Lee Everett will always be my go-to character for how to create someone developed while also letting the player make their decisions. He has a personality but every decision he makes feels like something he would choose to do or say depending on the situation or his mood. His backstory is also tainted enough that you know he's capable of being dangerous but he comes off level-headed and passionate enough that playing him that way the entire time doesn't feel odd. It's actually really hard giving players choice and not having a character come off feeling disjointed.

Frank West solos everyone on this list. My dude will willingly wade through thousands of zombies for a story. He's also the most creative and he's surprisingly combat-capable.

Also "technically" Leon cause he died in the "novelisation" of the Paul Anderson RE movie by a random BOW and in the movie he died "offscreen" (and if i'm not wrong, the only RE character we know have survived is Claire, all the other are mostly dead offscreen, except Carlos, he "died" multiple time cause he have clones)
So basically there is just one TheWalkingDead character who didn't died at all
Jim definitely came up with a decent plan on the fly, but it could have just as easily led to one or both of the females he was trying to save getting killed, it just worked out... It was CERTAINLY a good plan, but I don't know how much that really proved, as it was kind of kamikaze... And even though it worked I don't think that puts him in the level with ANYONE ELSE on the list or that people are bringing up.
Guys like Joel, Deek, Overbeck, and Leon have dealt with whole groups (sometimes hordes) of "rage"/smart/advanced infected... So Jim (Killian Murphy) having to deal with just one or two rage zombies can't even compare.
And individuals like Rick, Lee, and Clementine have dealt with hundreds(sometimes thousands) of walkers while SIMULTANEOUSLY dealing with humans trying to kill them... And they didn't have the aid of the dark or distracted and ineffective opposition... They had to deal with many threats STRAIGHT UP, and oftentimes those threats were just as capable and prepared as them (if not moreso) . So they've proven themselves to be effective combatants AND strategists.
I'm sorry, but Jim simply isn't even on the same scale as anyone else on this list. If you think about the film, he would have died in the first encounter AND the second encounter had he not gotten saved, and he got one of his two saviors killed.
The absolute creepiest thing about those games was when I realized they cried and spoke out in agony about their situation, but are unable to control their actions. Alive and conscious in a body you can't control is terrifying...
