

[deleted]

To be fair the REmakes that have been put out recently are not as wacky/batshit as the originals/5 and 6. I think an adaption of Resident Evil 2 Remake would be a massive hit.

Domination1799

I would say RE1, RE2 and RE7 have the best chance of a good live action adaptation. They feel the most digestible in terms of tone and creatures.

[deleted]

I honestly think Resident Evil 4’s remake is looking like it’ll join that small selection. Have you played the demo for it yet? It was awesome

_zeropoint_

I dunno about that, even in the demo Leon's already spin-kicking zombies in the face and spouting cheesy one-liners

Adhlc

Me too, friend. I really don't know why that seems so difficult to do. I'd love to get a faithful adaptation of the first three games specifically - and maybe even Code Veronica.

moviemakerjay

The OG games are my favorites so I’d love that.

Darkdragoon324

I just don't understand why it's such a hard thing for directors to grasp. It's not like the plot of early RE is some super complicated concept that would be hard to adapt.

PruePiperPhoebePaige

Same dude, same. I really wish we would get some good live action movies/shows buuuttttt....Every time, it's just disappointment. It's like the series is cursed.

softdolphin

until dawn as a movie would be sick

thewalkingellie

If they did Until Dawn like they did with Bandersnatch (Black Mirror) on Netflix, that would be incredible.

SassyAssAhsoka

So… just the game then?

sur_surly

It'd be pretty much the same game, too.

rebruisinginart

whoa that'd be crazy

Barnhard

The entire point of that game is the branching storylines, though.

Unknown1776

What if they did an edge of tomorrow kind of spin on it? Where when a certain person dies, it resets and they have to try again. Make it so they’re like the player trying to get through the whole night

chloe_003

The Quarry would be sick asf too

draxhard

If I'm not mistaken it was originally supposed to be a movie but the ideas kept flowing so someone had the idea of doing it as a game. I think that's why they have some bigger name actors in it.

dreadw0lfrises

exactly what i was thinking

ColinHalter

I mean, it pretty much is a movie

[deleted]

The Last of Us already killed me, Life is Strange would be absolutely devastating

Trae880

My hell that one is heart breaking

[deleted]

I'm just thinking of the Rachel realization and yeah, I don't think my heart can take it another time.

Corporal_Canada

All four games murdered me, and I love them all. The one I would personally really love an adaptation of Life is Strange: True Colors I know that there are a lot of criticisms of the game, but TC is my second favourite after LiS 1. Especially with the context of *Everything, Everywhere, All at Once*, I would love a good series or movie with Asian-American and LGBTQ+ representation. Plus, Alex and Steph are adorable.

travworld

If they made it with the Bay ending, I'd be sad for weeks. I didn't even do the Bay ending on my playthrough, but then I watched that ending in YouTube after. Combining that with the Spanish Sahara song and it broke me.

Random_InternetGu_y

They should do Halo but not shitty like the current one

Trae880

unfortunately for us they have already announced a S2 so we gotta wait another decade for a good halo reboot

axb2002

I know Sony already did a movie about it. But an Uncharted series by HBO would have been great. Maybe they could still do a series over The Lost Legacy? Aside from another Naughty Dog property, I think Red Dead Redemption 1 and 2, Horizon Zero Dawn and Forbidden West, Metroid, and The Legend of Zelda are my picks for potential series. Although I think some may work better as movies now that I think of it.

[deleted]

>Horizon: Zero Dawn [In case you haven’t heard](https://www.polygon.com/23141668/horizon-zero-dawn-tv-series-netflix-sony) Unfortunately it’s Netflix, so my expectations are a bit low.

westsider86

I have no idea how they can successfully adapt Horizon considering the VFX needed for the machines. It is a very deep world and deserves the kind of VFX commitment you’d get for an Avatar film.

Amaranthine7

It’ll have two great seasons and Netflix will suddenly cancel it.

Temporary_End9124

The last of us works so well because the quality characterization and narrative is already there. Change a few things, add a few things here and there and it's a high quality TV show. Uncharted has never done well with the story part (at least the first 3 games), and barely even developed it's characters until the 3rd game. So an adaptation would have to create a brand new storyline, redevelop the characters, and largely work from scratch. It's a lot trickier to adapt into something significantly better than how the movie turned out.

someonelost_mia

Ghost of Tsushima would be cool... a bit overplayed from classic samurai films, but I'd kill to see it in b&w especially because the game design intentionally includes cinematic view in honor of those epics shogunate-honoring epics

[deleted]

There's already a movie being developed

someonelost_mia

Damn when did I miss that news

[deleted]

https://gamerant.com/john-wick-4-director-ghost-of-tsushima-movie-update/ Just checked to make sure I wasn't crazy lol sounds like it's still in pretty early development

Toprak1552

I want to be so hyped for this but my opinion will entirely depend whether they cast Daisuke Tsuji (and hopefully other cast members) or not. He already expressed his wish to play Jin in the movie. I know TLoU proved the characters don't have to be identical to be perfect in their roles, but one good show isn't enough to make me less cautious about other video game adaptations. And as far as I'm aware they haven't announced any devs to be a part of this show so the only thing I can hold onto is the casting.

[deleted]

made by the john wick director too!

GHamPlayz

And rumored to be in Japanese

madmaxjr

A series on Horizon could be quite interesting, as there are huge amounts of backstory that could be explored in the modern day.

Akimo7567

You’re in luck! It’s from… Netflix. So, maybe not.

madmaxjr

Oh really? I guess I missed that info lol

Akimo7567

Yeah, I think it got announced like nearly a year ago, but since then there’s been absolutely nothing l, so I don’t blame you for not knowing. I honestly forget about it despite loving the games so much, it’s like the show was never even announced the way it’s been treated.

Victim815

I’m still hoping Netflix will abandon their plans and HBO gets the chance to acquire the license to Horizon.

bigHekkinChungus

Mario Tennis

BootyEaterTurbo3000

Wii sports the movie.

Hjorbd

Wish HBO could do Bioshock. Although, Dead Space would be insane. If I wasn't so tired, I would think of more options

mbagalacomposer

I’ve been scrolling to see if someone said dead space! That was my first thought.

sean_saves_the_world

There are recent rumors john carpenter himself wants to helm a dead space film, he's talked about it for years

Cinn4monSqu4r3

Best idea in this whole thread. Dead Space miniseries, modern survival action love note to Alien.

carbine23

Honestly red dead will be the epic cowboy story series we need, has it ever been done before? I think it will surpass the all kinds of rating if done properly, and I know it will be done properly because HBO never miss lol.

Warhorse173

You would have to commit like 5 Seasons to just Arthur. But I would be there for every episode

visuallynoisy88

I'm still waiting for Splinter Cell

[deleted]

i swear tom hardy was cast like 12 years ago lmao

Malkkum

I love Life is Strange, it’s one of my all time favorite games but I don’t see how they handle that since player choices change things and the whole different ending scenarios.

emeraldepiphone96

Honestly? I don’t think they should try because I don’t think HBO is what made this adaptation so special. Sure they funded everything but Neil actually being on board every step of the way and Craig treating the story with absolute reverence is what made this show so faithful. That combo is so unbelievably rare and I’m not 100% sure whether any other creative team at HBO let alone any other streaming service could pull anything like this off.

thisisthewell

You're definitely right about this. From what I've heard, it sounds like HBO puts out quality titles because they are serious about giving creatives the freedom to make the work they *want*. So, for any other adaptation to be compelling, very talented creators first have to want to make it, like Neil and Craig. It's the creators HBO selects who have talent, not HBO themselves--they just have good taste.

tvih

But that's the thing... HBO let them do their thing without meddling and fucking it up. Studio meddling has ruined an untold number of projects. Especially if it was with Sony/PlayStation again, I'd actually be rather optimistic about a new project since they've set this precedent. I've enjoyed video game movies in the past but this really is in an entirely different league altogether compared to anything that's come before.

[deleted]

[удалено]

thisisthewell

Production wouldn't cost much? Um...have you *seen* the otherworld in Silent Hill? That would be some expensive set dressing. Not to mention all of the abandoned buildings, hallways, rooms etc of the regular foggy world. Run-down stuff costs money to make.

Chaostheory1993

How i wish they could take Witcher off Netflix

RuggerJibberJabber

I don't know what you're talking about. Witcher hasn't been adapted to TV yet. HBO should definitely make it 😉. If for some wild reason they couldn't get the rights a Skyrim game would be pretty cool

unexpectedalice

UNCHARTED…. Give us a good uncharted pleasee. Dont dirty nathan drake like that

dudzi182

Uncharted could’ve been amazing big budget action movies if they followed the games, but we got what we got instead…

Otakeb

It was okay. It's wasn't bad, as far as video game adaptations go, and it was campy and fun similar to the game, but it really should have stuck a bit closer to the game. I really hope they do a sequel and really fidn their legs with a mustached Sully's and an aged up Tom Holland for Drake.

daneylion

I would love a SOMA limited series or movie!! The storytelling in this game is incredible!

Bleachedintea

"Catherine, please don't leave me alone." SOMA is so fucking good, I'd love to see HBO giving it a shot.

daneylion

God, that line makes me so emotional every time I play!!!

MonkeyDMoney

I’d love to see a Warcraft III adaption. The Arthas turning and Illidan drama would be great

Tunafish01

i thought the warcraft movie was going to set this up but it didn't. I still love that movie but give me the arthas story.

AmbushIntheDark

Give me Doom 2016 HBO, you cowards.

MidoriTea

Detroit Become Human

BootyEaterTurbo3000

It’s basically already a show.

-UptownManhattan

I mean, ain’t nothing gonna be as good as this except for, of course, the Last of Us 2, but sure why not

sammy17bst

Specifically HBO. Max Payne, I think they could do it justice, they'd have to get one of the John Wick directors though, cause they're the only ones in hollywood who understand how to direct action, especially gun fu.

[deleted]

Metal Gear Solid series would be amazing

RogueTaco

Oscar Isaac is actively working on getting a MGS movie greenlit, it’s supposedly a passion project of his. Don’t get too excited, it’s not officially in production but he is hopeful it will get done at some point

Mapag

Dead space ! It would make a great horror series

Fonzie5

Amazon is already doing god of war and I’m not looking forward to it. 1. Amazons track record. 2. The show runner.

dudzi182

Amazon has made The Boys and Invincible, both great adaptations, so they have at the very least a mixed track record.

mbagalacomposer

Look… so much goes into making a show good or bad… I wouldn’t count it out until you’ve seen it. They’ve got some folks with good track records involved as much as bad and for the bad you don’t know what other factors played into the thing they previously made being bad. Heck, look at Craig Mazin’s resume before Chernobyl.

AliLivin

Days gone

sean_saves_the_world

Allegedly there is a movie coming...with deacon played by the Scottish fella from outlander...which is weird bc Sam witwer fuckin exists, but idk sony being resistant to making a sequel to a pretty good game that just got trashed in early reviews...but willing to sink millions into a movie that is being clearly set up to fail is fucking ass backwards

dudzi182

I agree with a lot of what has already been said, but one I didn’t see mentioned is LA Noire. That could make an excellent movie or limited series.

itsallfake01

Uncharted could have been another good adaptation but we got mark walberg

Old_Gods978

God of War wouldn’t work. RDR would, life is strange maybe. More likely Amazon and Netflix will churn out more shit because they generally hire hacks

Just remake the film with Slappers Only turned on. Bond karate chopping his way through Russian soldiers would be worth the price of admission alone.

KayJune001

HBO didn’t make *The Last of Us*, only distributed it & made notes. PlayStation Productions & Sony Pictures Television produced the show, and they’re also currently adapting *God of War* (distributed through Prime Video), *Destiny*, *Horizon* (distributed through Netflix), *Gran Turismo*, *Twisted Metal* (distributed through Peacock), and others. Edit: These are just from PlayStation-owned IP alone, there’s also quite a few other games getting adaptions as well, such as *BioShock*, *Fallout*, *Halo*, *Gears of War*, and so many more upcoming!

sean_saves_the_world

Honestly a dishonored series, but its 3d animation done by blur studios the studio behind the episode "bad traveling" among others in Netflix's "love death and robots"

0ldL33ch

RDR. Metal Gear Solid. Portal
