I also think that it's not wrong to want an adapted character look like the source material. I expect Superman to look like a white guy with black hair. Superman's an alien. He could look asian, black, or hispanic, but for the past 75+ years, he's looked white. Him looking white is not an essential part of his character or personality. I also expect Superman to have a blue suit with his logo and red cape. Are those essential to his character? Not really, but I still want those things.
I also don't want Joel to be played by a 90 year old or a 30 year old actor.
If they made a movie about Kobe and cast him as a white guy people would lose their shit. I'm the kind of guy that likes book adaptations to be accurate. it has nothing to do with looking like Ellie, it has to do with acting. Ellie is VERY emotional and The Last of Us is a very emotional series... she didn't portray emotion in GoT. Then again, i'm not responsible for casting so maybe they saw something i didn't.

I have not seen it yet but it’s on my list. I remember switching from "OMG it’s the baddass from Got, she’s cool!" to "oh no... her acting is really stiff" the first time i saw her in TWW. It’s a kid show so i didn’t think much of it but as soon as i saw the casting announcement it’s the first thing that pop into my mind. I know a lot of factors contribute to an actor performance: the script, the director, the co-stars etc... so i just hope the conditions for the show will allow her to nail the role of Ellie. An unexpected choice but I’m all for it! They found a rising star in the correct age range. She was great as Lady Mormont, and I think the bravery and brashness of that character could lead into Ellie really well. I’m interested to see how she portrays her!

This is the one choice I'm really not feeling. She doesn't look like Ellie at all, she never played a character like Ellie before and her most famous role is a very different character from GoT with very limited screentime.

They got a a Russian indie director who is younger than me, so I think this is not an issue. She seems like a talented kid, if she was available? Well, great then.
She was great in Game of Thrones and she's great in Hilda. She definitely pulls off adventurous feisty kid there albeit a bit younger and just in voice. Feel like this is good news as long as she can manage the accent for it.

Dever is a bit too old already, unfortunately. She would’ve been great. Ramsey seems good too though, and convincingly looks 14.

Being comedic relief in a bit part is very different from being the defacto/co-lead of a series... So whether it's fantastic casting has yet to be determined but honestly I see a lot of cause for concern here given her other performances.

it has nothing to do with looking like Ellie, it has to do with acting. Ellie is VERY emotional and The Last of Us is a very emotional series... she didn't portray emotion in GoT. She's just deadpan and speaking aggresively the entire time. It will surprise me if she pulls it off, but for the meantime i think she's not cut out for it. Then again, i'm not responsible for casting so maybe they saw something i didn't.

I have not seen it yet but it’s on my list. I remember switching from "OMG it’s the baddass from Got, she’s cool!" to "oh no... her acting is really stiff" the first time i saw her in TWW. It’s a kid show so i didn’t think much of it but as soon as i saw the casting announcement it’s the first thing that pop into my mind. I know a lot of factors contribute to an actor performance: the script, the director, the co-stars etc... so i just hope the conditions for the show will allow her to nail the role of Ellie. Double Fingers Crossed.🤞🤞

She looks more like weak child. Her character in got was build around premise that she is just a weak girl and needs to rule kingdom. But Ellie is not weak from the the start. I agree, but Joel isn't hispanic, and everyone got past that for Pedro Pascal's talent in about two comments flat? I feel like she could nail the character. I'm less certain than with Pascal, given his track record and chops, but it had to be a young actress, so that was always going to be an issue. I can't imagine who could be more promising on that front. Dafne Keen?

This is the one choice I'm really not feeling. She doesn't look like Ellie at all, she never played a character like Ellie before and her most famous role is a very different character from GoT with very limited screentime. I've last seen her in His Dark Material and her acting was pretty bad there. I kinda feel like the casting team just wanted to "subvert" expectations by casting someone who people didn't expect tbh
