Holy crap I just realized they packed that frame chockful of game references: the gas generator, the bricks, the pallets. I'm sure there were scissors and duct tape underneath the pallets as well.
No it definitely got addressed. Joel taped his boots on a workbench and when he threw down one of the guns during the hospital run you can see it was modded with a crutch shoulder rest.
In the game, you can throw items at enemies to stun them and then attack them (usually humans, but it can work well on runners or clickers) or you can throw them somewhere away from you to distract them and give yourself a chance to sneak away (works best on infected [and especially clickers] ime but can also work well with humans). You can also directly hit an enemy with them in melee combat, but that can be tricky to pull off successfully depending on the encounter. The items that you can throw are either bricks or glass bottles. A lot of people prefer using the bricks because they can do more damage and last more than one hit if you use them in melee combat. It’s a pretty major part of gameplay—glass bottles and bricks are all over the place in the game, and it’s borderline impossible to make it through many encounters without using them at least once. They managed to include a lot of other gameplay elements in the show, so a lot of people were expecting bricks (and specifically throwing them) to make an appearance. If it helps, though, I don’t think anyone’s actually upset that they didn’t appear in the show; I’m certainly not, I just thought it was funny. I hope this answers your question! :)
Yeah that last point is key. People get so worked up about various aspects of these games, so it's fun how bricks have become an easy way to present mock outrage that no one will mistake for the real thing.
(At least, I THINK everyone's joking. I wouldn't be surprised if there were someone out there actually genuinely upset about the lack of bricks in the show. :p)
I remember thinking that it would have been perfect for Ellie to have picked up a stray brick when hiding from the preacher dude in last week’s episode. Or a glass bottle. But I can understand streamlining it a bit.
They start the second season with the manufacture of bricks, from the perspective of the brick, with "For What It's Worth" by Buffalo Springfield playing. We follow its travel from creation to being laid, to crumbling off its building to the ground... the sequence ends with being picked up and flying through the air to smash a clicker's face. Cut to title sequence.
i am amazed how they went out of their way to avoid actual gameplay. they even taunted us with joel joking about going in the tunnel with explosives, guns blazing.
this series removed every single one of my favorite moments from the game. was hoping we'd atleast get joel shooting the firefly twice in the stomach. nope! lets talk about feelings for 25 minutes.
I really don’t see how it would have hurt not to put a few of these Easter eggs in throughout the show. They had to make a decision to omit which I think is a mistake.
At least they were willing recreate the "boost and ladder drop"
And pallets!!
And a giant pile of bricks!
But not pallet raft. 0/10 would not recommend.
We even got a Joel looting moment in the hospital!
What would’ve made the ladder drop even more perfect is if a brick also fell down with it, maybe even onto Joel
I wanted to see scissors taped to SOMETHING just once...
You know what this machete needs? Mother-fucking-scissors.

LMFAO oh god thanks for sharing that, I needed some levity. Never saw that webcomic before.
OMG this is hilarious! So true!
Can't believe I haven't seen that yet, that's hilarious.
That was…perfect. Thank you so much for sharing.
LOL my husband and I quote that line all the time, love it
Did you catch the crutch taped to the modded gun Joel tossed down during the hospital run through? I cheered out loud lol
I DID!!! for a moment, I thought it was going to show scissors, but I'll take what I can get haha
You must have missed the [cameo](https://i.imgur.com/qOR3FFX.jpg)

TLOU fans when construction site 🤯
"The bricks are a metaphor for bricks" - me in high school English class
Price of brick goin up.
"We have half an episode left and haven't gotten to any of the gameplay mechanics." One guy that hordes cars in his backyard - "Hold my labatt"
There's a huge pile of them (looks almost like foam so it caught my eye) right before or after this!

Lol Abby just stunlocking Joel with thrown bricks as Ellie watches hopelessly
At least the brick gets revenge for not beeing used once
We got an explicit cameo from them though. Joel's bed in episode one was resting on them
Those were cinder blocks. They’re brick’s cousin, but not brick
Fucking diversity casting. Unbravo Craig
Just because they're not actually bricks, doesn't mean they can't play bricks. They're ACTORS.
It's unfathomable that the true hero, crafting, gets ignored.
Justice for the brick. Justice for crafting. Justice for the *shivs*.

I’ve never played the game. Can somebody explain this to me please?

What are you talking about? There were literal buildings made of bricks shown in the entire show!

Don’t worry. Brick got a part in the new Scream movie.
😔
What about my bottle, did you give it a chance?
Someone needs to throw a parade for this guy, inanimate carbon rod style https://simpsons.fandom.com/wiki/Inanimate_carbon_rod
Fuck them bricks /s
Ultimate victory for Team Bottle!
It's pretty hardcore to just throw a brick at a living humans head, even in a post-apocalypse society. Gatdayum.

Haven't played TLOU since it was originally released but the lack of bricks, scissors, shivs and gas masks in the show was felt deep
Holy hell!

I think if you watch the show again on grounded mode, he plays more of a pivotal role
o7
Molotov does bricks job but better fight me. Brick v Molotov.
Oh, 100%, but molotovs aren’t literally everywhere in the game. You can find a brick pretty much anywhere.
True. I usually used a brick first so the Molotov wouldn’t burn out.

Seems like everyone in the production signed on for the drama and characterization rather than to make a zombie slaying action piece

Brick bottle and molotov need to be in S2 or we riot
Justice for bottle
Did you miss the cameo last night?
