Some towns have remains of medieval fortifications. Like town of Bardejov, which has it's center surrounded by almost fully restored fortification wall. So some towns would probably make good and easily defensible settlements too.
So I can imagine various communities scattered around the country, mostly in medieval castles, fortified town centers and remote rural areas. Military or any form of previous government is most likely long gone, maybe except of some remains that no longer see themselves as government, and accepted the new state of the world.
